“Dream Honeymoon”
Reviewed June 23, 2012

My husband and I spend our Honeymoon in February at Calabash Cove and we could not have asked for a more amazing place to stay.

First off, yes there are stairs... worth the trip... so get over it.

The food is wonderful! We were there for 7 nights and 8 days and we ate Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner and did not get tired of the food.

The staff is warm and friendly and practically tripping over themselves to accommodate you. We got to know Lily who worked the bar upstairs at night, Jonathan and Lance at the pool bar and Marsha at the Spa very quickly.

The beach is just breathtaking. Although it is technically public, because all St. Lucian beaches are, we saw very few locals or even guests from other resorts. This is the perfect private getaway.

We stayed in the Water's Edge Cottage and loved every second of it. There were some bugs, very few, I just made sure to wear bug spray, but my husband didn't get bit at all.

Overall we had a wonderful stay! We can't wait to go back.

There are so many things I would like to say about this AMAZING hotel! I would first like to say that this is the most beautiful place on earth! The views, rooms, staff, pool, cottages, spa... oh wait did I say STAFF.....is truly SPECTACULAR! I cannot thank Martina & Unita for taking such great care of us while we were there. This place gives you the feel of being in your own kingdom. It has only 26 rooms and has the most beautiful scenery. It is quiet but lively with personality. There is nothing that Calabash could not provide. The pool bar was a great place for afternoon lunch and drinks with the all too funny bartenders LANCE & JONATHAN. They have the best drinks and jokes. The culture of St. Lucia and it's people is so laid back and happy. Its not a rat race like in the states. After this trip, my wife and I are convinced we are retiring early there. If you go, I HIGHLY recommend going ALL INCLUSIVE, the menu was superb and the bar will take care of you! (Trust me, I know) We watched the first two games of the NBA Finals with a troff of beers next to us in the Whisper room. :D - Long story short, CHOOSE CALABASH COVE. The Sandals is a spring break for honeymooners and the other hotels cant compare. This place covers all your bases! CALABASH FOR LIFE! We'll be back there very soon!

Room Tip: If you dont mind spending the money, the cottages are the way to go. They're private and spaciou...

I need to clarify that this is only a review of the restaurant and not of the entire resort. My wife and I ate a wonderful meal with two friends at Calabash Cove recently and it warranted a review onTrip Advisor for others who may be looking for a great place to eat on the island! By all accounts the rest of the resort looks lovely and the location/view is certainly stunning.
We had a variety of starters - Tempura Octopus, Mussels in a white wine sauce, Seared Tuna salad all of which were fantastic. For mains we had - Steak, Lamb, Duck and Wild Mushroom Ravioli. I had a taste of all of them and they were all excellent! What was a really pleasant surprise was how generous the portions were so we were not left wanting...but couldn't fit a dessert!
The service was of a high quality and the Chef came out to visit us twice to ask how the food was for us.
The setting was clean and well laid out with high quality cutlery.

All round a great experience that I heartily recommend.

This was a 'special birthday' and the hotel delivered, especially Unita the manager who was just charming and really helpful. Such a contrast from some of the other, larger hotels around the island. We managed to change to one of the bungalows for part of our stay and I would really recommend that if you want quiet and privacy, although it did cost! We opted not to have all-inclusive as we wanted to eat out and this proved to be a cost-effective choice - the hotel menus are quite limited and I would not have wanted to eat there for every meal. A lovely touch was the flower petals left on the beds by the room maids - real works of art! We would have preferred a separate bathroom, rather than incorporated into the bedroom.

Must say we were very pleased that we hadn't asked for one of the swim-up rooms which had little privacy and were festooned with greenery, allowing no sun onto the balcony.

The hotel is relatively isolated - we were warned not to walk from it as there are a number of properties with unrestrained dogs nearby - so if you want to go anywhere it is taxi or hire car - but as others have said the driver, Saddiq, was just great! We did hire a car for 2 days but found it difficult to do or find much with the lack of signposting once you left the main road, also nearly ran out of petrol as so few garages on the island. The way to see St Lucia is definitely by boat.

We really enjoyed this holiday because we wanted to relax and enjoy the sunshine. It is rather 'couples' & 'romantic honeymoons' however - we saw nothing much for families with children; there is not a great deal to do and it's a shame such a small island is over-run by so many cruise passengers on day trips.

