Owner description: Wander the scenic nature trails through the island's rain forests, which are bountiful in plants and wildlife.

The Millet nature trail is way up in the St Lucian Rainforest, but just a 6 mile drive up from the west coast road, from just close to the Rum Factory (worth a visit also !). Very knowledgeable young lady guide called Charmaine, who lives close to the reserve and took us all around with much information and also a lot of fun and laughs along the way. It is an up and down trail and quite strenuous at times, but worth it to see the rainforest close up, with many birds flying through the trees. Great to get away for the coast and see some pristine parts of the island, also glimpses of the real island way of life on the drive up the valley. One tip: entrance to the park is only $10 US, per person, trip organised with agent from hotel is $165 US per person !!! Go figure, get a taxi, or hire car like we had, or get seriously ripped of by the hotel and agents. Just phone up the Forestry people +1758-451-1691 and they will be very happy to book you in. ps: a hire car will save you a fortune !!
There is a shorter and much easier bird watching hike that ideally starts early morning and that involves sitting and watching for the birds for most of the 3 hours.

We like to do a bit of walking while on holiday, so decided to have a day away from the beach and see a bit of the rainforest. It was really quiet and we had booked this tour through our hotel rep and because there were no others interested on the day we had originally booked, it was re-arranged for a few days later.

They only usually run the tour if there are 4 or more people, but as we had already had it re-arranged they took just the two of us anyway. Storming Norman was a very good driver/guide talking us through all the sights we could see on the drive inland to the Millet trail.

On arrival we were handed over to a local and very knowledgeable guide for our one an a half hour hike. We saw lots of different birds and learnt about different trees/shrubs. The view of the dam and Mount Gimie was amazing and worth the steep climb.

Make sure you wear sensible shoes (walking shoes/trainers) and take insect repellent, shorts and t-shirt are fine to wear otherwise.

We really enjoyed the hike and journey there and back. It is worth a day away from the beach.

We like to get away from the beach for a day and go inland, hiking in natural areas. This is a new tour and we recommend it. Stormy Norman is a very knowledgeable and personable driver and the forest service guides know their stuff.

Not leisurely. Down, down, down to waterfall, Up, up, up to return. An amazing job of constructing the steps; well done.
