We loved La Haut Plantation - it was perfect for the sort of holiday we enjoy - not formal, but relaxed in stunning surroundings. The room we had in the ground floor of the main building is not luxurious but it was always spotlessly clean and these rooms have air conditioning - it was so hot we did have the a/c on low all night. Bed very comfy. The staff are friendly, the two pools are great (especially as we never had to share them at any time. We count as a plus the fact that we had the hotel virtually to ourselves during most of our 11 night stay (except at weekends) as it was just before the season began - in fact the property is so spacious and the rooms so dispersed throughout the grounds, we did not realise for a week that another couple was also in the hotel. One thing that could become a niggle if the hotel is full is that the one night we had someone in the room above us, you could hear every single sound .. and yes I mean EVERY sound! The food is good, breakfasts are great, prices very reasonable. The views from the property are just stunning and the stillness is superb. I am not sure if it is because there were very few guests or whether the staff are always like this, but they were incredibly flexible, especially regarding the shuttle bus. This is a big bonus because it means you pay very reasonable hotel rates, but can still use all the beaches attached to the posh hotels - admittedly you have to pay to use the sunbeds/parasols - or take your own foldaway chairs as we did - but the snorkelling is great. We went to Anse Mamin, Anse Chastenet and Jalousie beaches - all lovely. The one we never tried was the Hummingbird beach in Castries, but we did walk down twice to eat at the Hummingbird - a recommended eating place. It is possibly to walk down to Soufriere - but I would only do it in daylight and you do need a cab back. We did not hire a car but took a couple of trips organised by the hotel - essentially they have a guy called Christopher who runs a cab/tour firm in Soufriere and he takes you out - generally for very reasonable rates. The trip we did not take was to the fish fry at Anse La Raye as this was extortionately expensive - but the trip to the north was a fantastic bargain. So car hire is not essential, despite the hotels slightly remote location. We splashed out one night and ate at Dasheen (restaurant at La Vedera resort across the valley) (again hotel organised table booking and transport for us) (I think the bill was still less than what we would have paid for the Fish Fry excursion!) We also ate at the Mango Tree at the Summerfield Estate - again delicious but check which night you go as they do a different theme menu for each night. For the above 3 mentioned restaurants, plan to arrive at 5.30 to watch the sun go down with cocktails as they all have amazing views.

La Haut is situated on top of a hill-side, over looking a beautiful scene of the Pitons and the ocean. The view is absolutely unbeatable. The grounds are lovely and pleasant, very quiet and off the beaten path.

The quality and cleanliness of the rooms leave a bit to be desired. Bathrooms are in need of renovation/updating and linens, countertops didn't feel so fresh and clean. We stayed in a ground floor room and could hear the couple in the room above us stomping around in the early morning hours. If you're sensitive to noise, make sure to ask for a top floor room.

The restaurant could have been a winner, however is in need of some overhaul - food service and decor. Menu offerings were decent, however for the price, I'm not sure it was worth it. We ended up eating most of our meals at a more expensive resort by the beach. Breakfast is included, however it will take you over an hour due to very slow service, so if you're in a rush, make other plans for your morning meal.

Staff is very pleasant and wants your stay to be as comfortable as possible which makes everything worthwhile!

Accommodations are OK, but setting is superb. A great little find that I would return to!

Everything about this place was superb. The food was excellant, the views were sublime, the staff were geniune. Glenda, Dennis and Gasper were delightful and made me feel happy and calm. There were several others staff members who were very friendly as well.

I'm a beach bum and even though this place is not on the beach I loved it, as access to Anse Chastanet is possible and not very difficult given some minimal planning. Other fun activities are also nearby but require precision planning, which at times can be a burden with the high cost of taxis and the risks of driving on precipitous roads, but as with anything, the more you try to do, the more attention it requires. It's up to you, how relaxing you make your vacation. Based on the setting, if you like to enjoy breathtaking views and take a few trips to the beach, La Haut is perfect. If you want to do much more such as tour something different each day, ie Fond Doux Plantation, Hike a Piton, etc. you are not looking at a relaxing vacation, you are looking at a adventure vacation. La Haut is great for both!

With more detail pertaining to the venue and service If you like big fancy hotels and are used to having hotel employees treat you like a some kind of royalty, go elsewhere. If you are interested in connecting to real people that are not just staff working for you but genuine, courteous individuals come here, relax, enjoy the setting and the unique charm that makes La Haut one of my favorite places I've ever been. PS I've been to many hotels, small inns, and B&B's around the world...

We loved everything about La Haut from our initial greeting to our farewell drink with the owner. The staff were all excellent and so friendly, we enjoyed the great food and stunning views. Our room was spacious with the biggest most comfortable bed,we spent many evenings relaxing on the balcony soaking up the sounds of the wildlife and fantastic view of the Pitons and Soufriere town. The location was great for exploring the rest of the island and all that Soufriere has to offer. It was home to us for our two week stay and we would love to return someday. Also we recommend Archies bar in Soufriere for food and some rum

The view from this location is amazing. Watching the rain showers rolling over the rain-forest and down over Soufriere with the Pitons filling the frame is a picture we will not forget.
This place has bags of character and somewhere I'd happily recommend to friends and family. The staff learnt and addressed us by name, a nice touch. The food was excellent and the kitchen seemed happy to vary the menu and attend to requests, eg the lunch menu for dinner.
I must admit if you are going to visit St Lucia I think you should hire a car. There is loads to do. For those attractions around the Soufriere area La Haut is well placed. Its easy to find, although driving the West coast road should be done with plenty of time. Its not fast, which is fine as your on holiday and not in a rush. We really enjoyed exploring this region, our only regret is not having more time to hike the rain forest and climb the Pitons. Therefore we will be back and will stay here again.

My wife ad I stayed here for a week's vacation. The staff was friendly the onsite restaurant was good and the pool's were amazing. I love sitting on the room's porch drikning coffee and reading with the mountains in the distance. The view's from the resort are amaizing. If you want a beach vacation don't come here. We rented a car and drove all over stopping at several different beaches but they're all a 15-20 minute drive away.

La Haut or Le Haut literally means "the height" in Patois, a French dialect that is commonly spoken by St. Lucians. La Haut sits on a hill overlooking Soufriere, one of the oldest towns in St Lucia.Part of a 52-acre former coconut and cocoa estate, the main Guest House possesses a unique history. Nearly 100 years old, the main guesthouse was originally a cocoa house used for fermenting and drying cocoa beans hand-picked on the estate. In 1995, the building was converted and refurbished into a 6-room guesthouse. The nearby cottage was a former copra house where coconuts were once processed.Although the rich aroma of cocoa beans no longer wafts through the air, at La Haut you can enjoy the perfume-scented, tropical fauna or the salty breeze that blows off the Caribbean Sea. ... more   less
