We had a wonderful time at Rendevous. The food was excellent and a wonderful variety of dishes. Our room was very nice it was actually on the beach so at night you could listen to the ocean as it put you to sleep. My wife and I renewed our vowels and that was a wonderful experience. The other couples were mostly European and my wife and I enjoyed that. We are from New York and wanted to enjoy a non-american vacation. All of the other couples were friendly and we met a great couple (David and Suzi) that we closed the Piano bar down with several nights. The entertainment was a little cheesy accept the limbo contest and the fire breathing. On our wedding night we had dinner in the Trystan Place Resturant and it was not all that great, my wife and I found that the buffet food was better. One thing I will say is that our air conditioner broke the day before our wedding and did not get fixed until the day of the wedding. That was very frustrating. Not to mention the service staff that they sent to fix it stood and stared at my wife the entire time until I had to ask them to leave and wait until we were not in the room. That was upseting. When your at a resort of this calibar you don't expect the staff to behave in this manner. The rest of the staff was really great so the incident with the service staff did out way the good time. If this is your first time comming to Saint Lucia I would definitely recommend staying at this resort. We also had the backdrop of the Saint Lucia jazz festival that made for such a wonderful trip. We are returning for Carnival in July!

We stayed at the Renedevous Resort in St Lucia from 3/17-3/24/2005 and it couldn't have been more perfect. The airport was close by so we didn't have to take a long taxi ride after leaving at 6:40 am that morning. We could have walked down the beach and found the resort if we did not have all of that luggage. We have stayed in all-inclusive resorts for the past five years and this was the best by far. The entertainment at night and the activities during the day were run by Deano, Gaston, Giselle, Jaime to name a few. They were there from the morning to the night and made the resort for us. The beach was beautiful with all of the water sports you could ever want.

We rented a car for two days and explored the island to the North and South. Yes, I drove on the left hand side of the road and this was not a problem even on the hair-pin turns for 27 miles to the South. The trip to the Pitons was well worth the ride. We went to the sister resort for the day and had lunch, took an aqua aerobics class, and tubed pulled by a speed boat.

Since the resort was small and there was not TV's in the room we meet a lot of nice people. Going into Castries on bikes was a great way to see the town and have Gaston or Deano as your guide. The market on Saturday is the day you should go to see how the locals live. All of the local people were nice and I would go back to St Lucia and stay at the Renedevous Resort in a minute.

The Rendezvous is a bit of a mixed bag really. We visited in Jan 2005 for our honeymoon.

We had a bad introduction to the hotel. When we arrived we were taken to our Luxury Oceanfront room by a member of staff who really didn't seem bothered about selling the place. He simply opened the door to the room and gave us the key. So for the first few minutes we were literally left in the dark. This did nothing for our first impressions and is something that should be addressed. However, once we had turned on the lights, opened the shutters and balcony it looked alot better. It is not luxury though and is only sold as being so by Virgin. In the resort they are simply Ocean Front Rooms which is a fairer description. The bathroom was a bit of a disgrace and was far from luxury although I am aware that there are refurbishments taking place so hopefully this is being resolved. I would recommend asking for a refurbed room. The Virgin Rep, Natascha, was great very cheery and gives a great welcome meeting.

I would also recommend trying to get a ground floor Ocean Front Room which gives direct access to the beach. The upstairs rooms have nice balconies but you do need walk around the houses a bit to get to the beach.

For an all inclusive the food in the restaurant was excellent with plenty of variety and within reason whatever you want at breakfast, lunch and dinner. We didn't feel the need to book the Trysting Place although other guests said it was nice.

The bar staff were also very good with special mention being made to Hamilton and Julian. They were very attentive and also very entertaining. A real asset to the Rendezvous.

The entertainment was standard stuff but delivered with great gusto by the Ents team and the evening entertainment was generally good.

The beach is ok and the flag service is great. It not for the snorkellers though as it is often a bit cloudy and when we were there a bit choppy. We experienced no problems with locals or the vendors on the beach. All the beaches are public and so I think it's a bit of a cheek for visitors to the Island to complain about the few locals who come to the beach at the weekend. It's their home and they are generally very charming and proud of their Island.

