“Not a bad Friday night lime, a little commercial, but safe enough if you are careful”
Reviewed June 25, 2013

Street dancing, crowds, roadside drinks, etc, with a ( small ) number of pushers offering faked drugs, a "Cuban" cigar seller wandering around with some dubious "Havana " cigars and some "commercial" looking and calculating local girls ( and probably some boys ) for hire. Friday night is the big night, as it is in most of the Caribbean.

Its a place mainly for tourists and if you go, take it all with a pinch of salt but watch your surroundings and possessions ( ideal place for pickpockets ) , don't carry or wear too much fancy stuff or look too affluent, don't get falling down drunk or you will be an easy victim, but otherwise enjoy it. Having said that I was with around 40 street - wise Trinidadians who pretty much took it over and I live in the Caribbean so I know the score. Yes there is some security but look after yourself , however its probably less edgy than it initially looks, so don't be scared away. Its the sort of place you probably go to once and with some friends, and the next Friday you find something better to do.

The small restaurant in a wooden chattel house just down a side street from the main crossroads, The Golden Taste, has been highly recommended and we chatted with the chef / owner who is very pleasant.

“friday night out”
Reviewed June 21, 2013

Event was just as described where tourists mix with the locals eating and drinking the local fare.Did not enjoy the food that much as it was too cold. The vendors need to have food warmers.

“Enjoyed every bit of it”

Loved the people, atmosphere, dancing, freedom. Love it all. I enjoyed the fact that police was also present so there was a great sense of security.

“Fun time, but too many Pitons and rum drinks”
Reviewed June 17, 2013

It was exactly as described, which was street fair for tourists and locals to mingle. After the second rum punch we all got into the spirit of things, but paid the price the next day. Worth checking out if you are near Rodney Bay. Too far a taxi ride from Castries or elsewhere.

“Great food, great fun!”
Reviewed June 17, 2013

We went several times to the Gros Islet Friday night street party and enjoyed loads of good street food and local drinks. It has a great party atmosphere with lots of types of music being played at a thumping volume throughout the night. The locals are friendly and found it to be a safe environment for a good night out enjoying a great Caribbean vibe.
