“Lovely location, all-inclusive, great for couples!”
Reviewed December 24, 2012

We chose Rendezvous following a recommendation from friends and were not disappointed. We booked through Virgin Holidays as they were competitively priced, included the airport transfer and provided extra value including a discount at the spa. The journey from the airport is a little over an hour and the roads are quite steep and windy in places (beware if you get travel sick!). You can fly by helicopter (cost $155 USD pp) as there is a regional aiport almost next door to the hotel. On arrival we were greeted with a cool face towel and cocktail and our bags were taken to our room. The room was clean, spacious, neutrally-decorated, comfortable and the kingsize bed was fantastic! The bathroom was also clean, modern and there was always hot water. Ren shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and shower gel were all provided. Beach towels were provided and there were several towel exchanges around the resort so you could swap for clean ones. The staff were all polite, friendly and genuinely did their best to help. The daily list of activities was written on a chalk board the night before and was extensive - we did pilates, yoga, tai chi and archery but there was something for everyone. However for those who just wanted to relax, there were always plenty of sunbeds around the pools or on the beach, despite the usual contingent who feel the need to reserve them with a towel at dawn. The three pools were clean and well-maintained. Our favourite was the lazy river with it's pools and secluded terraces with sunbeds and loungers for couples. No matter whether you stayed around the pool or on the beach, there was frequent delivery of cocktails or any drink you requested. The beach was very clean and relatively empty despite being a public beach. The security guards maintain a low profile but maintain a watchful eye. There were only one or two traders on the beach and they were certainly not aggressive about selling their products.
The gardens are lovely and obviously well-maintained. There are two tennis courts and raquets and balls are provided. The air-conditioned gym is well-equipped and the list of water sports activities pretty extensive. We enjoyed the buffet style food and there was plenty of choice at every meal including local dishes. Each night had a different theme and this only added to our enjoyment. We booked one evening meal at the Trysting restaurant and enjoyed the more formal atmosphere and silver service very much.
We enjoyed a relaxing treatment at the spa and would recommend one of the long list of options to those thinking about booking a treat. A price list is provided in your hotel room.
There were only about 6-7 aircraft departing daily from the nearby airport and most of those were light aircraft so really not any nuisance. Likewise, the occupants of the graveyard next door were nice and quiet!
We had a garden room but it looks like the beach front rooms were the best option. The tree frogs at night are certainly vocal but didn't disturb us. Remember to cover your drinks with your napkin when you go up to the buffet otherwise the local bird population will help themselves!
Our only slight criticism was the housekeeping service was a bit patchy. The room was supposed to be serviced between 12pm and 3pm daily but during our week long stay, it was serviced after 3pm on 2 days and before 12pm on 2 days (when we felt obliged to vacate the room for the maid). Also the degree of cleaning was inconsistent - we didn't receive replacement water one day and no new toiletries another day. The towels were replaced daily - we felt it would have been more enivironmentally friendly to have been given the option to re-use them.
We spent most of our time in the resort or on the beach. However if you wish to venture into town to visit the market, marina or duty free shops, it is about half an hours walk (pavement most of the way). Head out of the hotel and up to the roundabout, take the first right (not the road between the airport and graveyard!) and simply follow the road round and over the bridge. The market is a little further around the edge of the port on the left hand side.
Finally, we were recommended to take EC dollars but all the prices at the hotel and spa were in USD and the market and shops accept both.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would go back.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a beach front room if you can afford to do so.

If I had to review the resort, itself, I'd say it did its job: we came home utterly relaxed and enchanted by the dedicated staff who work here. The meals were delicious, and our servers became like old friends after just a day or two; they were genuine, warm and caring about our happiness. They are to be highly commended for their professionalism, warmth and capabilities. Special kudos to Candice Lizzy, Alison (terrace service); and Cato (terrace bar service)

For beach lovers like us, we are mixed in our review: one of the reasons we chose this resort was because of its child-free status. Be aware that the beaches throughout St. Lucia are all public. There are NO private beaches. This means that (especially on Sunday - family day) there is a large influx of locals to this resort - playing soccer, smoking pot, blaring radios, yelling, (publically urinating - in one shocking instance!) along with the regulars trying to sell you a carvings made out of coconuts, etc. When we addressed our dismay to the ever-present "security" (in name only) the response we got was not satisfactory:

"If we tell them to keep it down, or to move down the beach, they will be mad at us, and then we will have to deal with it another day. Better to say nothing, no?" (I have attached photos, of not only the lovely experiences and views, but also of this experience with the local visitors).