The aircraft noise passes virtually without notice a few times a day so we didn't think it was an issue at all. As for the graveyard....it's not some sinister Gothic fright zone. It's just a bunch of clean well looked after headstones....can't quite figure out what all the fuss is about !

The close proximity to Castries makes it easy to pop into town to have a look around. Also close to Point Seraphine ( the duty free shopping centre )
if you want to take advantage of the tax break and also the weaker US dollar and splash out a bit.

We only went on one excursion which was the trip to the Grenadines. It was excellent and although much more expensive than the other trips it wraps alot into one. The light aircraft flight ( 18 seater ) to Union Island was great for the experience and the views although perhaps not for the more nervous flyers. It was a short step from the Airport to the Catamaran which took us around the Islands, including the spectacular Tobago Cays which were great for snorkelling and one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. So much so that I think that will be our next holiday destination ( Sorry Rendezvous ). Well worth the money.

To put things into context this was our second visit to St Lucia. We had previously stayed at the Rex St Lucian which was nice. We have also been to Barbados & Antigua. All the islands are very different in terms of scenery and climate but the people have always been great.

All in all, apart from the over selling of the room by Virgin and the under selling of the room by the guy at reception it was a great place to stay.

and following on from a very bad view of Rendezvous, I would like to confirm a few things :-
There is no room service. The place is small and always serving food so there is no need to be lazy and pay someone to bring you food! Breakfast is served from 7.30am-10.30am, lunch from 12.30pm-2.30pm, afternoon tea from 4.30pm-6.30pm and evening meal from 7.30pm-9.30pm. Each night is a different theme, caribbean, sunday roast, international, chinese. There is also a restaurant called The Trysting Place which is A La Carte and the food is superb but this place must be booked if you want to eat there and you can dine between 7pm-9pm. Hot Dogs are put on at the pool bar from 12pm if you cannot wait until 12.30pm!
There are stray cats and a couple of dogs but if you don't encourage them to come to you, they won't bother you.
The locals are always passing on the beach but they generally stay around swimming and playing games with their families on sunday. None of the beachs in St Lucia are private so anyone and everyone has a right to walk on them. Do go for a walk along the beach, yes there is a cemetary and yes the George F L Charles airport is very near but do not let them put you off, the planes that go from there are small propellor ones and within seconds they are gone. Also, the whole resort including the beach is monitored quite heavily by security guards, this certainly doesn't mean that something may happen, it actually stops anything from occuring in the first place!
The staff are extremely laid back and friendly and will do almost anything to accomodate you, whatever it is you need.
Being a honeymooners destination, why would you want a TV???
We stayed in a Luxury Oceanfront room on the ground floor, there are only 2 other floors above you and I would definitely recommend a ground floor room if you can get it as you have a front and back door just like the other floors do but they only have a balcony with a hammock whereas on the ground floor you have two seperate seating areas and the back door leads you to the beach and I mean you are steps away from the beach.
Drinks are all included and that does include your premium brand drinks aswell as the local ones. The flag in the sand on the beach is great - if you get thirsty just stick your red flag in the sand and someone will come to take your order.
I can recommend doing the Sunset Cruise and the Tout Bagay catamaran trips - we both enjoyed these a great deal!
Virgin do the check and chill thing where you check in your bags and get your boarding passes at the hotel, they come to you around 11am and as if you were at the airport, you hand them your tickets and passports and they hand you your boarding cards.
We did the helicopter ride on our return journey to the airport, which took 12 minutes and it was a fantastic way to end our honeymoon.
The bad review of Rendezvous is not an accurate picture at all, please do not let it out you off going there.
I think I have covered everything that would seem important to other travellers but if there are any questions you want answered (which hopefully I can), please email me.

