“the gardens have gone downhill”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

The botanical gardens used to be a lovely place to visit, you could spend the day there. Now visitors are put on a conveyor belt you are in and out within half an hour unless you bathe. The botanical gardens used to go up as far as the old mill, and there was a lawn on which you could picnic. I’m guessing that they are probably going to use that land for some other money making scheme, but they have not reduced the price at the door. If you are really in to plants you could go. If you were looking for a day out with the children, don’t bother you could spend the same money and entertain them for more than half an hour. I took my niece and nephew there for the 1st time and was so disappointed for them, not knowing how it had changed before arriving. It’s really not value for money.

“Nice garden”
Reviewed August 24, 2013

This garden is very nice and easily accessible from the Soufriere city center (just take the Church St. heading East).

The entrance fee is $EC 15 (approx. $6 USD) per person and the visit lasts about 30min.

The garden is very well maintained and you will be able to see a lot of birds and other curiosities. You do not really need a guided tour, the garden is not really big and there are a lot of signs everywhere so you will not get lost.

You can pay an extra fee to go to the mineral baths, but you would rather go to the mud baths of the Sulfur Springs.

The sad part is that you cannot go under the Diamond Waterfalls, the official reason being "Some rocks are falling sometimes".

“Lush Gardens”
Reviewed August 22, 2013

The gardens are part of what used to be a private estate. There are volunteers there to lead tours and explain the various plants you see. Make sure to bring a cash tip as these guides/volunteers are not paid by the gardens. Our guide, SImon, was very friendly and knowledgeable and happy to take group shots of us at various points in the tour. After taking the tour in the gardens I was able to identify most of the plants around our resort.

The gardens themselves are very lush and pretty. Lots of green and flowers, along with bridges and arches. Everywhere you look is a photo op. The gardens lead up to a small waterfall, Diamond Falls. It's very pretty but not overwhelming as a waterfall in it's own regard - more picturesque than anything. You cannot swim in the falls.

There are natural hot springs you can bathe in. They are built up to look like a series of man-made hot tubs rather than a natural spring. We did not participate in the bathing.

Worth a visit if you're in the area and interested in St. Lucian plant life.

“Well worth the time”
Reviewed August 19, 2013

This is a short distance out of Soufriere. Take the street on the south side of the church, and look for signs. This is a nice walking tour of a natural feeling botanical garden. There are also mineral baths (with additional cost) and a waterfall at the top of the walk. It was a good value in my opinion. Plan on about an hour. Local guides will try to talk you into using them. They are not necessary and there appears to be a big variation in how usefull they are- some are worthless in that they just hustle you through as fast as possible to move on to the next group.
I'll try to

“Ask for the private mineral bath!”
Reviewed August 17, 2013

It's well worth it ... we spent more than 30 minutes in our own private tub (rather than with a bunch of strangers) and emerged feeling refreshed and renewed!
