We have been to several 5 star resorts in the Carribean. Comparing Sandals to Secrets, Barcelo and Iberostar, I would give Sandals la Toc 5 stars for the dining experience, 5 stars for the beautiful, lush grounds and pools, 4 stars for the daily activities, 3 stars for the service, 3 stars for the rooms, 2 stars for the beach, 2 stars for the liquor quality and 2 stars for the evening entertainment.

Rooms: We stayed at the Sunset Bluff with a Butler. The Sunset Bluff have the most beautiful views, complete with your own pool, bar, restaurant, and lounge areas with firepits. The most beautiful rooms at the resort. The rooms are dated but very nice and big and clean, complete with your own bar, wine, vodka, rum and champagne! Our butlers Elsa and Ferna reserved our chairs everyday at the pool, or we wouldnt get a chair. Every day, they filled a cooler full of ice cold bottled Heiniken that we took to the pool. They would leave us surprises every evening, snacks, baths, etc. They even surprised us with a birthday party for our friend Chris. The Butlers are very well trained and other servers should learn from them. A butler room is highly recommended!

Grounds: Because the resort is older, the grounds, plants, trees and flowers are absolutely breathtaking and well maintained. The 3 pools are huge, clean and beautiful, surrounded with fountains and gardens. We didnt gain a pound because of all the walking up and down the hill. The resort is huge and you will get lots of exercise. There are regular shuttles if you get tired of walking.

Dining: All the restaurants in the evening were definately a 5 star experience. Excellent choice of food and service. We were always excited to try out all the restaurants. (Having a butler room is recommended as your butler will ensure that you have a reservation at any restaurant that you choose)

Bars: The service at the Pavillion was very poor, you had to go to the bar and get your own drink. The rum was a low grade Appleton, the vodka was either Absolute or Finlandia. We didn't mind this but we noticed that some people were not happy. With the price you pay at Sandals, they should offer a better variety of alcohol.

Evening entertainment: The playmakers work so hard to provide everyone with entertainment. But it is really up to "us" the vacationers to entertain each other with the Talent Show and Kaeoke. The bands are very talented. Sandals management could definately spend more $ on the evening entertainment!

Daily Activites: Again, the playmakers plan the daily games, so it is up to "us" to make it fun. We enjoyed pool/beach volleyball, and various beach/pool games.

Beach: The beach is a small brown sand beach with huge waves. Pictures on sandals.com are falsely advertised as a white sand beach. We still had fun swimming in the waves, on the yellow flag days. Be very careful as we watched some people being knocked over and needed help getting up. Lots of lost sunglasses.

Recommended day trip to take is the Joe Knows tour. We took a fast boat to see the Pitons, villages, snorkelled, swam in the Diamond Falls and had a Creole lunch. Our tour guide was Willy, he was so informative and so much fun. He made the trip worthwhile!

We would go back to Sandals la Toc! Overall the resort is very beautiful and the food is excellent!

We travelled in January this year with friends. Booked with our wonderful travel agent, Kelly of Kelly's Travel. We opted for a Butler Suite (room 890), our friends stayed in a Balcony Room. Our main butlers were Gilbert and Ronald, we also had Laban for a couple of days. The room was slightly tired but very clean and everything we needed was provided. The views from the room were lovely, although there was a little bit of noise from Armando's kitchen first thing in the morning. Gilbert and Ronald were excellent nothing was too much trouble, they reserved us beds by the pool at the Bluff everyday and supplied drinks (cool box) and brought snacks etc. they managed to get us fantastic restaurant reservations. We took breakfast at Armando's every morning, it was quieter but good choice available. My husband and friend played golf but unfortunately course was still quite wet after the bad storms, however they still had great fun and the caddies were brilliant. You must try the Funky Monkey from the pool bar at the Bluff! The piano bar was great fun in the evening, Lucas the barman - what a voice!! Special mention to Bianca in the Piton Restaurant who was so lovely and Jacintha (zone 3) who seemed to be permanently on duty! Our meals at La Toc were fantastic, we also loved Kimonos - well really we had fantastic food wherever we ate. We couldn't understand why they didn't have a Union Jack flying but have since been assured by Mr James the Resort Manager that this is being rectified.

We had a fantastic 10 days on this resort, the only real trip out was the Joe Knows, we had Snoop Dog, Big Al and Willie and they made it tremendous fun - worth doing.

