“First Time in St Lucia”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

Travelled with 4 year old daughter from Feb 17-24

Was very satisfied with the resort. The food was good but we didn't try a la carte restaurants because with kids you can't wait that long to get your food.

Had an ocean view room and the views from the room and the entire resort are great. It was one of our favorite things about the resort. The bed was a little uncomfortable but all in all very satisfied with the room.

We didn't see much of the evening entertainment but can hear it from our balcony and enjoyed listening to the music while drinking some wine and having a cigar.

The beach is small and has some rocks in the water. If you are a beach lover thit is not the place but from what I have seen the entire island of St Lucia does not have the fabulous beaches of Cuba or Negril. However, the scenery of the Island was fantastic. We saw a lot of it on an excursion we took from Joy's Tours on the beach.

Found the service from the staff very good and they were very friendly.

This is a good resort for the money.

The hotel was just fine - very friendly an helpful staff. I don't know what the more expensive hotels would have to offer that this resort doesn't cover. The evening entertainment could be better and the service is a little slow but that is the St. Lucian way - no rush, no hurry. Do not leave yourself a tight timeline for meals and out the door, leave plenty of time.

We just returned from St. James Club Morgan Bay we were there for 7 days 8 nights wished we booked for longer. Our stay there was fabulous, we had no complaints staff, food, beach and our room was great. The view from our room was breathtaking. The service was great, we didnt see a grumpy person on staff the whole time there. The grounds were beautiful very well looked after. I would definatly go back, no reason not to. If you have complaints about this place then your standards are way to high. We loved it and came home refreshed and relaxed.Canadians from the Praries

I stayed at this resort jan 27 - Feb 2, 2013. It is a small, exquisite resort, and I would return again. It seems to be in the process of being refurbished as the tennis courts were being resurfaced, and some painting definitely needed to be done. The food was okay, but there were really long waits due to being understaffed, I think. The bars definitely needed more staff. All the staff was very gracious and I felt really safe there. The view is spectacular. The main buildings are on beach level and the buildings that you stay in are all uphill walks. It is not a good choice if walking is a problem. Golf cart rides to you room were offered, however. The service at the spa was spectacular. I would return again.

Room Tip: Get a room in the 400 block with an ocean view.

We stayed at St. Jame's Club Morgan bay for a week long vacation. The resort is on the more populated North end of the island, and it's only a short ride to the capital city of Castries. I researched many resorts before deciding on this one. I decided that we would stay here because the price was lower than many places and the hotel grounds and rooms looked very attractive with nice views. The rooms and grounds were just as pictured here on Tripadvisor. The resort is in a pretty bay with nice views of surrounding mountains and the ocean. The sun sets over the water, so I got lots of great sunset photos.

This was our first time staying at an all inclusive resort. Food service was the reason that I couldn't give the resort more than 3 stars. Dinner eservations are required at all of the restaurants except the Palms and service at all restaurants was almost always extremely, annoyingly slow. It wasn't unusual to wait 15 to 20 minutes to have your water glasses filled and drink orders taken. For example, we dined at Morgan Pier with a 7:30 reservation and we walked out of there at 9pm without having had dessert because we were tired of waiting for someone to take our dessert order. There were long waits to order each course and also looong waits for the food to come out. Menus for the restaurants are available in the lobby and there is desk there where you can make your reservations. You can make reservations 2 or 3 days ahead, and it's best to make them right away when they open them up for a given night. If you don't get there fast enough, you'll be dining at 8pm or later. There were 4 restaurants on the property:

The Palms:
The Palms is buffet restaurant and it's the only restaurant that is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is also the only restaurant that doesn't require reservations. You can eat the most quickly at this restaurant, no matter what time you arrive, since it's a buffet and you serve yourself. It can be slow going to get a server to fill your water glass, take your drink order or refill your drinks. The food is decent, but not great. Dinner at the other restaurants is better, but the others require reservations. Breakfast is pretty good - The scrambled eggs on the buffet were an unappetizing watery consistency, but they have an egg station where you can get an omelet or fried eggs, and those decent. This is one of two restaurants that serve breakfast. The other restaurant is Bamboo. We learned during our visitor orientation that the breakfast is the same at both places. Bamboo tends to be a little busier for breakfast because it's closer to the ocean and has better views.

