“Beautiful position, beautiful staff!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2010

Have just returned from 2 relaxing/fun weeks at Bay Gardens Beach Resort. Cannot fault suite of rooms on the beach - very spacious, clean, new and beautiful views. Gardens very pretty, nice pool, Pebbles bar has amazing location next to beach with fantastic sunsets and pina coladas! (the hotel is at the far end of Reduit Beach and so enjoys the best sunsets!) The most amazing thing about this hotel is the staff - they are so very friendly and helpful. They are the loveliest people we have met at any hotel we have ever stayed in!!! You cannot fail to enjoy yourself!

My family really enjoyed our stay here. We would recommend this resort. We rented a two bedroom suite with kitchen and had a great view of the pool, bay, and Pigeon Island. It was spacious and comfortable. The resort is kept very clean, and the grounds are beautiful.

We made good use of the kitchen while we stayed at the resort. Drinks and food at the resort are extremely expensive, and most of the restaurants nearby are pricey as well. However, as other reviewers have mentioned, the grocery store is less than a mile away, and it has a good selection of seafood, meat, and produce. It even has some decent wines. You can save a couple hundred dollars a day eating in.

The resort is also very good at little touches that add an aura of class -- when we checked in our beds and the bathrooms were decorated with flowers, and the resort even puts beach towels with flowers on lounge chairs for the guests.

We got a pretty good deal on a trip to the Soufriere area from Saluna Watersports. Their rental equipment is also in very good condition. However, they only take cash.

The only thing that keeps me from giving the resort a 5-star review is the significant number of things that were broken or missing in the unit -- a broken DVD player, broken toaster, broken air conditioning unit in the living room, non-working faucet in the tub, lack of drain plug for the kitchen sink, etc. However, whenever we asked to have anything addressed, the response was immediate.

We paid quite a bit to stay here, but other guests who booked late got good deals because of low occupancy in Saint Lucia this winter.

We chose the resort due to the fact it offered "Kids under 12 stay and eat free" through Transat Holidays. Upon arriving mid afternoon our room was still not ready (even though resort quite empty), and they refused the package we had purchased. We knew food is very expensive on St. Lucia so the savings from having the kids eat for free (9 and 11 year old) was substantial. Needless to say not a good start. The rooms are nice and the maid service was good although often slow to get done. The pool is great and the beach is right there. It is about a 10 min walk to town with grocery store and a small mall. The staff were okay but not as friendly as I'd seen at other resorts on other islands. They would help you if asked but definitely not enthusiastic or even friendly enough to say "Good morning". After several days of debates between the resort and Transat holidays we were told that we would be reimbursed for meals for the kids but only for those bought at the restaurant. That and that alone was the only thing that kept taking us back to the Hi Tide Restaurant. I have never in my life ever been to a restaurant were the food you received depended solely on who happened to be cooking at the time. Standard foods such as fettuccine alfredo, pizza, ribs, hotdog etc. changed completely depending on the cook. With foods like this you tend to know what to expect but they have no consistency at all with their food and therefore each time we ordered we didn't know if we would get the same as we did the last time. Sometimes the food came very spicy as one of the cooks seemed to plaster everything he made in black pepper. The wait staff was horrible too - sometimes took 10 min to be seated when there was no one in front of us and 90% of the tables empty! They stood right in front of us and just completely ignored us. Getting a menu from them was sometimes difficult and if we asked prices they just ignored us. Buffets are outrageously overpriced. We found breakfast to be very inconsistent also as the size of the glass of juice ordered could be half the size some days (even though price was still the same!). Often side orders included with the breakfast where not given (fruit, whip cream etc.). Service is automatically added on to the bill so little incentive to do good service. We often had to wait a long time to receive food as well (1/2 hour for pancakes when the restaurant is empty?). Also the wait staff had a habit of padding the bill by overcharging you - billing you for drinks included with your meal, charging adult price for a kids meal). Almost every bill we had to go back and have fixed.
If you don't eat or drink at the resort then it is perhaps a nice resort - or at least get a room with a kitchen (we had a deluxe room facing the pool).