So, for anyone who looks forward to Sunday peace at the beach, better to wander up to the pool areas where everyone else is in a quiet, vacation state of mind.

The room we stayed in was an ocean-front cottage (last one down the beach) which, on the surface, was quite what we wanted - however, the (bored) security guard would constantly come over to chat with us - we found this a bit too intrusive, and after a while, I was led to feel almost rude by ignoring his greetings (and requests for drinks for himself (!), just not appropriate).

Unfortunately, there was also some litter along the beach, and I had to ask property workers to remove a car tire, along with other detritus (plastic detergent containers, water bottles, etc..) This beach is beautiful when clean, the water is a balmy 80+ degrees; water sports options were abundant, and free. We kayaked to Rat Island, used the hobycat, and enjoyed all of the other amenities with great enthusiasm.

There are other wonderful activities that one can arrange through the resort - we opted to take a day trip to the Pitons, and hiked up Gros Piton. This is NOT a beginner's climb, and I would not recommend this to anyone who does not regularly work out, as it is a steep 2600 foot ascent to the top. We enjoyed the day, but we did not get enough details from the hotel staff member to be prepared for what we needed to bring along. The tour states a 'light' breakfast comes with the day, along with lunch at the completion of the tour. A light breakfast included one Johnny cake and the local cocoa tea. NOT enough for folks who intend to be hiking for the next several hours. The only reason I mention this is so that the hotel will better prepare its attendees to bring along extra food for the trip.

St. Lucia is an island of extraordinarily warm, tourist-focused residents, and for that, I am grateful for our wonderful experience. I have many fond memories of this resort, and have debated if it is a place I would return to. To conclude, I am not sure, because of our beach experience.

Room Tip: If you stay in one of the ocean suite cottages (yellow), they are older, and have a bit of a dank mu...

We had always stayed at the St James Club in Antigua and fancied a change several friends have stayed at the Rendezvous and said it was fantastic, so we spoke to Richard at "Just Caribbean" who booked us a ground floor beach front room recognised to be the ones to be in (and I agree)
Walk out of the bedroom with its 4 poster bed passed your hammock and onto the white sands that extend 2 miles dotted with sun beds, loungers, palm trees and individual sun shades.
The main restaurant is open sided and overlooks the sea and food is buffet style and excellent in choice and quality, we did prefer the Trysting for dinners and Harry really looked after us, unusually I had a tough steak one night, he whipped it away and replaced it with a large plate of battered shrimp (we call king prawns !) I,recognise silver service and fantastic service is not everyone's choice, but it was never empty.
Carolyn enjoys lying on the beach reading whilst I enjoy the activities, being a keen sailor, the Hobbies were a slight disappointment a fleet of three (1 broken) the other two in Dior need of maintenance, I would recommend new main sheets, service the jam cleats, anti slip,on the rudder bars and new rudders on two boats, the water sport staff were beyond reproach friendly and very helpful and the sailing area was great in the blustery breeze up to Rat Island through the surf..great !
Water skiing was always available. I missed out on the scuba diving which was very popular as was the archery, cricket, volley ball, tennis and other beach games, never a quiet moment unless you wanted just to lie on the beach and be served countless rum punches !
We were a little, unlucky with the weather it rained buckets and the day we chose to do the land and sea trip to the Pitons, volcano, mud baths, rain forest etc was no exception ! We were assured the open backed Land Rovers had good rain protection, what the tour company neglected to say the roof was full of holes ! Wet is an understatement, luckily the sun came out for the trip back on the cat, stoping off for snorkelling and swimming.
We hired a car for 2 days and drove up to the the Body Sport Hotel sister hotel to ours, it was amazing and well worth visiting and eating and using the facilities at no cost (the hobbies were in better condition and more of them) We then drove to Rodney Bay meeting up with the first of the ARC yachts that had just raced across the Atlantic, the beach and shopping Mall is well worth a visit also.
So all in all it is a great Hotel Run very well, food is good, staff are amazing and the gardens are as good as Kew Gardens, well worth a visit bear in mind it is a couples Hotel no singles or children.
So see you there next year lets he there is less rain. Oh don't bother with the extra cost of the chopper the drive in the air conditioned mini bus shows you the Island at ground level ,

Room Tip: Beach front without a doubt, but get your towels out early !

