We spent 11 nights at the BGBR and had a fantastic time. The hotel is right on the beach and very convenient. What made the holiday so special to us however was the staff employed at the resort who were amazing and made it feel like a home from home. When you go and you need to, seek out pro, entertainment and Ali by the bar, super staff, a big thank you to everyone at the hotel.

We stayed for 16 nights from 31st of August via Virgin Holidays. We booked the suite room on a breakfast only basis was we wanted a change from all inclusive.

The suite was very nice, big living room and kitchen which enabled us to cook on a number of nights which we really enjoyed. There is also a huge fridge which means you can keep you own drinks

There is a supermarket 10-15 mins away, on the way there are a 10 or so restaurants so plenty of choice.

Upon arrival we found our room was next to the Trio’s restaurant and there was a lot of loud music, I went to reception to complain and they explained that it was the last Friday in the month and there were a lot of parties in the town. I was happy with this as we were Jet Lagged and I expected us to fall asleep quickly.

The hotel insisted on putting us in a beach front suite which was a £500 upgrade if booked by Virgin.

This sort of attention to guests was typical for the whole stay the staff and management could not do enough for you, everyone was nice and said good morning and smiled when you passed them.

The hotel was also very well kept every day there were always guys working on the garden, one occasion the ice machine broke down but it was fixed very quickly.

The hotel is very good value, we manage 16 nights in a suite with Upper class flights, all food, drinks and trips around the cost of 2 weeks in Sandals with economy flights.

Would defiantly go again.

General Tips

1. If you travel from the UK take £ travelers cheques, for some reason the bank was paying 10c to the £1 on these over sterling.

2. Try to use EC$ not US$. I did take some US$ but found no benefit to this. If fact when we had a drink at a bar there would be a US and EC $ figure on the bill. I found that generally the US$ was slight more, when you converted it back (US to EC$ is a relatively stable exchange rate)

3. Don’t buy hot sauces from gift shops, they cost 2.5 times more than they do in the supermarket

4. If you want duty free arrange a trip to the Duty Free Village, the Duty Free at the airport is really poor and more expensive.

5. Take care with the local rum punch, many times the white rum used is 80% ABV or 160 proof!

6. You can drink the water!

Room Tip: Suites are great and worth the extra

BGBR was a great place to stay for 4 days of our vacation on St. Lucia. The pros of this resort:
- good service, everyone was friendly with good attitudes and willing to help
- good location, conveniently located within walking distance to many restaurants and the "malls" where you can find grocery stores and drug stores
- amazing views of sunset over the beach
- very clean rooms
- easy access to Pigeon Island, which is a fun day trip just a short boat ride away
- the beach at the resort is crystal clear and there is a trampoline in the water that is fun to swim out to and jump on
- happy hour (buy one get one free) was from 5:30 - 6:30 as the sunset, which was nice
- the in-room fridge was very convenient (we had a studio so it did not have a full kitchen)

The cons:
- the jackhammering was terrible. One of the garden-view units was under construction and every day, all day long, we could hear the jackhammering. It was the opposite of relaxing.
- the workout room / gym is extremely modest. It only had 2 treadmills and one was out of order the entire time we were there. There are a some free weights and a bench press, but it was extremely shaky. There were also ants all over the floor.
- the sand part of the beach is pretty small and the water has no waves (this could be a pro if you don't enjoy waves)
- the vendors on the beach are extremely aggressive. I've been to many islands and am used to this to an extent, but sometimes it still got to be overwhelming. When I'm on vacation I want to relax and not be hassled constantly to buy necklaces, shells, jet ski rides, excursion packages, spa treatments, food, etc.

Overall it was a great value for your money and the best place to stay on the north side of the island if you want to be within walking distance of Rodney Bay.

Room Tip: Beach front is the way to go for the most amazing sunset views.

Staff and Management so helpfull Especially Peggy sweet Virgin Rep -
The Helicopter ride with views of St Lucia and to the Airport - was a fantastic way to end our holiday and such good value.

