“Good Hotel. Great Food. Don't stay for the golf”
Reviewed December 26, 2013

After you get through the check-in mess that most guest have been posting about, it wasn;t a bad trip. Like so many others before us, we anticipated a check-in problem. The Sandals Corp. Office gave us a room upgrade and posted it on my reservation due to not honoring their Military Discount (since I already paid in full, they wouldn't refund the discount). When I checked in at Concierge, I got the expected run around that all upgraded rooms were not available. Not taking their word for it, I had to go through two other levels of management (that's how they introduced them) until Jeanette from the front desk honored our upgrade. We did have to stay in the original room one night though. Our traveling friends were also bumped out of their reserved rooms into another. They were told it was an upgrade, however the rooms were less expensive.

Now for some good: The hotel is a great property. The layout gives you so many different looks. It is well worth the $$ to upgrade OUT of the main building. The rooms there were clean and well appointed, except the beds were like concrete. The other buildings had very nice beds.
The main pool was very crowded. We were up on the bluff and used it a few times, but difficult finding chairs, even going down at 6:30am, as most are reserved by butlers. The middle pool was usually secluded. Now bar next to it, but a server makes the rounds there. All pools were very cold. No solar heating system used like most Caribbean resorts I have visited.

Food was fantastic!! Most All-Inclusive resorts give you good food, but theirs was exceptional in both taste and presentation. We sampled every restaurant. Advice: Order all courses and it's OK to double up on appetizers, etc. The portions are small, but delicious. Drinks were very good. Selection wasn't all top shelf, but better than a lot of AI resorts. If you're a beer drinker you have two choices: Heineken and Piton (local).

DON'T COME HERE JUST TO GOLF. My friends chose this resort because they were repeat Sandals vacationers and the "supposed" All-Inclusive Golf. I have golf around the world and at other A-I golf properties. The small course had a great layout. Challenging with tight fairways and a monster par5 uphill. The caddies were great guys. New the course and greens very well.
Gold is however, NOT ALL INCLUSIVE. They publish "no green fees", but you are charged a "caddie fee" of which doesn't go to the caddies (the work for tips). You pay for carts if you don't walk. We grabbed several beers from the cooler during our round, to learn later, beverages are not included. How do you have an All Inclusive Golf, when nothing is included???
If you want to golf on the island, you must golf St. Lucia Country Club. 30 min from La Toc and 5 min from Sandals Grand. Great layout of blind shots, doglegs, etc...

We also took an island tour. Originally we were going to take the Joe Knows Tour, but opted for one of the private taxis to take our group (6) for all day at $50pp (7 hours) and included everything the Joe Knows did, except we bought our own lunch at a small fishing village.

Room Tip: Do not stay in main building. You're already spending a lot, upgrade. Well worth it.

Great resort with excellent staff, service, and amenities. The rooms are wonderful, the restaurants are top-class; all round, this is just a breathtaking place to visit and unwind.
S.N - Make sure to take the Joe Knows tour.... Worth every penny :-)

It took a couple days to settle in. You have to drive 2 hours from the airport to the site and it is extremely beautiful (scenery wise) but of course you have to drive through a poverty ridden island which makes me feel guilty when we arrive to the resort offered champagne or rum punch and fresh towels when you step off the bus.

The resort has a break taking entrance. I suggest signing up for horse back riding and Joe knows tour (if you want to have a really good time and are not conservative! there is drinking involved in joe knows, only at your discretion) i wrote a trip advisor on joe knows earlier.

the horseback riding wasnt as crowded as i expected, it was just the two of us for the tour so it was a private little tour. it was awkward when we arrived at the beach because they stopped us at one little hut where they made you look at the items and made you feel obligated to by their crappy stuff but then they take the saddles off and let you go bareback in the water! the guide stays with you the whole time, walking you through the water. that made me feel a little better. He was a very knowledgeable guide and wanted to take many pictures for you when you got down to the beach. he gave our camera to the hut owner and he had him take all the pictures for us. we settle down at a bar for about 15 minutes while he saddled the horses back up.

The restaurants: the very first spot you must check out is the top pool/bar/restaurant Armandos. The most amazing sunset can be found there and the food is really great. It is a peaceful place and a quiet bar.

I would ask the staff to place you in 304/204/104 and below (302 etc). Because they have amazing ocean front views, is not far from the center of everything but far enough where you do not have to hear the party music all night long.

there are no screens on the doors, which is a common complaint because the powerful noise of the waves crashing is just incredible to hear. i wanted to keep the door open all the time but i got bit to hell and back.

they always re stock your fridge for free = great.

