Great tasting pizza and reasonably priced! Great service, a little further from our hotel than other restaurants but well worth a visit!

“Service - what's that? Italian pizza - obviously no one has been to Italy to taste 'real' pizza!!”
Reviewed December 7, 2012

We visited on a quiet Tuesday evening at the end of November, the restaurant was empty so service should have been excellent as they had no pressure and only the 3 of us to serve. The Key Largo 'experience' started when the waitress came back to our table about 2 minutes after she had handed us the menus to ask had we decided yet? We had hardly had a chance to open the menu at that point so we said no and she asked what did we want to drink - a quick glance at the menu showed no obvious drinks list so we said what do you have she pointed at a clear plastic card that was laid flat in the middle of the table - a brief glance showed a selection of cocktails and nothing else. As we did not fancy a cocktail at that point we asked what else she had - her facial expression said it all, lights on, no one home, so we basically had to drag it out of her, do you have cola, do you have fruit juice, what can you offer? We ordered our drinks and she went off whilst we considered the menu. We chose our starter and choice of main course. One of our party wanted some options on their pizza toppings - more problems, eventually the order was placed. Thinking back we should have walked out but one of our party had been several years before and we were assured that the pizza was worth waiting for so we sat and waited. The shared starter arrived, it was placed in the table and the waitress left. We all looked at each other - there were no plates, no cutlery - nothing. We waited but no one appeared rather than get up and look for someone we thought oh well and took a piece from the plate and started eating. The drinks had arrived by then and as we finished the starter we sat and waited for the authentic Italian pizza to arrive. Yes it was thin and cooked in a wood-fired oven but tasty it was not. I looked around the table and there was no salt or pepper to be seen so I called the waitress over (she was sitting talking in the corner) and asked for some black pepper (something I might add that every Italian restaurant I have ever eater in, even including one in Beijing China, yes I did say China, has - in fact a whole ritual surrounds the dispensing of the black pepper in a tall wooden grinder as lovers of Italian food worldwide I am sure will agree). We don't have any came the reply - we told her to go to the kitchen and get some she returned with a glass bottle of chilli oil?? Since when does chilli oil look like ground black pepper?? We told her to try again she tutted and went off to finally return with a branded US supermarket flip top shaker of, yes, finally, ground black pepper. She plonked it on the table in disgust and walked off. We ate our pizza and chatted about the wonderful dining experience we were being treated to as we listened to a very noisy exercise class that was going on either above us or next door ( it sounded like something out of of a full contact Tekken fight contest was going on and we were trying to eat a pizza in the middle of it!!). After we finished, the bill arrived. When the Manager said to me, how was your meal I just had to tell him and .... it was one of the worst dining experiences we had had in a very long time - the service was terrible, the food, forgettable, the authentic Italian dining experience, laughable!! And to top it off when I told the Manager how bad his service was he said , well did she give you a menu, did she offer you drinks?? When we spoke about it to locals during conversation, we were told, yes it used to be good, but that was years ago now they are known for bad service and people that know it would never go there as there are so many other good restaurants near by including a recommended pizza restaurant just across the road in the Marina complex and there you can even watch the beautiful yachts whilst you eat!!!. Save your holiday spending money and go and eat somewhere else. Do not go to Key Largo unless it is just for a bit of sport or to see how bad the service can be.
I may not have written many reviews on this site but I know good service and tasty food and how this pizza restaurant can possibly have some of the 4 and 5 star reviews is quite beyond me - are these people sure they are talking about the same Key Largo restaurant??

With the ARC yacht race people arriving in town right about now - don't even think about visiting this restaurant as this business needs urgent staff training, better management and a good swift kick up the backside. Vote with your feet fellow diners and go somewhere else!

Thank you for your honest review. I'm very sorry to hear you had such a bad experience with us. Since the time of your review, our restaurant has undergone a lot of changes. We have a new chef, the owners' son, who has come back to run the restaurant after going to culinary school. He's just launched a new menu and we have more improvements planned. Hope you are able to come back and have a better experience one day. All the best to you, Sarah

“Great food and a good price”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

Lots of people have already reviewed this restaurant and I have very little to add. For fresh pizza and pasta, I don't think you could find better anywhere. Coupled with a great Saint Lucia setting, it was a lovely evening.

“Consistently Good”
Reviewed July 31, 2012 via mobile

We work in St Lucia and regularly visit Key Largo for our evening meals because a) the food is excellent whether we choose pizza or a pasta dish b) the prices are a welcome relief after paying tourist prices for mediocre meals and c) Val, Marie and Carlo are superb hosts. Even when we have been away for nearly a year we are greeted with huge smiles and a warm welcome. The pizza's are cooked in a real wood oven and the pasta dishes are varied and the salads are highly recommended especially my favourite Salad Nicoise. We return time and time again, what better recommendation.
