Having seen all the trip advisor reviews, I knew we were in for something special and I was right. we have never been on an all inclusive holiday before as we usually do more explorative trips around various places, mainly the US, but we were in dire need of a quiet break, so we chose East Winds. we hate impersonal hotels where you could be anywhere in the world, so we really appreciated the tranquil informal elegance of East Winds.
there is not much I can add to what other reviewers have said, except to say everything was beyond perfect. the food was so fresh and delicious, especially the lobster which we enjoyed plenty of! it was creative with subtle flavours which enhanced the fresh food, rather than horrible overly sauced food which you get in some hotels. Staff were incredible, so friendly and helpful. thanks to you all, so much. The gardens are kept beautifully and really add to the ambience of the place. I hope this never changes, because many hotels would seek to sqeeze in as many apartments as possible rather than keep the large grounds. the wine and spirits were of really good quality - as another reviewer said, I had expected cheaper brands which would have been fine, but we were very impressed with the great quality selection. Titus, Tim, Kirwin and all the bar staff were great at making innovative tasty cocktails and were so funny and friendly.
The watersports were great and the staff helpful and friendly. We especially liked the hobie cats. Snorkelling was good too, and if you go round the bay to the beach at windjammer, you may find the octopus we saw there! We didn't see the sea horses though unfortunately. I loved our room, the shower, the well chosen furniture, everything really. Hotel entertainment was lovely and not in your face, just complimentary to the general ambience. the sunhuts on the beach were great and plentiful. The swimming pool looked great too though we couldn't tear ourselves away from the beach to use it!
You can do as much or as little as you want at East Winds, it's up to you. We spent a lot of time just relaxing, but reception will tell you about various trips you can take if you want more stimulation. We did a lovely boat trip to the Pitons, volcano, botanic gardens and plantation, and we also did zip wiring which was fantastic. Yoga was good and the Pilates really excellent, thank you Nikita for all your efforts( and you were right, it really is the best way to get over a hangover!) the pavillion where these classes were held is lovely and spacious.
the sunsets which we watched every night were some of the most beautiful we have ever seen.
We met some lovely people at East Winds too.
I am sure we will be back, thanks again for making our holiday really special.

Room Tip: We were in the superior room which was lovely, and we would choose the same again. We didn't hav...

THANK YOU FOR THE PEACEFUL, SERENE AND BEAUTIFUL REVIEW

This truly is a wonderful review. The number of different aspects of East Winds Inn which you comment upon in the most favourable of lights, is outstanding. The remark “everything was beyond perfect” really says it all. “Staff were incredible, so friendly and helpful” ranks right up there as well. Rather than quote ever so many positive statements, we would simply urge readers to review this posting very carefully. Therein, you will see that it contains over 30 different topics which are discussed about East Winds Inn and St. Lucia – all so positively and succinctly stated. Thank you for taking the care to be so detailed and encouraging to everyone who made your holiday so memorable.

You even noticed the other guests – “We met some lovely people at East Winds too” – we are always proud of the quality of guests we attract at East Winds Inn. In fact, most of them become repeat visitors as you have also suggested you will be – what more could we ask for?

Thank you again for all your positive comments and support of East Winds Inn. We would love to have you back to the “Small Resort with a Big Heart”, which you have now discovered for yourself. It was so kind of you to share it with others.

From the second we arrived we knew we had made a great choice. The girls in reception were friendly and efficient, offering cold towels and a choice of drinks, then we were shown to our deluxe room which was really fab it was really clean the bed was very comfortable, i loved the sunken shower, the towels were big and soft, the receptionist then took us around the resort so we knew where everything was. The pool is really nice with the self service bar, we had the pool to ourselves a few times. The beach is small, but plenty of sun beds, and the sea is beautiful, calm and warm. The restuarant is really good the food and service were great, breakfast and lunch are buffet style, plenty of choice. Paula makes fab omlettes. Miriam, Hannah,Maggie Haige made mealtimes fun, there are more great staff but i have forgotten their names, Titus made the best cocktails. The fine wines and champagne were a joy, we have stayed at other all inclusive where the drinks are cheap and watered down, but not at Eastwinds, another reason to go.Its a great place to relax and unwind. I think that the management team at Eastwinds has got the best team of employees on the island, even the chaps who look after the watersports were friendly and went out of their way to be helpful and even suggested for my birthday they take me out and fish for my own birthday dinner. We shall return, and have already told our friends that they should go.