DO NOT GO TO THE SPA TO GET manicures or pedicures. I got one that was GOD AWFUL.
I rushed out of the spa because i needed to check out of our room, i realized after i washed my hands (i got gel, she told me to wash my hands when i got to the room) it looks like a 4 year old did my nails. My husband even noticed them and gave me the worst reaction - then he learned it was $75! i was so embarrassed. I am not confrontational but i told the front desk about this and she said i needed to confront the manicurist. I said that was embarrassing for me and so she called the spa assistant who wanted me to go back down to get them fixed by the lady that did it. so mortified, i said no, i had to catch our flight and she said the assistant manager can be the only one to determine if it was bad. i told her you had to be completely ignorant to not know how horrible it was. she didnt offer me a refund even when i spent over 500 at the spa that week! My facial was awful, the same one that did my nails, i almost cried when i saw she was the one that i had again. that was pretty much the only thing that was bad.

the room was sub par but we barely spent time in there because there was so much to do.

need to go to the grande if you want water sports or calm beaches. they are always closed at la toc, no big deal, its because of the location of the resort. la toc is for party, grande is a quieter beach location.

GOLF! spectacular views, muddy course (who cares), caddy was so sweet and hilarious. and made us so relaxed! no pressure, no problems! only $100 for the both of us, the cart and the caddy and he was sooo knowledgeable of golf, we played so well. Get joe!

Pool - always kept a drink in our hands, plenty of servers, many places to drink and lots and lots of piton!

all in all, we would come again!

Just got back from a week at LaToc. Overall a very relaxing week and Sandals delivered on most of our expectations.
It is a long ride on narrow twisting roads but once you have landed the beauty and views the resort offers will make the ride a distant memory
The grounds are magnificent as resort built on a hillside and which offer spectacular ocean views. We had previously stayed at Sandals Grande Riviera and would say the Sandals system does a very good job of ensuring the accomadations and service are consistent from resort to resort. We stayed in a 3rd floor room in main building overlooking pool and ocean and although room was older it had everything we needed
The negatives were:
1. the beach- red flagged all week and from listening to staff it is that way 80% of the time. We had 10-15 ft waves most of week
2. The golf course - very poor! Bad design as well as very poor condition. If this is your sole reason for picking this resort then reconsider.
3. Breakfast and lunch - very average at best.

The positives were:
1. The resort layout
2. The staff were very polite and outgoing
3. The suppers - all the restaurants at night served very good meals. Pitons and Armando's had excellent food and great service
4. Stay at 1 Play at 3 - we shuttled to the Grande twice (about 25 minutes) and the beach is outstanding. The lunch buffet was also better at the grande
5. Fitness centre was well equipped and air conditioned

It was our first time to St. Lucia and it is a picturesque island, but not sure I would pay the extra versus what we paid in Jamaica although being farther south the weather should be more consistent than Jamaica

Room Tip: Higher floors give better ocean views

We stayed at Grande St. Lucia, but went over to La Toc Golf resort to play the course. It is a 9 hole course, but you can play 18 holes and but you go to a different green on 2 holes if play 18. The scenery is amazing and awesome. it is beautiful and you can see the ocean from several tee boxes. The course was wet when we went because it was the rainy season -December, the caddy told us the dry time is more like January and February. The mountains on the course and the tropical trees make it quit good exercise, there are even multiple stairways to get to some of the tee boxes, but the view from the top is well worth it. The course is tight because of the trees on both sides of the fairway. It was one of the very best most fun things we did on our vacation and it is very reasonable priced for a Caribbean vacations resort golf round $50 US including the caddy (mandatory).

Room Tip: if you are staying in St. Lucia Sandals, stay at the Grande, it is nicer, the views are better and i...

We were last here 17 years ago. We had forgotten how beautiful the property was! The crashing waves, beautiful sunsets, and blue water, gorgeous! The staff could nit have been nicer. Our butler Tony was so friendly and everything was taken care of with a smile. We loved our relief butler Titus too! Amanda at the sunset pool bar was amazing serving fabulous drinks and smiles and Stephen always was there for us and showed us so some great dance moves! Mattis at Armando's was so friendly! Finally the manager at Pitons always greeted us with a hug! Can you tell we loved the staff! We would highly recommend this resort! Make sure to check out the sunset everyday!

This was our honeymoon trip....and it could not have been any better.Although the airlines lost my luggage in Orlando,it was a minor issue. The staff, the amenities, the atmosphere provided much relief. From the weather, to the food, to the service given to us by our fabulous butlers Marcus and Delia, it was perfect. The housekeeping staff even gets in on the service with little niceties! It was a busy week, we met alot of nice people from all over, ate and drank till our hearts content. We did not find one shop, or restaurant we did not like, and we consider ourselves foodies! The snorkeling and ziplining excursions were superb, the on resort street festival was excellent. If we can ever afford to go back,as this was a wedding gift, we certainly will.If you are an outgoing, optimistic , enthusiastic traveler, this place is for you.The others certainly stood out like a sore thumb.
Thank you Sandals, Marcus and Delia for making our Honeymoon.
Sincerely, The Walkinhoods.

Room Tip: Get the Butler service. Room service after the bars close is not so good. Karma is a.....so be goo...