Kelly & Pete (12/4-26/4) xx

We have just returned from Rendezvous after getting married there last week. If you want to get married easily in a beautiful setting then this is the place for you. All the hard work is done by the wedding co-ordinators (thanks Sandra and Karen!) you just hand in your documents when you arrive then turn up on the day! The hotel itself is very relaxing and even though it was full while we were there it never felt overcrowded. The food was plentiful, varied and of high standard with chefs cooking some options to order. All drinks are included even premium brands and the cocktails were great. We had a oceanfront room which had fantastic views and was feet from the beach. The beach is public, as are all beaches in St Lucia, but the locals are friendly always smiling and saying hello as they pass by. There are only a few locals around during the week, there are more on a Sunday but it certainly isn't a problem and its good to see some local life.
The staff are fantastic, friendly and helpful. We chose two staff (Imi & Angie) to be our witnesses at the wedding. Special thanks to them, Deano, Ash, Steph, Jonathan & Finnbar. Take the helicopter transfer to the airport, only 10 minutes and with spectacular views. The day trip to the Grenadines is also fantastic. Marcel who sells necklaces and carvings at the hotel beachside every night is a friendly and interesting guy - worth talking to and he's not a pushy salesman - very laid back! We will be going back.

Absolutely appalling. Granted, my boyfriend and I are spoiled Americans. We specifically asked, when booking our vacation, if the resort had room service and were told they did. Turns out we had to beg (and generously tip) an employee to bring us a hot dog (the only food option outside of meal times). The food was terrible, my boyfriend got food poisoning from his raw lamb (which he ordered to be cooked medium well). stray cats were everywhere and one threw up next to our table during lunch. Native children were all over the beach, to the point where they outnumbered hotel guests. For a resort that was advertised as couples-only this was very disappointing. No TV. Tiny beach. Dont go for a walk...one direction there is a cemetary (how romantic) and the other is blocked by a barbed wire fence. The airport we flew into was 2 mintues away (and yes the noise was extremely disruptive). We didnt even last 24 hours. After hours of trying to find another hotel (as everything was booked during christmas vacation), we finally found room at the Royal St. Lucian. The Royal was fabulous- stay there! The Rendevouz is a disaster

My wife and I stayed at the Rendezvous for 2 weeks, late March and early 2005 for our Honemoon. We were very much guided by price and the Rendezvous suited our budget.

We stayed in the Garden View rooms which have recently been re-decorated and were in excellent condition, there was no seperate seating area in the room just a bedroom / dressing area leading to a balcony and bathroom. The rooms were air-conditioned and included a CD player. The maids were attentive and changed the towles everyday and bed linen 3 times a week, athough they made the bed and cleaned everyday.

Personally I didn't see much of a difference between the Garden View rooms and the Verandah Rooms, only a larger...well...verandah and the amount of time spent in the room I wouldn't have liked to pay the extra, they are also both in the same location. The other accomodation looked very good and is located on the beach and seemed in excellent order, probably worth the extra if you can stretch.

The food was superb, the buffet menu changed every night varying from English, Italian, Asian, French, Carribean and BBQ (both recommended). The wine is nothing to write home about but certainly palletable. The Trysting restaurant however is suberb the quality of the service, music and food was excellent. You can book up 3 evenings at a time but eat there any amount of time. There is also a wine list from $10 upwards there.

There are 3 bars, the poolside, main bar and Piano bar all provide a large range of top shelf label drinks.

There are many activities a day from Diving, Cricket, Volleyball to ring tossing. You can either go to the location (stated on a daily notice board) at the time or the staff sometimes walk around and ask if you want to join in you are very much left alone however.

The beach is excellent and there is a bouyed area for residents, the beach is public but extremly quiet, apart from Sunday where there must be as many as 20 people walk past! We were approched twice in 2 weeks to buy something (shells and palm weaves) and the vendors were very polite.

Ignore comments about the airport they are prop planes (5 - 10 a day) and mostly in the morning and late afternoon for the commuters, 20 secs and they are gone, also interesting to look at.

There is a shop in the resort and sells most things needed (medicines, camera film, clothes, shoes and food).

There were a number of weddings (2-3 a day)which seemed to go well and speaking to the married couples they said they were more than happy with the occasion.

We had no Carribean experience and wasn't let down, the Rendezvous exceeded our expectations and would certainly return if given the chance.