“BEST HOLIDAY EVER” REVIEW APPRECIATED

Thank you for sharing your holiday experience at East Winds Inn with potential travelers to beautiful St. Lucia. Stating this was your “best holiday ever” is a bold comment, which we greatly appreciate receiving. The numerous superlatives you have chosen to utilize in your review speak for themselves – great choice, friendly and efficient, really fab, really clean, very comfortable and many more. Like many guests, you loved the sunken stone showers, and appreciated the big, soft towels. The pool also seems to have made a positive impression.

It is nice to see you refer to so many of the dedicated staff by name. You are right, Paula makes a mean omelet – she’s been doing that for over 18 years at East Winds, and she will make whatever you want for breakfast – with a smile. Miriam is relatively new to East Winds, but we are already hearing rave reviews – she works closely with Maggie and Haige – two of our experienced servers for the exquisite four course dinners with wine pairings. Hannah has been with East Winds for over 10 years and makes great cocktails, having won bartending competitions throughout the Caribbean. And Titus – well, he is the consummate barman with a great sense of humor and always a special drink up his sleeve. As you say, there were many more, and you consider them “the best team of employees on the island”. All the staff at East Winds Inn thank you for that comment, and are eager to provide you with the “best holiday ever”.

We are pleased to read that you wish to return, and are telling your friends about East Winds Inn – “The Small Resort with a Big Heart”. Your ongoing support is greatly appreciated. Hope to see you again soon.

We came to East Winds for our honeymoon 16 years ago. Since then we've been to every continent and many countries and travelled around the world twice. We've stayed in 7 star hotels (and some hovels) and eaten in top restauranrts (and some slums). We don't impose any rules upon ourselves but somehow we said we would never go back to the same hotel twice. The problem was, year after year, we'ed compare where wever we were with East Winds. So you've guessed it - here we are again!
It hasn't changed much - it's still great! We rank it as one of the very best hotels in the world.
The welcome, the staff, the food, the gardens, the beach, Eric the poor old, and now lonely, parrot and Gareth the manager are all wonderful.

The guests are, without exception happy, relaxed, friendly, peaceful and reserved with few children and no noise.

Yes the aircon rumbles a bit now and again and the shower taps have a mind of their ow and one hawker on the beach (who introduced himself as Bob Marley) was a bit persistant until the wonderfully understated EW security wandered over. Then there's the stunning evening sounds of the tropics (shame on the reviewer who complained about that!) with crickets, frogs and Eric!

The new fitness trail is fine, althogh I found myself the only one using it, and although we didn't try the pilates we really enjoyed the smooth rythm of the yoga - what a stunning setting!
The sandy beach is great, the snorkeling is good and clear and the walk along to the Windjammer (small shops) and cash bar is worth the effort. The real fun though is on the canoes and hobie cats. The bigger hobie with the foresail is best for tacking and gybing but both are fun.

The manager booked an afternoon sail for us 3 other guests on the 36ft sloop, the Good Expectations out of Rodney Bay. Jus Sail were great, good value for money, a wonderful sail, safe swim and a glorious sunset!

The bar staff are brilliant too! Its great fun making up your own cocktails!

Lastly, I may have got a bit older in the last 16 years but my wife still looks as young as ever!
Will we be back here again? Well I guess some rules just have to be broken.......

Room Tip: They are all good, its horses for courses

REVIEW SO GOOD AFTER ALL THESE YEARS – THANK YOU

Sixteen years after your honeymoon at East Winds Inn and your wife “still looks as young as ever!” – that is possibly the best testament that we have ever received about the place you started your married lives together. And despite the self-imposed rules about not going to the same place twice and travelling the globe a couple of times over, that omnipresent memory of your experience at East Winds Inn 16 years ago just could not be duplicated. So you had to come back…and you did! As much as this could have been a big risk for fear of damaging a very fond memory, it seems to have proven to be a big reward – which it clearly became during your recent stay with us. We love hearing stories like this, so thank you for sharing it, virtually, with everyone.

