On our recent trip to St. Lucia, we visited the Sulphur Springs, took the tour and went through the museum. The short tour is informative and worth the small fee. Should you wish to leave St. Lucia 10 years younger, get into the sulphur mud bath and scrub your skin, soak and enjoy the warm goodness. Following the mud bath drive to Ladera Hotel for drinks and a splendid view of the Pitons and the Caribbean Sea. This attraction is about 90 minutes from Gros Islet by taxi. Should you need transportation to the Sulphur Springs, the airport or another destination, call Patrick at 758)713-6176. He is very careful and reasonable. Great driver!

Of course the sulphur springs smell like sulphur, I worry about people who didn't figure that out ahead of time! The mineral bath was quite nice, very warm (I believe ~104F) and relaxing. The optional mud application was humorous and at times we thought perhaps this was an inside island joke to make fun of the tourists. Either way it does leave your skin amazingly soft for days however if you have any dry skin, say cuticles or maybe on your heel, even the tiniest bit, it will get stained a shade somewhere between brown and orange from all the mineral deposits. Not too horrifying but definitely something to be aware of if you've just had your wedding manicure done. Also bring the worst bathing suit you own and throw it away when you leave. It will be ruined from the deposit stains as well.

As for the guided tour through the volcano it was quite beautiful but depending on your guide it can either be a lively experience or a more sedate one. Ours was low key but we saw other groups in livelier discussions. One thing to be warned of is the hawkers. They are very friendly and persistent but utterly full of [--]. The beads do not come from the mountain, most of them are hematite beads that you could get at any craft store. A good idea is to not bring cash and they quickly leave you alone.
All that being said, we had a lot of fun here. Maybe it was my traveling companion who brought out the best of the experience but regardless I would recommend this to other travelers.

We've had the fortune to visit other such places (Lassen Volcanic Park, for example) so we do have a reference point. This is an interesting stop (and it's good to find out more about why Soufriere, is named as such) but also a bit touristy. The tour is quite brief, and involves a walk down some stairs, and up a short path to an overlook where you see the sulfur springs. If you've never seen anything like this, it's definitely worth a stop. After the tour we inquired about driving further down the road, and were told about an interpretation centre 1/2 mile away. This was a small, but nice exhibit that we were unsure why it wasn't advertised more openly. After a short video, we spent perhaps 20 minutes viewing the exhibits before heading out.

Pretty inexpensive and particularly for the science-minded, it's a decent stop. Just set your expectations properly and you'll enjoy yourselves!

The sulfur springs were great. The hot water was quite hot but as long as you go in quick it is all good. Then the mud and spring wash does make you feel relatively smooth. I went in the off season and there were a lot of people. If you are looking for a good touristy experience this is a good one. Outside of this you will have to find a local to take you somewhere else for a fair price.

Drove almost two hours through the mountainous roads to arrive at the Sulphur Springs, spend 20 minutes walking along the site and returning almost two hours to get back on our cruise ship. I will never take that trip again. There were many beautiful sites along the drive that salvage some of the ride.
