We spent the last three days of our holiday here after spending 5 days on the beach at the Rendezvous. I wanted to come here as I love there chocolates back home. We were not disappointed. We had a standard lodge which was very spacious and had some nice finishing touches. The rainforest shower was just amazing and the best thing about the room. The only downside was no air con which you did need early evening and night as room was rather hot. Saying that I had no trouble sleeping after I got used to the rainforest noises and didn't get bitten once..
We went on a package which I would definitely recommend as the food and drink was expensive and it was nice not to have to worry about it. The food was amazing and plentiful. The main trouble was saving enough room for the chocolate dessert. The staff were young but helpful. They did seem to have trouble remembering that we were on a package and tried to charge us for a taxi back to airport which was included in price. Soft drinks are included in the package and not part of the $50 a day drinks allowance. A glass of house wine was $10 and a cocktail $14 so your allowance didn't go far.
The bean to bar experience was excellent and I feel as if I know everything about making chocolate. I look forward to coming back in a few years time to visit my cocoa tree I grafted. Its a shame their was no boxes of chocolates to buy to bring home as presents.
The pool area was small but had stunning views and there was never more than a few couples there so no trouble finding a sunbed.
There was nothing to do in the evening apart from eating your meal. The seats at the bar were not particularly comfortable so didn't encourage you to stay after your meal.
This hotel was a fantastic experience. The travel agent advised me to turn holiday into two centre I was glad I took her advice. It was a complete contrast to the beach hotel and I felt I got the best of both worlds.

Glad you enjoyed, having got to know us through our chocolates back in Great Britain. A twin centre holiday is a good idea as Saint Lucia has differet experiences to offer.

We primarily selected Hotel Chocolat for our few days stay in the souther part of St Lucia because of the unique chocolate scheme of the resort. While we loved the cocoa plantation tour and the chocolate making experience (I highly recommend them to anyone) neither the hotel, nor the restaurant were as I expected them and they both should come with a little warning signal to anyone who intends to try them. While the hotel is set in a beautiful plantation environment with lush vegetation I found the buildings architecturally a little "cheap", a little industrial in some parts. The rooms themselves are simple timber structures on concrete posts. When we arrived into our room I was wondering why eye masks and ear plugs were provided. However, it became obvious in the evening that you would need them both. Staying in Hotel Chocolat rooms are like staying in tents: the large front section of the room is not glazed, which helps ventilation but but does not keep the bugs and nose out either plus due to the lack of curtains the room gets all the light in the early morning. For those who love the open-air environment, the evening noise of the rainforest (frogs and bugs) and do not mind the lack of privacy this place is well recommended. But people who would prefer more comfort and privacy might want to consider one of the few very good resorts in the neighbourhood and take the plantation and chocolate tours as guests.

We certainly have a distinctive personality at Boucan, you are right. Our design ethos and philosophy is to be elemental, plantation chic. We strive to create an experience which is very different to what you can have at home.

If you are looking for a wonderfully intimate and truly luxurious place to stay you have found it! We stayed for 9 nights and loved every minute of it. Here is a breakdown of the best bits:

Accommodation: we stayed in a standard lodge and thought it was absolutely beautiful. The attention to detail was remarkable. We had an iPod docking station, Prosecco and rum punch in our room on arrival, water, nuts, cookies and chocolates replenished daily, there was insect repellent to keep the bugs at bay, gorgeous ren products, there was even a mobile phone that guests could take out with them in case they needed to call the hotel. The bathroom was in a league of its own with the most amazing shower I have ever experienced! His and hers sinks, big fluffy towels for the beach, shower and pool, I could go on! Everything had been thought about so carefully and we loved the 'in-door-out-door- architecture. The room doesn't have a TV which I think is a stroke of utter genius. Why have one when there is so much beauty all around you? My only criticism of the room (and given other reviews, this could be unique to the lodge we stayed in) was that whilst we fully support and admire the environmental ethics that the hotel is trying to promote, our room really did need aircon. Most nights we were uncomfortably hot.

Restaurant: I have written about this separately but in short WOW. We were not on a dining package but ended up eating there every night (why go elsewhere when you have one of the best places to eat in the island on your door step!!) it really is an amazing experience eating at this restaurant. GO!

Breakfast: is included in the room rate and is wonderful. Fresh fruit daily sourced from the grounds, with daily juices and smoothies- a real treat.

Bar: we really enjoyed the cocktails here (watermelon martini with the watermelon sourced from the grounds). However, we thought the wine list was really limited. We love a good glass of red and there was nothing for us unless we were willing to shell out hundreds of dollars (which we weren't). The alternatives were poor. I would also have liked to have seen a separate, more comfortable bar lounging area (perhaps the unused decking area by the pool). The bar area is situated in the restaurant, the seats are uncomfortable and it's really just a stop off point before you eat dinner. There were some nights we would happily have had a few drinks in the bar after dinner but there was no such place.