It is so interesting that you sensed the resort “hasn’t changed much”, for this is exactly what we have been tirelessly trying to achieve over the past five years. What you clearly meant is that the atmosphere and the authentic character of the resort had not changed - like the General Manager, Gareth Leach, who has been here more than 20 years. But if you look ever so carefully, you will realize that almost everything has in fact been changed to make it an even better experience with the same unique atmosphere. New lounges, new dining room and bar furniture, expanded beach, new sun huts, new Steinway grand piano, new bar-b-que building, new railings, new bars, new original artwork, new table settings, air conditioning, new room furniture, new yoga and activity pavilions, new reception area, expanded kitchen, all new roofing, antique map and print collection, new lounge washrooms, newly renovated lounge, expanded ocean view rooms and balconies, continuous new paint inside and out, new bathrooms in Superior cottages, Wi-Fi throughout, a new entry sign feature and even a brand new emergency generator just in case things get nasty. There are many more “new” things which could be mentioned, but the point has been made.

What is so rewarding however, is to read that you feel the important aspects of the place have not changed that much, for if there was a single message we received from our repeat guests five years ago, it was simply – “don’t change a thing”. So as you can see, we didn’t. Yes, there is more of the friendly and efficient staff – 84 to be exact, but there are also more guests at any one time, and the room count has not changed – still 30 cottage style rooms sprinkled in a verdant, oceanfront garden of 13 acres on a pristine bay of the Caribbean Sea. East Winds now has a unique vibe which you surely noticed, underscored by your comment “The bar staff are brilliant too!”

So please, go ahead and keep breaking the rules – at least the one that will allow you to become a regular visitor of East Winds Inn. You couldn’t make us happier in any other way, and your wife will stay looking as young as ever for a very long time.

THANKS FOR THE BLISSFUL REVIEW

Your acknowledgement of our “amazingly helpful, kind and considerate” staff is most appreciated in this excellent posting. We are pleased that you found the cuisine “excellent”, and the rooms “beautifully appointed”. Mention of the early morning yoga – which is an integral part of the East Winds experience – is also rewarding, as we are very proud of the atmosphere in our open air yoga pavilion and the quality of our instructors.

It is nice to know that you made close acquaintance with Eric the parrot – the fact you could says a lot about your demeanor, and in our view, makes you the perfect repeat guest. We do hope to see you back again soon, at the “Small Resort with a Big Heart”. Thank you for your genuine comments and support of East Winds Inn.

This was our first time to St Lucia and East Winds. We have previously stayed in Barbados at Mango Bay and Tamarind Cove. East Winds was by far the best location for rooms, food, and the friendly attitude of both the staff and other guests.

Our holiday got off to a bad start when our Virgin flight was delayed for 24 hours, this meant we only had 6 days instead of our planned 7 days (thanks Virgin!). The transfer from the airport by road takes about an hour and 20 mins and was an interesting way of getting to know the island and seeing the sights. We were tired when we arrived but were really pleased with our room (5). The rooms are well laid out and although we had one of the older rooms it did have an air conditioning unit. The sheets and towels were lovely (none of that stale kitchen fat smell you get so often on hotel towels), the bed was huge (2 large singles joined together) and the basket of fruit and bottle of Rum made us feel very welcome. We found it helpful to adjust the air conditioning at night up from 19 to about 23, otherwise it could get a bit too cold in the night with the refrigerated air falling onto the bed.

As we arrived on the Monday it was the managers cocktail reception that night. I normally dread these events as they are usually just an excuse to sell you a bunch of services, trips and extras. I was nothing like that, no formal welcome just plenty of champagne and a chance to meet other guests and ask questions if you wanted to.

