“terrible and dishonest”
Reviewed June 10, 2011

They charged me the EC$ amount as US$. I have informed Amex who will refund the difference.
Also they took ages to take the order and then after we had finished the starters they then told us they did not have the the main courses we had ordered. It wasn't as though the place was full. We were the only table at 7.30. ( I know, we should never have entered the place!) on a Saturday night. Some other people arrived after us and they then took their order first and the drinks we had ordered were delivered to their table not ours. We should have walked out then. Complete amateurs. Talk about Fawlty Towers!

“Very disappointing”
Reviewed April 28, 2011

I've used tripadvisor for many years but this is the first time i felt the need to comment in a negative way. We had a great meal here over 12 years ago and was very much looking forward to returning and hadn't checked the site for comments before we went. Decor was a little tired but ok, first issue was the wine we ordered was not available, but no big issue. Starters were ok, then an almighty row between the hostess and the chef could be heard and went on for 5 mins before the manager joined in - first time I've ever experienced the staff shouting at each other in obvious hearing of the diners. Main course eventually arrived and my king prawns were overcooked and bunt in places and my husbands snapper was certainly not fresh. When the chef came to check if we'd enjoyed the meal I told him
of the issues and he blamed the waitress for not collecting the plates soon enough... 20 mins later my brulle arrived with a thick crust on top which couldn't be broken by a spoon. We advised the manager of the problems and he offered a bottle of wine at our next meal - we finally settled on a 15% discount. It then took over 30 mins and 3 credit cards later to be told there credit card machine was not working. My husband has had to drive back tonight to pay the bill. All in all a dismal experience.

“The steak was to die for”
Reviewed April 19, 2011

We were the only ones in the resteraunt, which is absolutely beautiful, very romantic and would be super for a wedding. We took our teenage son with us though so the romance of having it all to ourselves was a bit lost on us the food was superb and there was a good choice of dishes, this is a top resteraunt on st lucia so was pricey so,therefore take plenty of money but if you are on a all inclusive holiday and want a bit of romance this is the place to go. They will come and pick you up from your hotel, and return you back when you have finished.

“The Best Conch Fritters on St. Lucia!”
Reviewed March 26, 2011

We had a lovely dinner at The Great House with attentive service all around. It's expensive, but we thought worth it. The steaks were delicious, the seafood Rasta pasta a hit, and the tuna was perfectly cooked. And of course the Conch Fritters were so good, we had to order a second batch! The wine by the glass options were limited, but certainly decent. If you are in the Cap Estates/Rodney Bay area, do stop by for an elegant lunch or dinner.

“Once Great, now dismal”
Reviewed February 26, 2011

First went to the Great House in Feb 2010 when owned and run by Almond, it was superb. Booked again from UK for Valentines dinner on 14th February 2011 and it is under new ownership and was just awful. The new owners run an executive taxi service on the Island and have no idea how to run a restaurant. Beautiful House ruined by poor, overpriced food, extremely unprofessional waitress service and a management representative who seemed to think a bottle of wine at our "next meal" that we would have to pay for, would redeem matters. Needless to say we never returned and never will do.

Upon arrival we weren't greeted, just left standing in a corner with another couple until our inattentive waitress was asked to deal with us. We'd been promised a table on the balcony and upon arrival the staff seemed to know nothing of our request and despite two empty tables on the balcony, flatly refused to accommodate our agreed request. The two tables outside remained empty all night.

The aptly named starter, "Titanic salad" was a plateful of peanuts, lettuce and tomatoes chopped and mashed together with cheap mayonnaise. This gave an indication of the "disasters" to follow. The main course was overcooked - the mahi mahi was dry and unappetising. The dessert really did top it all - a tiny stale biscuit, topped with half a strawberry that had seen better days, framed by (and I use that term loosely) a "heart" shape made with squirty cream. Absolutely shocking considering the price charged of EC$360 for two people.

Our waitress had no idea how to serve and clear a table. She even managed to bring out our main course before having cleared away our starter. Completely unprofessional how she held two plates in each hand before kicking open the kitchen door. Wonderful!!

The atmosphere, food and service back in 2010 was stunning, Almond Resorts really did let the Great House enchant you. This year, the new owners decided to secure the services of the Island's top love poet (who was a lovely man), but having poetry recited to you from the corner of the room, accompanied by a strumming guitar really wasn't conducive to creating a romantic atmosphere. You couldn't hear yourself speak if you were inside, so an intimate, romantic meal was out of the question when you had to yell at each other to talk. The overall feeling came across as a Eulogy at a sombre funeral service. I felt hugely sorry for the poet who agreed he didn't think the evening worked and he must've felt that this reflected badly on him.

Overall, what a massive disappointment. Beautiful house, terrible waitressing standards, food awful and a management team that think they're doing great. All in all - not good. Somewhere, unfortunately, where we'll never eat again, unless it falls into the hands of owners who know how to run a quality establishment.
