Absolutly excellent location - right on the ocean front in a nice fishing village with a good feeling. Next to a small beach with a few locals occationally swimming or going out fishing. Five minutes walk to a larger beach on the other side. Five minutes walk to bus stop (at Castro's Bar - not recommended) where mini-buses will take one to Castries for 2,50 EC$. And a five minute walk to Red Dot for groceries.
Rooms at Bay Guest House are cleaned every day (so excellent clean rooms!!) and the beds are made.
The cheapest rooms are on the rear side - facing the street. Other rooms are facing the ocean with excellent views and with verandas. The two rooms at the ground floor share a veranda, but this veranda can also be used by guests staying at the rear side. Nice for those staying there - but if guests from there or from the adjacant room decide to sit on the veranda all night - forget about sleeping.
There are two dogs guarding the guest house. They sometimes bark a lot during the night. And .. they s... (this is an illegal word acc. to trip advisor) in the garden. So beware of your steps.
Rooms are very hot. There's no a/c - only some fans.
Excellent service. The owners are extremely helpful and very friendly.
I can highly recommend this place. If you can live with the dogs and the lack of a/c.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. We're so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us and extended the original five day booking by another five nights.

On the guests talking in the patio, (or in general any other problem which is within our control to rectify), it really is a pity that you didn't tell the night officer at the time, so he could have sorted the issue straightaway.

Our dogs are held by the night officer all night, so it's strange you say that they were barking at night. We used to clean the dog mess every morning, but now it's done twice a day.

We always listen to our guests' feedback and wherever possible act on them, so we are thinking seriously about installing air conditioning in the rooms this summer. We have kept our prices low (haven't increased them for 7 years), but if guests really want ac then we can give it to them, but of course prices will have to rise. The vast majority are happy with the fans in every room, so it's not an easy decision for us.

Thank you again for your review and for choosing to stay with us.

We had the upstairs flat with a huge balcony. Just great to wake up in the morning to see boats passing the window. If you want a 5 star resort then this is not for you but if you want location, views and the friendliest and most helpful hosts in the world then it so is. We will go back to St Lucia - but would make sure we could stay here before booking the flight!

My boyfriend and I just visited St. Lucia for 11 days. We were staying in different villas around the island to get the full experience. The Bay Guesthouse was our first stay and it was fantastic. Gros Islet is such a charming little town and the Bay Guesthouse is perfectly located. It's walking distance to Rodney Bay if you want to shop, eat, or take in their beach. But if you want a smaller town and more local food then just stay in Gros Islet. We loved the accomodations and views. Pepsi and Polka, the two dogs and Stephanie and Will were amazing hosts. They were very informative and had great suggestions and ideas for the area and activities to do while we were there. We both highly recommend this place and look forward to visiting again.

This place is a gem with a combination of incredible value and wonderful management. I can not rave enough about the owners Will and Stephanie, they were helpful, kind, honest and are great hosts overall. The rooms (we stayed in both the $40 a night and $50) are great value for the cost and I recommend the $50 room because you have a kitchenette you can use and groceries are easily accessible via bus. Again, wonderful and would stay again.

We stayed here 5th May 2012 for just over a week. ( Three of us ) It really is a fantastic location ,with specacular views all around the bay.The accomodation is basic, but really clean and spacious ( upstairs rooms) Everything in the kitchen supplied, Ceiling fan and standing fan really works hard,to keep the rooms cool, but it was ok & comfortable.Good layout of rooms.
Unfortunatly I was taken ill in the week and had to go to a medical centre. Will the owner kindly drove me to the Medical centre, where I was well taken care of.
Stephanie and Will are the most helpful and friendly people you could wish for, with good advice & ideas what to do,Also the dogs are delightful and very friendly. I liked Gros Islet location because it is among the locals...which I must add that the locals are friendly and we never felt uneasy & was never pestered like you are in some countries.I would definatly stay here again.

Room Tip: We had the top floor, I presume this must be a better view ,but downstairs have good views too.

I was looking for a place to relax and wind-down after experiencing a stressful time in London and the Bay Guesthouse fulfilled that need and more. It's right on the beach so you wake up looking out over the calm sea, putting you in a good mood from the moment you open your eyes. It's also a short distance from Pigeon Island National Park, which is one of the most tranquil places on the island. You have to pay $13.5 ECD to enter the park, but this means there are security guards preventing the people that sell tourists tatty jewellery (at Reduit beach).
Will and Stephanie, who own the Bay Guesthouse, are so knowledgeable about the area and told me where to get the best food (the Friday night jump-up just outside the hotel and the Saturday night Fish Fry are highly recommended). They told me where to watch live jazz (at the Jambe De Bois restaurant on Pigeon Island), country and western music (sunday nights in Gros Islet) and what activities can be done on St Lucia (snorkelling spots, catamaran tours and scuba diving)
I did two days of diving with Scuba Steve's dive centre, which is a 10 minute walk or 2 minute drive away from the Guesthouse and thoroughly enjoyed every minute.
If you want to escape city life and find some tranquility to think then you must visit the Bay Guesthouse. A few nights there will change your perspective on life and help you to re-assess what's important to you.

Room Tip: The Ocean Front Studio has the best view over the sea. It's worth the extra $10/night

We spent 8 nights here. We walked almost every day to our diving centre (10 minutes) and loved being right beside the beach. Will and Stephanie were nice and helped with good advice. The room was clean and comfortable. The view from the terasse is amazing. We enjoyed having our breakfasts there and sipping a beer while watching the sun set. We also spent some time on a slack-line that we installed between the two coconut trees right in front of our studio (almost as much as we enjoyed eating fresh coconuts).

If you are very sensitive to noise, you may want to consider staying somewhere else. We slept with earplugs every night. The neighbourhood is particularly lively on Fridays and Sundays and cats and dogs can get chatty at night. We didn't care: we wanted to be in the village of Gros-Islet, as it is less touristic than Rodney Bay and Castries.

If you go there, try to spend the a Friday night and a Sunday night. The grilled fish party in front of the guesthouse on Sundays is the greatest fish BBQ I've ever seen.

Room Tip: We loved our studio : shared terrasse, refrigerator and cooking plate. If you want more privacy, you...