The meals are really good, well thought out menus which change daily. My one suggestion would be for a lighter lunch option. Sometimes I would have liked just a simple sandwich, burger or soup rather than the full salads and BBQ choice. The Saturday evening BBQ is great, the steak was lovely but the lobster (not a real favourite of mine) was a bit chewy. The 'entertainment' (another pet hate of mine) was great, very low key piano or jazz. The lunchtime steel band was enjoyable as well.

This is probably not an island for people who need constant stimulation, golf or entertainment, however it's ideal if you want a relaxing time just chilling out in the sun. We took a land and sea tour with Serenity Tours who were excellent and I did a dive with Steve's Scuba, one of the best I've ever done. The rest of the time we were able to enjoy lazing and reading our books in the shade on the plentiful sunbeds, there was never an issue getting one although the 'prime' one at the front always went early in the morning. The pool is a good size and never crowded, the swim up and help yourself bar is a nice touch.

The grounds are lovely with a wide variety of birds and interesting plants. We were next to a tall tree and the birds (Starlings or Grackles?) roosted there in the evening. The first morning we were woken by them singing at about 4am as the sun rose, but after 2 nights we hardly noticed them. In the evening you can see bats whizzing around in the sky and the humming birds were delightful. The crabs in the garden are amusing, popping in and out of their holes.

My wife works in Education and so we visited during the half term holiday. There were a few families with mainly older children at the hotel, all of whom were well behaved and a pleasure to talk to. It was without doubt the friendliest hotel I've stayed in, we chatted, and often had evening drinks, with the majority of the guests (who were mainly English). Just a note on the drinks. Often on all inclusive deals the drinks are local or cheaper brands. Not at East Winds, I was delighted to see Tanqueray gin (my favourite), Johnnie Walker black label and many other premium brands. We had some excellent cocktails, especially Margarita's, but sadly no Mojito's - apparently there is a shortage of Mint on the Island (perhaps the gardener could consider planting a mint patch?)

The only real issue was that the sea was very rough when we stayed. This was the after effects of Hurricane Sandy combined with a high tide. The waves crashed against the sea wall, sometimes even coming over, and it was difficult to swim for a couple of days. It also ruined the visibility and snorkelling was impossible (something I really enjoy). Towards the end of the week this settled down and everyone told us this was very unusual. Oddly when we visited the other end of the island, on what was probably the worst day, the sea was completely normal. So I think this may also be something to do with the position of the hotel on the North of the Island, and as I say it only really effected swimming in the sea for 2 days.

It's a little more expensive than some other resorts, but it's small, friendly, and the money you spend shows in the quality of the food and drinks - you are not paying for personal Butlers, flunkeys, kids clubs, OTT Spa's or any of that sort nonsense.

All in all highly recommended and judging by the number of other returning guests we met I have a feeling we will also be back. It would be a nice touch if there was a discount for returning guests?

Room Tip: The rooms near the pool and bar had an issue with late noise one night I believe, we had room 5 and...

THANK YOU FOR THE DETAILED AND POSITIVE REVIEW

Please allow me to begin by recognizing the breadth of your experience and seniority as a reviewer on this website. With 28 reviews – 24 of which are hotel reviews – in 25 cities, you clearly have a great deal of knowledge as a traveler, and your reviews should be taken with considerable seriousness and merit. That said, you can imagine our delight that as a first time visitor to East Winds Inn, we seem to have made the grade to the point where you are already considering a return visit. From the beginning, where you state that in comparison to other Caribbean hotels you have previously stayed at, “East Winds was by far the best location for rooms, food, and the friendly attitude of both the staff and other guests.” That is a very powerful comment which sets the stage for a well expressed review.

We note that you have differentiated many of your positive experiences at East Winds from other hotels you have previously stayed at, including the casualness of our Manager’s Cocktail Party, the high quality level of the cuisine, the top brand drinks, the low key entertainment, the uncrowded, good-sized pool and self-service pool bar, the lovely grounds with a great variety of birds and interesting plants and importantly, the wide variety of interesting and engaging guests at the resort. We also note your comments about the rougher seas on account of hurricane Sandy, but I can assure you this is more of an anomaly than a regular occurrence, as was reported by the numerous repeat guests who you had the pleasure to meet and confirm that the sea is typically very calm.

