Traveled here in 2007 NOT 2010 booking for 17 Nights from 14th December though to New Years Eve. (Best time to be in St Lucia is (December-January)
To get to this property you WILL need a jeep, forget a car the roads will kill it. It's on the peak of Belle Vue mountain, over looking the Atlantic & turtle beach from the front veranda and the Pacific at the back with pigeon island in the foreground.
Other than the pitons this is the best view on the island.
From the airport its about 30 miles but a long 2 hour winding journey so plan your flight to meet the keyholders during the day. The gates are electronic leading up the the chateau and its a very steep hill even up the driveway. The building is huge. We had a 3 bed-roomed suite with all amenities. It was clean, cool and had a lovely veranda overlooking the Atlantic (See pictures) .At the time we went they were building a new house next door BUT we didn't see a lot of works going on so it never bothered us, (2007) I suspect it will be finished now.
The next door neighbour is a chef for one of the islands hotels so collect your cooking tips while there and he has a lovely family and we were greeted by the Chateau owners family Rowena and Leicester who offered to show us around some local places to eat after we said we would like to experience the culture of the island. They were very nice people and assisted us greatly. We had some fabulous times with them, inviting us to eat at their beach side place in Gros Islet and taking us down to the Friday night Jump Up we felt looked after which was fantastic.
During the day we would sometimes relax in the small swimming pool & 20 person Jacuzzi overlooking the pacific which was just sublime.
If you want to take the whole family, this place is ideal. You can have up to 20 + people there.
As a Wedding location its perfect. For 20/20 cricket fans the ground is just a short 2-3 mile ride or walk away
At night St Lucia comes alive but the chateau is remote enough not to be bothered by much noise until weekends. Here you will experience the culture of the relaxation and partying depending on what you really want to do. We went on boat trips and experienced the boating activities, pigeon Island and various restaurants all over the island.
Please note you will need mosquito protection as your high up in the mountain and as with on the coast at night they come out to feed. Make sure you have the nets (provided) over the beds and you take some NEEM OIL for protection.
The wildlife in the area is tremendous, bird and insects in the grounds are abundant if your a wildlife buff (like me) this is also a great place to stay. Small birds come to feed on the veranda and are not shy at all. At night the bats come out and watching them swoop over the pool with the pacific and pigeon island in the background is an amazing experience.
Do not attempt to walk down into Rodney bay unless you're a mildly experience hill walker, the roads and paths are gravel filled with huge potholes.I really don't know how the binmen work their magic but they are there ever other day.
The ammenties are good and the air conditioning and ceiling fans are useful on the warm evenings. The hot water is solar from the roof so is on demand.
Try to get to know the family if you can, their experience and island knowledge will amaze you.
We payed about £1400 for 16 Nights in 2007
