“Amazing family holiday”
Reviewed May 14, 2013

Travelled to St Lucia for a special family holiday 25 April to 6 May with British Airways. Three generations in our party. We all had a wonderful holiday. Staff very friendly and helpful. All our 3 beachfront rooms were serviced to a very high standard in Blocks 700 and 500. Various activities were available in the pool and on the beach and most of our party enjoyed trying the fantastic water sports available. The grandchildren thought the Kids Pool and slide were awesome. Restaurant selection was excellent with 4 to choose from offering various types of menus. Plentiful choice of fruit with wonderful local pineapple and bananas. Palms for breakfast with a wide range of food available. The lady who cooked our eggs and omelettes did an excellent job. We participated in all including the Le Jardin as a special treat. The Management Team and staff worked extremely well following a landslide at the hotel following a night of very heavy rain which took out the main water supply. It was nice to see Mark the Manager at various locations around the resort stopping for an informative chat and very approachable. Overall everybody in our party had an excellent enjoyable and amazing holiday. N&DA.

We spent two weeks at Morgan Bay returning on 3rd May. We found it to be excellent value for money as the food was more than adequate and the drinks were plentiful. There was free wifi and free watersports which were excellent. The beach staff were very pleasant and helpful as were virtually all the staff we met. Generally nothing was too much trouble. We loved St Lucia and cannot recommend it too highly. We loved going out on the buses where everybody was so helpful and friendly. There was more rain than we expected and i think it was unusual for this time of year - we were in the hotel rooms that were evacuated due to the landslide but this handled well with no stress and in return we were able to keep our room later on checkout day. The rooms were clean and the gardens were beautiful. Lovely happy welcoming people wherever we went.

We had a wonderful stay at SJC in room 603. Our room was quiet, clean, and we could walk right out to the beach. There were many activities on the beach and we took advantage of trying all of the water sports. The food was plentiful and fresh. Service was polite and quick. Our best day was on Joy's Cruise for a day trip. It was very relaxed and we saw the best parts of the island by sea. They served a delicious lunch on the most beautiful beach on the island.

My husband and I stayed at this resort from 4/30 - 5/7. Most of the staff were very friendly and helpful, although it was quite a trek to our room! We were greeted at the open air lobby and served a glass of rum punch while checking in - all of this was top notch. One of the employees gave us a ride in the golf cart to our rooms and brought the luggage up for us. Everything at this resort is all-inclusive except one restaurant, which was an extra $27 per person (Le Jardin). The first night we had seven inches of rain and a minor landslide, causing our water to go out for several hours. Fortunately we had planned to spend the day at the pool anyway.

The hours of each restaurant and bar are published and easy to understand. They are all open air with no walls or windows except for Le Jardin, which is closed and air conditioned. Le Jardin was extra, but completely worth it, as there was live piano playing, beef tenderloin to die for, and an air of high class service. The wait staff were all impeccable, especially Barrington - great job! My husband tried to get him to come work in the states.

The room and food service seemed to be geared more toward visitors from the UK with the outlets, silverware settings, and dish ware - much more than what we are used to in the USA. The food served was a mix of fish, caribbean food, British, and some American. I did have to remember to say iced tea or else they would bring out hot tea with the extras, and it was an average of 85!

The weather was nice the majority of the trip although the sun was very hot and brutal from about noon to 3:30 and there was no shade while in the pool. At night the humidity seemed to rise, and the Pier restaurant out on the ocean was stifling with no air flow. The food was great, but waiting for it there was miserable. There is a family pool, and an adults-only pool with a swim-up bar (all drinks included). This was great to not have to worry about children jumping and splashing around.

The beach was nice but clogged with seaweed and not the best for snorkeling. We did a few excursions and they had several water sports activities to offer. Overall, this was a great experience.

For traveling from the airport, it is an hour and a half taxi ride and we paid $20 per person (there were four of us). The northern, closer airport would require a chartered plane or the helicopter. The taxi ride isn't bad although the roads are steep and twisted, so if you get carsick or seasick, I would recommend medication.

Overall the country is very poor and there was quite a bit of soliciting whenever we left the resort. We felt completely safe and at ease inside the resort, but I would travel with a group in the market. They will also provide you with a safe within your room and a lock/key so that you can lock up your valuables.

We just returned from a great vacation to St. Lucia May 5.

We stayed at the St. James Bay Morgan club resort.

In general we had a great time, we found the resort to be up to date and well maintained.

The rooms were clean and freshly painted, even the grounds were very well kept.

We found the staff to be very helpful and friendly, Service at the bars were a bit slow at times due to volume.

The food at the various restaurants was good. but perhaps they could use a bit more variety. Breakfast and lunches we almost the same everyday at the main buffet.

The food seemed better at the a - la - carte restaurants. The Morgan’s Pier and the Bamboo were very good, we also ate one night at the Le Jardins restaurant, but you have to pay an extra $25 US each to dine there.

The water sports were top notch and we enjoyed sailing on the Hobbie cats several times as well as a banana boat ride. The beach staff were very friendly and helpful.

The waves on the beach were a bit rough at times and the visibility wasn’t the greatest for snorkeling, plus there was a great deal of seaweed there.

There was not a lot in the way of nightly entertainment, however they did have a few very cool jazz musicians entertain us for several evenings.

The only problem we had was with the weather. It rained off and on for the first few days and was quite heavy one night resulting in a landslide at the far end of the resort. The landslide cut the main water main to the resort and we were without water for about 12 hours.

There wasn’t much anyone could do and the resort did provide everyone with bottle water to help out a bit.

The highlight of our week was a day trip from Joy’s Adventure cruses.

Joy is an independent operator on the beach of the resort. At $100 us each it was excellent value.