Your conclusion – “All in all highly recommended and judging by the number of other returning guests we met I have a feeling we will also be back.” - is our greatest reward, for every guest who does come back to East Winds Inn is a happy guest indeed. Thank you for your supportive posting, and we do look forward to seeing you again soon.

Time and time again we return to this island paradise. The east Winds inn is surely one of the best kept 'not so secret' secrets! This was the 8th time that my wife and i have been to East Winds. It just seems to be like a gigantic magnet that keeps drwing us back.
The welcome we received from EVERYONE on the staff was just wonderful.
The food is still, possibly, the best in the caribbean. That, coupled with the fine wines, champagne every evening and ,for the most part, very nice guests, makes the East winds THE place to relax.
If you do nothing else in your life, go to east Winds and be pampered to bits!!!
It was my birthday and wedding anniversary- A special meal was prepared for us in a very romantic setting.
I'll be back.(again and again)

ANOTHER LOVELY REVIEW – THANK YOU

Can you imagine the fulfillment which all of us at East Winds Inn feel when we receive a review from a guest who has visited this special resort eight times, and read how it was “Another Lovely Holiday”? Please believe when we tell you that is the most gratifying thing we could hear, and how much we appreciate hearing it. To be referred to as a “gigantic magnet that keeps drawing us back” is a wonderful metaphor – we will remember that for a very long time.

From your appreciated welcome, the comments about the food, which “ is still, possibly, the best in the Caribbean”, the fine wines and champagne, other guests and the simple ability to relax, all of your comments are so greatly appreciated. We are so pleased that you were pampered on your birthday and wedding anniversary – these are the occasions we love to celebrate with our guests in whatever manner they please.

To hear that you "will be back (again and again)" is such positive reinforcement for the staff whom you have come to know so well. We look forward to that time, and will continue to do our utmost to ensure you keep coming back to the small resort with a big heart. Thank you for everything!

Eastwinds Inn is an amazing place. The cottages, set in beautiful botanical gardens, are well appointed and kept clean and tidy by the housekeeping staff. The guests are always a mixture of different ages, with many returning guests. New comers, who say they never return to a place more than once as there are so many different places to visit in the world are soon heard to be changing their minds and saying they will return. What makes it so special? It has to be down to the staff, who are so friendly and professional, and do everything possible to make sure everyone has a good time. I really love having dinner in the beautiful candlelit dinning room just by the sea. Choosing from the extensive menu is very difficult and takes a great deal of thought whilst sipping a glass or two of champagne. The gentle lapping of the sea, the quiet buzz of conversation, an excellent meal, frequently topped up glasses and wonderful background music makes a perfect evening after a hard day on the beach! We have visited the very special Eastwinds Inn many times----we are extremely lucky!

A VERY, VERY SPECIAL REVIEW – THANK YOU

What can one say about a review that begins – “East Winds Inn is an amazing place”? Other than ”Thank You” many times over, we would also like to say how pleased we are that you have been continually satisfied during all your visits to the small resort with a big heart. There is no need to repeat what you have said about the cottages set in the beautiful botanical gardens, which are cleaned to the highest of standards, the variety of interesting guests, the number of repeat visitors and so forth.

As you so rightfully point out, what makes East Winds Inn so special is the staff – “who are so friendly and professional, and do everything possible to make sure everyone has a good time.” Yes, there are many other positive qualities of the resort, but what gives any holiday destination its true soul are the people who work there to ensure that you have the best experience possible. And from your lovely review, it is obvious that you have captured that element as one of the main contributing factors to your numerous visits in the past, for which we are extremely grateful. “The gentle lapping of the sea, the quiet buzz of conversation, an excellent meal, frequently topped up glasses and wonderful background music makes a perfect evening after a hard day on the beach” – that epitomizes East Winds Inn and we thank you for your insightful comments.

As you state, you have “visited East Winds Inn many times-----we are extremely lucky”. To that, all which needs to be said, is so are we! Thank you for your ongoing support, and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