Our Christmas holiday was booked with Virgin Atlantic and included transfer to the hotel. The accommodation was superb! The facilities were excellent. We had a one bedroom suite. Which had a fully equipped kitchen, dining and living area (with A/C & TV), large bedroom (also with A/C & TV), and large bathroom with 2 sinks, bath/shower & WC, there was also another separate WC & hand basin in the apartment. The bed was extremely large and comfortable, as was the living room furniture. The hotel provided 2 bath robes, and there were other nice touches which included good quality soap, shampoo, shower gel & body lotions which were replenished when required, they even provided a Tea Towel/Oven Glove/Washing up liquid!
The location of the hotel couldn’t have been better, just a stroll through the marvellous hotel gardens or by the magnificent pool and you were on the gorgeous beach. Hotel staff was plentiful on the beach to ensure we always had a sun bed and to serve us with snacks and drinks when the sun got too much for us! There was an excellent gym if you felt the need to exercise and an excellent beauty salon, offering facials, massages, manicures etc. You could even get a massage on the beach!
In the evenings we used to take a stroll up Reduit Drive where there is a variety of bars and restaurants to suit all tastes and there is an excellent shopping Mall.
Apart from the location and the facilities of Bay Gardens Beach Resort, what made this hotel extra special for us, was the staff. All were so friendly and attentive, it created a unique ambience.
We have no hesitation in recommending this hotel; you get all the things you hope for in a holiday and it’s in paradise!

If you are looking for a short walk to a beach (although when we were there the sea was very very choppy and not suitable for young children) - and a pool, this may be a hotel for you. But be under no illusion that you will receive anything like a 4 star experience. When we there, the service was appalling - really simple requests (for example - a teabag at breakfast, glasses for water, even a wine list) were met with shrugs. There are plenty of places to eat nearby so don't be tempted to have anything other than breakfast here - the food really isn't great at all. We had an hour and half wait for a basic sandwich at lunchtime. Karoke and beer drinking competitions were also a feature of our stay - and as it's not a big site it can get very noisy - but this may just have been due to the time of year. Rooms are a good size and kept very clean but unfortunately this did not make up for the general malaise of the staff who we felt lacked the morale or motivation to make their guests stay either memorable or enjoyable.

I came to this hotel for a Romantic getaway…. little did I know my boyfriend had intentions of proposing. When we arrived at the hotel we were greeted by friendly and courteous staff. They checked us in promptly even though we had arrived hours before check in without notice. We stayed in a 1 Bedroom Suite with a pool view. It was exactly as described and pictured, in good condition, clean, comfortable and spacious. The bed was decorated for our arrival with a welcome message and flowers. Also housekeeping, who I must say did a fantastic job, folded our towels in a creative way each day - It was a mini surprise. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. On one occasion after coming in from an activity we accidentally overslept and just missed the Hawaiian style buffet dinner… all the tables were cleared and they were just taking the food into the kitchen. We asked if we could get a take away meal but restaurant staff were really sweet and said not to worry, they set up a clean table for us and took our order. Even though it must have been an inconvenience for them they were really happy and friendly and even teased us that they were giving us an exclusive dinner for 2…. they even lit candles and put the music back on. The activity desk staff member was extremely helpful and made great recommendations. The pool and hot tub were clean and well maintained. Wait staff frequented both the pool and beach ensuring that you never needed to leave your location to order a drink or small meal. The day before we were to leave we requested a late checkout but our room was not available, they offered to store our bags and provide us with another room to shower and get dressed in when we were ready to leave… this was a great convenience. I can honestly say that I personally have nothing negative to say about my stay – all staff ensured that we had a wonderful and memorable experience. I will definitely be staying here again and I would highly recommend it to others.

We stayed over the Christmas period. I cannot seriously fault the hotel; the rooms were large and clean, the pool excellent and the 50ft stroll from pool to beach manageable by even the laziest Brit on holiday!
The food is not great but with so many restaurants within a 15min walk of the hotel who cares! - try the Fire Grill, Big Chef Steakhouse and The Charthouse or if you are feeling bold the Golden Choice in Gros Islet for local food. For even more local colour take a stroll to the end of the beach past all the "all inclusive" cattle hotels to the shack at the end and get the owner (Ann Marie) to pour you some of her home made rum punch and have a chat with her - she will even make up her own mosquito repellent for you (best not to ask what's in it)
Also make sure to speak to Andre at Saluna Watersports - hire him and his speedboat for a day rather that the mass booze cruises that you see and go down to the beaches at Anse Chastanet or Jalousie. We hired it for two days and found him to be an excellent host.
Finally remember to take mosquito repellent, I never get bitten but one of our party became the mosquito equivalent of an all you can eat buffet a subject that he became quite fixated upon throughout his stay !