Bamboo:
Is a Mediterranean restaurant. They also serve a buffet breakfast, which is exactly the same as the breakfast offered at The Palms. They are closed for lunch. We ate here for dinner once and it was good. Dinner reservations are required. The wait isn't too long for breakfast, since you serve yourself. Like The Palms, you may wind up waiting around for your beverages. Service was prompt at dinner time as well on the one time when we ate here, but it was so slow everywhere else that we ate that it was probably an anomaly. It had been raining that night and I think the restaurant was slower than normal.

Morgan's Pier
This a seafood restaurant. It has really beautiful views and the food was good, but the waits were so long that I never left there happy after a meal. It's open for dinner only.

Le Jardin:
This is the fanciest restaurant on the property and it's open for dinner only. There is an extra $25 per person charge to dine here. The food was very good here, definitely a little better than the other restaurants. However, the wait was absolutely terrible - at least as bad if not worse than the other restaurants. We had an 8:30 reservation and waited a half hour for our water glasses to be filled and our drink orders taken. I complained at that point, and service was a little quicker after that, but you expect really good service when you're spending an extra $50 to dine there.

Poolside Snack Bar:
All of the other restaurants are open during certain hours and there are times when they are all closed. This one is open in the late afternoon when you can't get food anywhere else. They have bar food here and the service is slow just like everywhere else.

Alcohol:
The resort has Heineken and Piton beer. Piton is a local beer that is named after the 2 most famous peaks on the island. They have wine too, but most wine options are not very good. I had to taste several to find one that I could drink an entire glass of. It's the kind of place where they ask you if you want "red or white." The staff in general has no wine knowledge to make recommendations.

As I mentioned before, the very slow service at the restaurants is the main reason that I can't give this resort a great review. The property is beautiful and we enjoyed our stay otherwise. There are plenty of beach chairs to go around, although you might struggle to find one in the shade if you are trying to stay out of the sun. There are 2 adults only swimming pools and one has a swim up bar (closes at 6pm). The only other quirks that I wasn't happy about are:

- There was no alarm clock in our room. Living on "island time" is a charming idea, but you need to know the time to make it to the restaurant before 10am in order to eat breakfast, and of course almost all of the restaurants require reservations for dinner. The resort does wake up calls, but bringing a clock or watch is a good idea.

- There is no outlet in the bathroom to plug things in when getting ready.

More about the location:
- We didn't leave the resort to dine since the resort is all inclusive, but it appeared to be a close cab ride to civilization outside of the resort.
- The Pitons are the two most famous mountains on the island. They are on the west side of the island and it's at least a half hour drive (if not more) to get there. We did a tour through the resort that took us to see them.

Stayed 1 week Jan. 20 to 27, 2013. Upon a late arrival, we were less than impressed. The resort management knew in advance (20+hrs) our arrival was delayed approx 6 hrs, arriving at 1:30AM. There was no welcoming drinks or welcoming staff - they were there doing their job because they HAD TO - no smiles, no welcome to our island/resort - it was as though it was our fault for the late arrival - not AirTransat/CanJet flight. First time we have experienced this from any Carribean resort. Not the way a first impression should be made - especially to very tired vacationers.
Our AirTransat rep., who we met the next AM is a fabulous individual and we enjoyed connecting with her throughout our stay.