Pool: we enjoyed quite a few afternoons by the infinity pool with a view of petit piton. The experience is something we will never forget! Wow! The pictures on the website don't do it justice. It is small, but given that there are only 14 lodges, it was perfectly formed and we never had to fight other guests for loungers. This is architecture at its best. We would have liked to have seen a separate (cheaper) pool menu available.. Every time we wanted a quick snack by the pool we felt like we had to have a sit down meal! Again free water was available by the pool- some days it was offered, others it wasn't, it was appreciated on the days it was offered and you could always ask on the days it wasn't. We would have also liked to have seen more tables with shade available at lunch. There is only one by the pool or you have to go to the restaurant upstairs.

Location: hotel chocolat was a fantastic base for our holiday to st lucia. Soufriere is by far the best area to stay in (over Rodney bay. Marigot bay is also nice) and whilst the hotel isn't in walking distance to any bars or restaurants we didn't feel trapped. The hotel is a paradise in paradise. There are 100s of acres of grounds to go walking in and we particularly enjoyed the big nature view walk and the old French road. Well worth it!!

Tours: one of the best things about the hotel was the tours that they have available. They really are the best of what st lucia has to offer. There was nothing we wished they had included and there were a number if things on offer that we had not considered. We did the three boat trips, underwater explorer, sunset cruise and west coast raiding party and loved all three of them. We were on our own each time which was really special. We felt like celebrities having this amazing boat all to ourselves on those three occasions!! And the cost was really really reasonable! The tours come highly recommended. A real treat and a great way to spend the day. We also did the bean to bar chocolate making experience which was fantastic. Cuthbert's enthusiasm was contagious and he is a true asset to the team! There is also a free daily shuttle to the beautiful sugar beach which is fantastic!

Service: on the whole the service was fantastic- prompt and professional (even when we had to cancel a tour last minute because of the weather which we really appreciated). The team is young and quite inexperienced but in time they will be running a slick ship I'm sure. Particular shout out to every driver we came across, we can't remember any of your names but the taxi drivers were the friendliest people ever!!

Overall: you have to stay here! You won't be disappointed! The critique contained in this review is purely intended for management and shouldn't deter from anyone wanting to stay in this amazing hotel. Our experience was magical from the moment we stepped off the plane (without our luggage) and we were offered a beer! Hotel chocolat is a luxurious romantic hideaway and we will definitely be back. We have already recommended it to friends and family.

Top tip: stay in a standard lodge and use the extra cash to book on the tours and enjoy the food on offer!

From the moment we were picked up we knew it was going to be special and it was!

We pore over all the reviews we receive with our team and its always a massive pleasure when guests notice all the small things as well as the main things. This lovely review will encourage us to maintain our standards and to work further on the couple of things you helpfully pointed out. Thanks again and come back soon!

As Hotel Chocolat 'Chocolate Bond' holders, we were aware of their new venture in St Lucia. As we were lucky enough to be on holiday near by, we booked in for an evening meal. We got there for 6.15pm for a 6.30pm meal. The setting is fantastic and we watched the sun set. A very modern restaurant with a great view of the Pitons. A good choice of drinks and nibbles were offered as we looked at the menu. Everything has chocolate in, even the dips and the butter for the bread. The food was superb and much better than the food at the 5 star resort we were staying at literally down the road. I had the Steak and my husband had the Fish Soup, both incorporating chocolate - amazing how they do it. But save room for the best course, the dessert. I had the Tasting Plate which was from bean to plate, and was 9 bits of chocolate from its formative stage as a bean to a liquid drink. It was amazing. The staff were great and it was good to see the chefs very hard at work in the open kitchen. It is an expensive area to eat in generally but we thought that the quality and the service matched the price. Well worth booking a table and remember - save room for dessert.