My husband and I have just returned from a 10 day honeymoon at Bay Gardens Beach Resort, I was warned I might cry when I had to leave St. Lucia and I really struggled not to. The resort is well maintained and spotlessly clean, our room was immaculate for the entirety of our stay. I can honestly say that when the staff say "No problem" they really mean it - they make the place as special as it is, if you need something just ask them, they will do their very best to help you. It is a testament to Cheryl and Bertha that we knew the names of so many of their staff when we left. From Cleo and Kenroy on the front desk, to Penny the concierge, Uralis our housekeeper and the food and beverage staff lead ably by Mr Mitchell. Every single one of them that I spoke to asked me if I was enjoying my stay. We thought that the team at breakfast were particularly welcoming, so thanks is due to Carla, Sacha, Phillipa and Hilaria. Ali, Elfran, Vidal and Garvin in the bar are charming and engaging company - ask them about cricket, everything in the West Indies stops when they play. Pro Fari who runs the sound system is a mine of information about the local music scene on the island.
There are many things to praise about the resort, the gardens and pool are beautifully maintained by a team of only three groundsmen. The resturant staff are helpful. Ask them for a recommendation - they are refreshingly forthcoming about local cuisine, not only the restaurants tied to the hotel. We did eat in Hi-tide and we thought the food was of a good standard, and prices commensurate with this. Drinks are reasonably priced (8EC for a Piton...which equates to about £1.60) and spirits are generously measured! Happy hour is well worth a try - they bring out lovely little appetisers for you to try (the soulfish accra is particularly delicious) . Breakfast buffet is good and varied with lots of local cuisine to choose from. There is a little shop next to the reception desk, it's expensive, however, if you run out of any essentials they have them covered.
The cats in the resort didn't bother us at all, some of their antics were amusing to watch, the staff do chase them away...suffice it to say we didn't see any vermin at all whilst we were there.
On the only occasion I had reason to raise a concern about some noisy maintenance work that was being carried out it was dealt with immediately - the resort is open all year round and so working on the property is at times a necessity. They not only stopped work but also offered my husband and I a couples deep massage in the Spa because we had been disturbed. The massage was a wonderful experience, the staff are lovely and extremely professional. This arrangement was attended to by Cheryl, the manager of the resort and Penny the concierge - both of whom were keen to ensure our stay was not spoilt in any way. Do go to the Wednesday night managers reception, it is lively and a great way to meet the staff and other guests, the buffet dinner offered is good value for money. Other events offered when we were there were a SOCO and Callalou night - again both a good atmosphere, with local music and food and attended by local people.
There is a mini bus that runs from the resort to the sister hotel in Rodney bay on the half hour, useful if you have gone to the supermarket and have bags to carry.
Finally a word about the beach, it is stunningly beautiful and has a steep drop off and a strong current, yes the locals go there (and quite rightly too - it's their beach as well) and yes there are hawkers there who will try and make a sale. The resort has a wonderful security staff in Wilbert, Angela and Francis. Their advice about dealing with beach vendors is invaluable, they are there to assist you and will let you know who can and cannot be trusted. If in doubt, just say no and walk towards security - the vendor will usually go away. Elizabeth who sells Roti and cake on the beach is a lovely lady - 12EC for a lunch is great value. The resort also has a licensed vendor who sits under the fig tree.
I would not hesitate to recommend the resort to anyone visiting St. Lucia, it's the people who make it so very special.

Room Tip: We had room 505 on the middle floor looking back over the pool. We felt it was private enough for us...

After a good search around on the internet I finally settled for this for our Honeymoon and what a great choice it was. From our arrival until the end our stay it was fabulous!
On arrival the front desk staff made us most welcome, Nal and Stefanie ensured our thirst was suitably quenched with a few rum punches. We had booked a room room with a sea view and what a view we had complete with a bottle of bubbly. The superb view was a joy to wake up to each day. The hotel is suitably positioned, so that a short stroll takes you to the numerous restaurants either on the beach or the road up into the town.
The hotel and grounds are maintained to a very high standard and the beach is also kept clean each day. Security guards are always present on the beach but keep a low profile.
The resort has an excellent swimming pool and bar area, and the managers drinks on a Wednesday night is a good crack.
All the staff make you feel very welcome and are constantly offering advice as to where to visit etc.
This was our first time in St Lucia and probably won't be our last.
Thanks again Bay Gardens!!

Room Tip: Try and get room 912 as it has an excellent view.

Have just returned from a wonderful and relaxing stay in beautiful St. Lucia. My wife and i have been all over the world and the Bay Gardens Beach Resort is probably the nicest hotel we have ever stayed in. The location is fantastic, in a quiet area but only ten minutes walk to the shops and right on a lovely beach. The hotel itself is an attractive and pleasant set of low rise buildings with well maintained grounds full of flowers and palm trees, a lovely pool area with direct access to Reduit beach and comfortable rooms and suites.
The thing that really makes this place so great are the helpful and always friendly staff who make you feel like family, they did everything they could to make our holiday as nice as possible including upgrading us for our anniversary and bubbly in the room.
If you want to go to St. Lucia (and you should) stay here you won't be disappointed.
Thank you Jackie, Penny, Dernelle, Olive,Cheryle, Kirby, Cleo, Rita and everyone else at Bay Gardens Beach Resort.