Did not want this to dampen our experience, so we put this behind us by the next morning.
Our 1st Buffet breakfast was less than appealing, as the food presentation lacked greatly.
We dined our 1st full day at the buffets where the quality of food was average.
By mid-week, a new executive chef had arrived and by the time we left, improvements on presentation, selection and quality had occurred.
Restaurant selections were good; The Palms-buffets, open air; Bambou-breakfast buffet only, lunch, high tea and dinners on the ocean's edge -lovely; Le Jardin-upscale a/c dinner only service an extra $25USD pp, service was great & relaxing, meals were ok-not outstanding as expected for extra fee, maybe it covered only the additional 2 wines available; Morgan Pier - directly on water and our favourite for dinner, spend the extra $30 here for Lobster dinner - the best we have had anywhere on our travels! Also enjoyed a birthday dinner with attentive service - hubby paid for the extra BDay package - flowers, champagne, cake - beautiful!

The resort grounds are lovely - well cared for and lush. Pools are laid out nicely and never had a problem with loungers or chairs/tables anywhere on resort.
Beach is small but well cared for. After touring the island it became very apparent that St. Lucia does not have miles & miles of beaches that can be walked daily. This is disappointing, but not the resorts' issue. For this reason we will not return to St. Lucia...there are too many islands that have beautiful beaches to explore. We are beach lovers.

Nightly entertainment was fine, but once 11 PM hit everything became very quiet. Bars closed between 1 & 2 AM. This is the first A/I resort that did not have a bar open 24 hours for drinks & bar food - not appealing. During the day time, long line ups at the Bar - not the bartenders' fault - not enough staff.

We stayed in the 400 block that backed onto the ocean/inlet, where we were treated to gorgeous sunsets. This block has the Wedding Gazebo located on the ocean - beautiful setting. The rooms were okay - majority repainted & clean. Dresser in closet was filthy and shower/bathtub tiles had some mildew. Another oddity for an A/I - the mini bar was NEVER stocked. Not with water, juices, pop, beer - NOTHING!

SJCMB Spa - had a couples massage and deluxe manicure. Great services provided at a reasonable price.

SJCMB - There was security patrolling 24hrsX7 and we always felt safe, regardless of the vendors on the beach. Overall, we felt safe on the entire island.

Booked excursions that were readily available at the front desk;
Sunset cruise - 1:30 to 8 PM - great trip, would encourage you not to miss this sailing to the Pitons stopping for snorkeling with booze & finger food served after;
Full day trip to Botanical Gardens, Mineral Baths, Volcanic Pitons, Fishing villages, Banana fields, Buffet lunch, etc - another great day trip!

Anticipating with St. James's Club acquiring this resort, the staff, entertainment & dining standards will improve. You have a great location and this resort could easily become a 5* with effort focusing on overall Customer Service.

Room Tip: Stay in the 400 section (low #) either 2nd or 3rd floors/older section refurbished/very quiet; or 11...

Just returned from ten days at Morgan Bay and had a lovely relaxing time. The gardens are beautiful and so are the views from the hotel. We thought the food was great and although there was sometimes a wait for meals to arrive in the a la carte restaurants as we were on holiday it wasn't a problem. We found that the staff were all very courteous and helpful and our room was comfortable. I wasn't happy that our room wasn't being cleaned until late afternoon and I mentioned this to Housekeeping and then it was cleaned much earlier each day.
The sunset lounge needs refurbishment and I'm sure that will happen and it would be good if there were a few more sun umbrellas available as there weren't enough to go round when the resort became busy. We thought the bar staff worked well to get everyone served and drinks were fine.
I would go again although I would avoid the busier times.
We stayed in St Lucia a few years ago at a resort which was twice the price but I preferred Morgan Bay. I liked the choice of restaurants and the fab spa and the relaxed atmosphere and good service. I had four treatments in the spa and they were great. Thank you Anneki!
We loved sitting on our balcony watching all the activity on the beach and enjoying the view as well as relaxing on thebeach or bythe pool.
A lovely holiday, thank you Morgan Bay

Room Tip: We chose Ocean View room but I think all the rooms looked good and some of the garden view rooms hav...