The Staff on this resort were, without exception excellent. Gilbert and Ronald were outstanding I would highly recommend them - both had a great sense of humour but most of all their commitment to making our holiday the best it could be was outstanding. I was taken ill on a trip to the Grand and Ronald arranged for a Doctor to be at La Toc when we got back - where else could you get this?

Do the Casino Night, great fun and all for charity!

Wi Fi was not good up on the Bluff, but they are trying to sort it.

In summary we all had a really good holiday, incredibly relaxing. I would recommend having a Butler it's an experience that makes the holiday!

Thanks again to all the lovely staff.

The Resort is Beautiful! We had a wonderful week, even though it didn't start out that great. We were given a room and it was nothing like we saw on the pictures on the computer. But, with great determination we and our Butler "GEM" convinced the manager to find us another room. Once moved we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I would highly recommend the Butler service rooms, they supply you with a cell phone and you can call them regarding anything and they will take care of it, Dinner reservations, bring you room service, reserve pool chairs, book excursions, rides, unpack your suit cases, etc. plus decorate you bedroom and bath pretty on several nights. All of the staff was very friendly and would do anything to make your stay better. We can't say enough about our Butler "Gem", they seriously do not come any better than her, she is happy, sweet, friendly, attentive, hard working, she is just the "BEST". If I ever come back to this resort we will request her. She is Top Notch, She gets a "5 Star Rating" from us. She made our trip the best that it could be. The Food for the most part was very good, several restaurants were exceptional, and the Butler rooms have premium liquor in your room. You never have to worry about going hungry or having something to drink at this resort. If you decide to come here you won't be disappointed!

Room Tip: Butler rooms run a little more but a well worth it!

Went for our honeymoon in November 2013 and it was incredible. What an amazing resort!

CHECK-IN/ROOM
It was about a 50 minute drive from the Airport. We arrived around 8pm, waited about 30 or 40 minutes for our room. The room was amazing, honestly amazing. It had a private plunge pool which was pretty private. It also had a living room area with minibar (Heineken, Piton Beer and Vodka/Rye/Rum). The bathroom was great- huge, 2 person, stone shower! The Butlers (we had Sherman and Combie) took us in the room and talked to us a little bit about the resort. He popped a bottle of champagne for us and recommended the Steak Dinner at the Main pavilion for dinner, which was great! They also had room service which was great!

POOLS
There were 3 different pools, we stayed at the main pool mostly. Lots of great activities going on here with the Playmakers! The bar was awesome as well, lots of staff working at it, as well as someone taking drink orders around the pool. Our Butler would go down and reserve chairs for us in the morning, we would eat breakfast and head to our reserved spots. Some people discussed with us that they were always unable to find spots and wished they had chosen Butler service!

FOOD
The food was great! All the restaurants were incredible- such great food!! Our favourite was the French Restaurant, make reservations there a few times, you will not be disappointed! The Japanese Restaurant was awesome as well- great entertainment! The Butler service made reservations for us which was very helpful! We only had one disappointing service which was at Armando's, we had a young lady who was not very friendly (or helpful), as my husband asked 3 times (not exaggerating) for a beer. He finally gave up. But it really didn't affect our week at all.

BEACH
Its a public beach, so there are people that wander by and try to sell you stuff, but they don't really bother you. The ocean was beautiful and calm the whole time we were there!

BUTLERS
As mentioned, we had Sherman and Combie- they were great! They gave us a cell phone and we could call them for anything! They made our dinner reservations, booked excursions, took us around on a golf cart (its really hilly there, so you need to either have a Butler with golf cart or take the shuttle which is every few minutes around the resort). They also put little messages on our bed with flowers (such as "Fishing is Fun" after one of our excursions).

OVERALL
The resort is mostly filled with honeymooners and people celebrating anniversaries, so it was a great "feel" for us! I am already looking to return! It was well worth the money and the best vacation we've ever had :)

Room Tip: Hideaway Honeymoon with Plunge Pool is the best!

My husband and I stayed on this resort for the first half of our honeymoon. We opted for the Sunset Bluff Oceanview room, which included a butler. The room was very nice and clean, and the oceanview was gorgeous. The room also included liquor bottles, juices, sodas, and water. We were greeted by Tarra, one of our butlers (Tarra and Michelle; they were amazing!), and a champagne bottle was waiting for us when we arrived. The butlers really do go out of the way to make your stay special, from making us a bath after a 7-hour tour to reserving spots at the pool to delivering us our breakfast in the morning and setting it up on the veranda.

