I spent 10 days in April 2014 in St Lucia with my wife and 6 year old daughter (first visit). We chose this villa from a longer list in preference to an all inclusive resort.
The villa is really well located in Rodney Bay towards the north of the island. Rodney Bay seems to have the best tourist infrastructure with plenty of bars and restaurants. The villa is part of a group of 6 apartments in a gated/guarded reserve called The Reserve in a quiet road but within a stone's throw of 2 excellent supermarkets and shopping malls. There are loads of bars and restaurants within easy walking distance of the apartment. Some good ones like Tapas on the Bay, Big Chef Steakhouse and Spice of India are right at the end of the road. There's also nearby take away options including indian, chinese, domino's pizza etc. The bus stop for Gros Islet, Rodney Bay marina and the capital, Castries is no more that a 5 minute walk away. The beach takes longer. I would say that it is a 10 to 15 minute walk from Reduit beach.
The villa itself is lovely. The ground floor mainly comprises a kitchen that opens out to an open plan dining area with table and chairs, and spacious lounge with 2 large white leather sofas and a huge flat screen TV with separate DVD player. There is also a downstairs toilet at one end of the apartment. The kitchen has all the crockery, utensils, glasses etc. that you should need and there is a large American style fridge/freezer which is essential in the hot weather. There is a cooker and hob but no microwave. There's also a breakfast bar along one side of the kitchen (adjacent to the dining area).
At the end of the apartment on the ground floor are some French doors leading to an outside dining/patio area with views of the swimming pool, garden area (which includes sun loungers and umbrellas), private mooring area for boats and Rodney Bay beyond. The view is absolutely beautiful and despite being so centrally located it is incredibly quiet and tranquil. During our stay only a couple of the other apartments seemed to be occupied so a good deal of the time it felt that we had the place to ourselves.
The decoration is very contemporary and there are some nice pieces of furniture here and there so the whole apartment is very attractive looking. There is no air conditioning on the ground floor so it can get hot. During the day when we were there we opened the back door and French doors and there was always a lovely breeze blowing through. In the evenings we shut them to avoid any mosquitoes getting in so we had to make do with a ceiling fan in the lounge area. It was effective but not as good as air conditioning.
On the upper floor there are 2 large bedrooms each with en suite bathrooms adjacent. Both the bedrooms were air conditioned and both had French doors leading to balconies. The master bedroom balcony sports a table and 2 chairs with the view of the pool, gardens and bay and was a great place to spend some time. The other balcony is effectively road side. The view is unattractive so we did not use it but did not need to anyway.
There is also a dressing room on the top floor that houses a safe.
The service could not be faulted by me. We found the owners to be responsive to emails when arranging the holiday. They emailed us when we were there as well. At our request they arranged taxis to and from the airport.
Upon arrival we met with Zan who manages the property and Irene who is the housekeeper. Zan handed over the keys and showed us around explaining the necessaries. She arranged to meet with us the next day to let us have some information and to offer to help with any trips or other stuff. We asked her to arrange one trip for us (Rainforest Sky Ride) and to organise a hire car for 4 days. She also gave us information about buses, restaurants etc.
On the whole we had no problems with the apartment but we did email Zan one evening to let her know that the ceiling fan in the lounge was not working. She came the next day and fixed it without any fuss.
Irene kept the apartment really well. She spent a couple of hours at the property each day (except Sundays) and clearly has great pride in her work. She left the apartment in an immaculate state on each visit. She was also very friendly with our daughter and was herself a useful source of local information.
The swimming pool and garden areas were also kept immaculately. We met with Mark who told us that he was responsible for those areas. He deserves credit for that. He was himself very friendly and gave us some coconut water for our fridge towards the end of our stay.
All in all this villa proved to be a great choice and we found it to be the perfect base for exploring St Lucia. It feels genuinely luxurious and undoubtedly contributed to a really enjoyable holiday. I thoroughly recommend it.