We stayed for the final 4 nights of our 2 week holiday and can safely say it was a great decision. We stayed in one of the Lux Lodges and it was both very spacious and particularly well appointed. I must mention that the room has simply one of the best showers either of us have ever experienced, it was not only massive but also semi open to the rainforest behind. The plantation style of hotel isn't uncommon but the fact it was a very active plantation was superb. The hotel runs two tours called "tree to bean" and also "bean to bar", but we did a combined tour; "tree to bar" and it was excellent. The tour guide is a chap called Cuthbert and he is one of the most enthusiastic and likeable people you will ever meet, which is a big part of what makes the tour so enjoyable. Unlike many hotels, which have the restaurant as a feature of the hotel, it's rather the other way round at Hotel Chocolat. As a consequence the guest areas aren't particularly big, but the pool is a decent size, there is a dedicated guest bar and the grounds are lovely, so you couldn't ask for much more. As I mentioned, the restaurant is the main focus of the hotel and it is with good reason, it's phenomenal. We were both unsure as to how the incorporation of the cocoa in all the food would work out, but I can say without a doubt, it works exceptionally well. We had lunch and dinner twice at Boucan and both times we came away without being able to think of a single thing we didn't love about the meal. The bar is also part of the cocoa craze and that too works well, however it does sell non-cocoa drinks, which was a relief. In addition to the excellent food and accommodation, the staff are superb, all very friendly and extremely helpful. All in all we can't recommend Hotel Chocolat highly enough, but obviously with only having stayed a short period of time it's hard to say exactly how a longer stay would be, however I'd be happy to find out.

Thank you. The rainforest showers in the Luxes are rather epic-sized its true, powered by solar and running on rain water harvested from the sky.
Cuthbert, he is as knowledgeable as he is enthusiastic and a genuine pleasure to be around, totally agree. 'Phenomenal restaurant' - quite an accolade, thanks.
'Staff are superb' - I do think we are a nice bunch, thanks again!

We stayed here for 3 nights in December as a package and it was, without doubt, the most beautiful place we have ever stayed. The food was sensational, the service excellent and Judy and her husband are a credit to the Thirlwells.

Firstly, the lodges have no aircon, no tv and no glass windows. It says it on the website so there is little point moaning about that- if those things are the most important to you then maybe this might bother you. However, the noise of the frogs at night is so relaxing and the rainforest shower is great.

Food. Where to start.... Just wow. I still dream about the duck with the white chocolate sauce, and the chocolate Piton pudding. Everything we tried on the menu wouldn't have been out of place in a top hotel.

Drinks. Fabulous cocktails! The watermelon martini was to die for.

Relaxing by the infinity pool was fantastic. It really does look like the pictures on the website.

We also enjoyed a massage and the tree to bean to bar experience.

I would not hesitate to recommend this for a holiday destination. Amazing views, attentive staff and wonderful food.

Very few times, in this traveler's experience, a stay at a newly opened hotel goes without a hitch. One of those few times happened this week at Boucan by Hotel Chocolat. Rooms are spacious, open, contemporary, with great ventilation and with a bathroom "to live there", including amenities of a 5 start resort in any part of the world. The view of the Petite Piton from any part of the property is an experience by itself....and then, to complete all this, there is the restaurant and the SERVICE!.

In many ways, Boucan is a top rated restaurant with a hotel included in its property, yet, do not be discouraged by this description which is intended to be as the greatest compliment. The Restaurant, Boucan, with an exquisite menu with cacao tones of all volumes and shades, will please the palate and the senses. No, there are no thick chocolate sauces included on every dish, nor an excess of cacao nibs on every bite. Cacao is used as nature intended to be, as a simple, delicious enhancer to any dish preparation, classic or not. In fact, every table has a sea salt and pepper grinder.....plus a cacao nibs mill, so you can personalize your drink or meal as wished.

The menu is not one of those intensive 5 page experiments of "let's try everything so we can try to please everyone". This is a short menu, driven to perfection by the chefs and sous chefs in the open kitchen, so open and close to you, that the sight of these "artists" is another show, competing with the view of the Petite Piton. Hard to pick one dish in particular, yet, the Tuna Tartare and the King Fish preparations were unique, the latter enhanced by "white chocolate" mashed potatoes and red lentils, which bring back memories of well prepared indian cuisine.

When you get to the restaurant, ask for Didier, the Maitre'd. Here is an example of a proud young man from St. Lucia, who will make sure that your meal is unforgettable, regardless of how many times you visit. He quietly, yet, efficiently, makes sure that the restaurant is running well and to the customers' satisfaction.

The service and the attention to detail is where Boucan by Hotel Chocolat will become legendary in St. Lucia. The staff is not only approachable, is friendly, caring and simply delightful. Hard to put here all the names of the people you should look for and get to meet, yet, Ms. Lorna and Ms. Bernabe standout, always with a smile and an urgency to please the customer.

Before leaving yesterday I was reminded that Boucan by Hotel Chocolat had only been opened since October. I was also told that the company that owns it, legendary british chocolatier "Hotel Chocolat", is now trying to become a legendary hotelier too. They are on their way to do so. We can hardly wait to come back and witness it.

Room Tip: Any Lux Lodge, on top of the hill, will not disappoint.