We left around 9:00 am , They took about 12 of us on an offshore boat ride down the west coast of the island for some sigh seeing, point out various sites, Joy’s son Vaughn was our captain and he really looked after us throughout the whole day making sure everyone had a great time !

We stopped at the village of Softretres where we took a short taxi ride up to the volcano caldera near the pitons.

After a short tour of the dormant volcano, we went to the hot springs area where we were able to sit in some very hot water pools and a volcanic mud bath..(funny.. I didn’t think it would do anything, but it really did make out skin softer)..

After we rinsed off.. it was back in the taxi and they took us ½ way up one of the pitons to a very private secluded area. There we walked though the tropical rain forest to a secret waterfall where we were able lounge in warm pools filled by warm water tricking down from a waterfall coming from very high up in the piton. We could have spent the entire afternoon just at that spot. It was incredible ! We travelled down to a private beach where we were treated to some real Creole food. All prepared by Joy’s wife and brother..BBQ chicken, Fresh fish, and various vegetables and salads..

Next it was back on the boats were we went to an exclusive resort nestled in between the two pitons, to snorkel over coral reefs filled with all kinds or interesting aquatic life for about and hour.

Finally we got back in the boats and headed back the resort drinking ice cold piton beer and Champaign! I could not have asked for a better day trip !

Room Tip: We were in the 700 block 2nd floor with a beach & pool view.. perfect location

We arrived from our holiday yesterday. The transfer time was 1hour and 40 minutes and overall it was a pleasant journey. Drivers usually keep you informed while they are driving. We got to the hotel and were welcomed by a lovely member of staff and a nice and cold glass of rum punch. We told her my husband had just returned from Afghanistan and she offered us a complimentary bottle of champagne and a complimentary meal at the fine dining restaurant. We were very pleased. We were then taken to our room and we were surprised to see that we were put in a twin room. We were not very impressed with this.
The hotel's facilities are very good. The pools are lovely and the beach is fantastic. Members of staff are extremly polite and greet us every time they pass by us. The tours offered by the hotel are extremely good and at reasonable prices.
Food at the hotel is of average quality. There is 3 restaurants which are included with the all inclusive package and one fine dining restaurant which costs $25 per person. They also have a pool bar (a bit far out from the centre of the hotel) which provide food throughout the day. Even though the quality of the food is average, I feel as though breakfast and lunch is very repetitive. For a caribbean island I was expecting more variety of fruit at the hotel, but most days we only had watermelon, cantaloupe melon and honeydew melon. I had to stalk one of the vendors at the beach for some coconut water which should be provided by the hotel really. The burgers offered by the hotel are extremely dry and hard to eat. Service in the restaurants is very good, however Morgan Pier restaurant let us down a few times. We had to wait 30 mins for a table, were left with no drinks for about 40 minutes, they got the order wrong, overall a meal that should have taken us 40 minutes ended up taking 2 hours. Fine dining restaurant is highly recommended. We had the most amazing steaks ever and service is brilliant.
We also had the chance to visit the spa for a couples massage. The girls are amazing and I highly recommend it.
Entretainment differs every night. They had DJs, Karaoke, etc. It was quite boring entretainment to be honest. Thursday night was amazing. They had a talent show on with all the members of staff. We were blown away by their dancing, steel band, singing, etc. It should be like that ever night.

overall, it was a very good holiday and we had a fantastic time. We would recommend this hotel but expect more of a 3 star hotel rather than 4. It could be a fabulous hotel if only food was more varied and entretainment more lively.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a double or twin otherwise they will put you anywhere.

We are not long back from our amazing honeymoon in St Lucia. We arrived on Tues 16th April for 12 nights. We had a transfer time of 1.25/5 hour to the resort from UVF airport. St James Morgan Bay is located towards the top of the island on the Carribean side. As I'm not a great traveller, I was delighted to see the entrance to St James Bay and at how lovely it looked! From this moment on everything on our honeymoon went like a dream. Our room was located in the 3rd Block and we were situated on the top level (there were only 3 levels) with our view being of the Ocean. It was breathtaking waking up every morning to that view. Air con was a godsend in the room and it was cleaned every day by Veronica who did a smashing job. All the restaurants in the resort are of a very high quality with the Bambou & Morgan Pier being our 2 favourites. We didn't try the Le Jardin as we felt we didn't need to pay an additional supplement of $25 per head to eat great food as we got that in the others. All of the entertainment each night is in the Sunset Lounge where you had stuff from flame eaters to soloists to a Carribean band. Sometimes it was a bit of a cliché but overall it was nice to sit back and relax and sample the atmosphere.
The beach was kept immaculate as was the whole resort. Since St James have taken over the place, they have done a number of improvements that were noted by those who had been there previously. Nothing was ever an issue for the staff in the resort and we loved it. There is loads to do if you are so inclined. A lot of the water sports are free to those staying in the resort but there is also the option of hiring jet skis etc. We did this and loved it - $50 for 2 for half an hour.
I visited the beauty salon one of the days to get my nail done. Its located up past Tommy's Bar & Pool (adult only pool). Very big spacious salon where I received great service.
We did a days excursion to the Pitons, Sulphur Springs etc. It was a great day out on a boat and booked this through our tour rep. However there is a guy on the beach - Roy, who does similar trips and is supposed to be brilliant. Another couple who we met on the trip did this one and had an absolute blast. Little cheaper than the one we booked.
Overall I would recommend St James 100%. We loved our stay there (despite the tropical rains that lasted a few hours - all part of the fun). The resort and staff are top quality and we found absolutely nothing to complain about. Would we return - absolutely! I think that says it all:-)

Room Tip: Try to get Ocean View rooms in block 3 - near enough to the restaurants and bars but far enough way...