The food there was truly amazing. We have no complaints on any of the ones we've tried. We had lunch at Neptune's and the Pavilion (my least favorite, but still good). We also had dinner at Soy (the sushi was sooo good), Kimono's (hibachi), Armando's (Italian), and La Toc (French). All of the dinners were fantastic, but if I had to choose, I would choose La Toc as my favorite.

During our stay, we also tried the Red Lane Spa. It was a wonderful experience. I only really had one experience to compare it to, but this was definitely 100x better than the last one and well worth it. I would stay away from the mani/pedi services though; they were very overpriced.

I would also recommend the Joe Knows Tour. The guys were so nice and entertaining and the mud bath was a unique experience. You also get a chance to snorkel a little bit and I truly enjoyed it. Sandals will have a photographer follow you on the tour and take pictures, but try to take as many pictures as you can yourself, since the rights to the pictures are priced so high!

Overall, my honeymoon experience was great. The only minor cons I encountered were: 1) there was a mix-up on the schedule of the tour and spa services but that was quickly rectified. 2) there was a mix-up on the charges of the spa, but that too was quickly and easily fixed. 3) we had a bit of a wait to check-in to our room, but this wasn't a huge issue; we just had lunch at Neptune's as we waited. 4) although the room was great and the view was perfect, the room was a tad bit secluded and far from the main areas. This wasn't much of an issue since they do have shuttles back and forth. 5) the resort is an hour away from the airport and the roads are a bit windy

Room Tip: If you're OK being secluded, far from the crowds, and riding the shuttle, the Sunset Bluff is pe...

Just back from a week at LaToc.
First the pros : The grounds are very pretty. Workers, work non stop on the lawns, painting around the main areas...cleaning the pools early in mornings.
Not so goods. Food at all locations are hit and miss. Some days excellent others days really bad .Our Valentines dinner was disgusting. Really sad to walk out hungry. Mine was over cooked and my husband was under cooked.
The chair issues at the main pool is totally true. If you are not out there with towels and something personal by 6 am you won't be getting chairs. Butlers hog them all!!! Not fair we pay good money for our vacations as well. Not a fun way to start your vacay by getting up at that time!!!! We witnessed lots of fights over chairs between guests. So disgusting that the mangers don't care they know this is a very big problem.
The spa people drive you nuts trying to get you to book services. So much so they will wake you while your soaking up the sun. Really I am vacay let me rest. They are VERY annoying. Play makers try their best. But after a few days its lame. Same old, same old. Night life ,is hit and miss as well. Some nights pretty lame.
As for the cats on the grounds yep it's true. OMG not something I enjoy when eating having a cat come to my table.
Or walking around the restraunt. And staff feed them!!!!!!

Joes knows was a blast so worth every penny or shall I say 125.00 pp. they really show everyone a good time!!!

I feel sandals only cares about returning guests or butler guests. Which is sad as first time guests could be returning guests if they were treated the same.
We were there for our 30th anniversary and they did not make us feel any special!!
The rooms need updating big time. They don't clean very well there was a cracker on the floor the day we arrived until the day before we left. And it wasnt ours so who knows how ling it was there.Toothpaste not cleaned off the sink area. All sorts of things.
I don't think it's worth the money to go back there .... I have been to other locations where they make you feel sooo specials and are soooo friendly. Sandals doesn't do this for first time visitors .
So we just made the best of our time, sunning, water sports only one red flag day. And making new friends non sandals staff.
If your thinking of going herethink how you want to spend your hard earned money... You can go to Hawaii cheaper... Trust me we have and stayed at a class A hotel the Hyatt we care about all their guests!!!!

The facility is beautiful but service was less than expected. Nothing big, but a lot of little things which added up. Maid service forgotten one day, almost impossible to get a seat at the pool, unless you upgrade to their "butler service". We had to wake up early on our vacation to run down to the pool by 6:00 so we could throw a towel down to reserve a seat. Couldn't get reservations for their nicest restaurant "La Toc" even 4 days in advance....again probably due to "carve outs" for their butler service. No room service or internet....again only for butler service...felt like we were at the bottom of a caste system and this trip was no small $$$...Heard a lot of others there say the same thing.

Room Tip: Never go here without adding the butler service and even if you do, we still heard some guest compla...