Just returned after 7 days at Calabash. I spent around 3 weeks deciding where to take my wife and due to so many rave reviews settled on Calabash Cove. The best way to describe this place is to look in the dictionary for Paradise and replace the definition with 'Calabash Cove'!
My wife new nothing about the holiday as it was a special treat, decided on the helecopter both ways, brilliant and so much easier, what a way to start and end.
Stayed in Cottage 9 which was at the far end, nice and private with lots of grass around, went all inclusive which meant no worries about eating and drinking (maybe that was a bad thing as my weight went up!) If you can afford it go for the cottages, you will not regret it one little bit.
From entering the reception to leaving the staff were FANTASTIC, everything looked the same as the web site, believe me this place is STUNNING.

We also used the spa for massages twice, again the staff were amazing.

The staff were friendly, helpful, great to talk to, polite, I could go on. Restaraunt manager Cristopher all of his team who served meals and drinks, pool bar tenders Jonathan and Lance (great cocktails) Hotel Manager Unita, the gardeners and Alba who bourght us fresh pineapples when we were sunbathing. Barbara the cleaned the cottage each day and left some amazing designs on the bed sprinkled with flower pettles.

Food and drinks were superb and the fruit tasted out of this world.
The only negative is leaving the place!!!! Can't wait to go back again - worth every last penny spent.

Andy

My wife and I just returned from our honeymoon and overall we had a great stay (with one hiccup during the first day/night). The hotel grounds and landscaping were gorgeous and really well-maintained. What was most impressive was how friendly and polite the staff was, both to its guests and to each other. And to go even further, it seemed that everyone on the island was very friendly. Our tour guides on each of our excursions were very entertaining and informative. Our cab driver for the week (Sadiq – ask about him at the front desk) gave us a cell phone every time he dropped us off at a restaurant so we could just call him when we were ready to be picked up. Such a friendly Caribbean island.

Here are a few issues we had with the resort:

The room: we stayed in cottage 4 and spent most of our time lounging by our private pool. The hiccup I mentioned earlier was that the air conditioner was broken when we arrived – it was working but it was leaking water all over the bedroom so we couldn’t leave it on. They told us they couldn’t fix it until the next morning and offered to put us in a sunset room since no other watersedge cottages were available that night. They fixed the AC the next day and it worked for a few days and then started leaking water again (even after they installed a brand new unit). They fixed it again and it seemed to be fine the rest of the vacation. Unita (the hotel manager) was very apologetic throughout the whole process and did her best to make up for the inconvenience. At checkout, she agreed to refund us the difference in cost of the watersedge cottage and the sunset room (for the one night that we were moved), which we thought was fair. **one tip: if you notice a lot of mosquitoes, you can ask maintenance to spray your room when you’re out for dinner and the scent will be gone when you get back.

The restaurant: we didn’t do the all inclusive because we’re smaller people and don’t eat/drink that much. This turned out to be a good plan since we weren’t all that impressed with the food. Keep in mind we only had one lunch and one dinner there so it may have just been an off day, but there just appeared to be a lack of variety and the quality of the food didn’t seem to justify the price. We ate breakfast there every day since it was included in the European Plan room price. The breakfast foods were good, however, it was pretty lacking in variety. The choices were mainly just a number of different ways to cook eggs. No sweets like French toast, crepes, etc. And the “pan-fried corned beef” I’m pretty sure was straight from a can (for $10 USD). All of this being said, part of what you’re paying for is the gorgeous view and the great service and staff. If we could change one thing about the resort, it would be the quality of the food/menu.

Please don’t mistake these complaints as a negative review, overall we had an excellent experience, we just felt that we could help improve the resort by offering our feedback.

We stayed in one of the Waterside Cottages and were overwhelmed with the beauty and serenity & amenities of the resort! It was exactly as the resort website showed - no "Club Med" funny camera angles to make the location look bigger and better than it was. The resort and grounds were actually more beautiful in person. The view from the restaurant and pool area were heavenly & we have so many fond memories of great food and beautiful views - an unbeatable combination! Also everyone was so friendly and very concerned with our well-being. We've traveled quite a lot and stayed in many very fancy hotels where we were treated very indifferently so this was a very pleasant surprise!

We also had the most wonderful 8 hour guided tour to Souffrie with Sadiq, the taxi driver that the resort recommended! Sadiq is a native St. Lucian and extremely knowledgeable about his country and gave us the best tour we've ever had anywhere! He took the time to explain the history, customs, sites, plants and people. We learned so much about St. Lucia from him and are so grateful that we met him.

Room Tip: Waterside cottages were wonderful & we would stay there again. We had a vigorous walk every day...