A couple of friends, and my husband and I stayed at Rendezvous for 9 nights in November this year.
We all decided to take the helicopter from the airport so we could make the most of our time away. It’s so much quicker than the van/bus transfer with the flight only taking approx 10 mins as opposed to over an hour in the hot van on bumpy roads. The helicopter pilot was fantastic, telling us about and pointing out all the places of interest we flew over.

When we arrived at Rendezvous, we were taken to reception where we sat looking out at the fantastic view of the beach. We were given a delicious (non-alcoholic) cocktail which was so refreshing in the heat, as well as cold face towels to freshen up whilst they sorted our documents and rooms. Our friends had requested (months before our visit) not to have a room on the ground floor - sadly that is what they were given and despite asking, the hotel didn't have any other room available not on the ground floor).

After much research on TripAdvisor, we had decided to go for a luxury beach front room. I’m so glad we did! The rooms have been beautifully done, and I understand that these rooms have only recently been refurbished, so they were beautiful, clean and new. The bed was huge and incredibly comfortable – heavenly! The bathroom was spacious, clean and light and they provided everything you would need. Lots of fresh towels, really good toiletries (REN products which are very good quality), cotton wool balls and buds as well as a vanity table and stool. Perfect. We stayed in room 343 (top floor so a bit of a hike up the stairs in the heat!) and it was in a great spot. We had a lovely view of the beach and views which we were able to take advantage of from the little balcony with lounger and hammock, as well as being able to lie in bed and look out onto the stunning views. The room was really quiet and peaceful (apart from the frogs at night) but as I had researched I did take my ear plugs as I’m a light sleeper. They didn’t bother me at all thankfully! It actually becomes quite comforting. The storage was good, lots of draw, hanging and cupboard space which is not always the case. The safe was easy to use, and we kept all valuables in there just in case, even though the resort feels incredibly safe and secure.

The food, we all thought, was great. Not Michelin quality of course, but very good. It’s buffet style, so there’s always something for everyone (even for fussy eaters). The choice is vast, even at breakfast where you can have eggs (cooked anyway you wish by the most amazing lady Veronica), several types of bread (gluten free etc), cake and pastries, at least 6 types of fresh fruit, cereal, cooked breakfasts and cold dishes too such as ham, cheeses etc. The choice was great and the quality is good considering the scale they are cooking on. It is not top top quality as I’ve said, but you get what you pay for. They put on delicious dishes of fresh fish, chicken, etc for all meals which is really good and the different cuisines and themes each night is so good and really keeps it from becoming samey. The staff are all incredibly friendly and helpful (apart from on reception where we found them to be rather rude and not helpful), and they keep your water and coffee etc topped up constantly. We dined at the Trysting restaurant one night which we were glad to have done. It’s a nice change from the buffet and even though you’re inside (with air con), the décor is very dated and quite old fashioned, it was a really nice evening. The guitarist was very good and it is a small restaurant so it’s quite intimate which again is a nice change. The food and service was great too – it’s a must if you are on the all-inclusive. However, if we had not been on the AI deal, then I don’t think we would have paid the extra to eat there. Within the deal we were also able to eat at the restaurant at Tao restaurant at the hotel LeSport which is about twenty minutes away in a cab. Wow. It’s a great restaurant and the food is fantastic. Really worth going to one night if you can. We were all really impressed by the hotel and the food. We had a drink in the bar there too and it’s beautiful and modern, but I’m not sure you could feel as relaxed there as at The Rendezvous – it also feels a lot bigger, a bit more commercial and not as personal.

The sports and entertainment staff were so fantastic and great fun. I didn’t find them pushy when trying to get people to join in with the daily activities such as ring tossing, volleyball, archery, aqua aerobics and the rest – you can join in as much or as little as you wish which is nice. The fun, friendly and relaxed atmosphere is really kept up by the staff. In particular I have to name a couple who were so fantastic – they are Deano, Josie and Pauline. Such lovely people and great advocates for this resort and have worked there for many years so are pretty clued up.

The pool with the swim up bar is a little dated but it’s great. The sunbeds around that pool and on the beach next to it are old and really need to be replaced, but that’s one of the only complaints for this resort. The spa pool is more modern, really beautiful and incredibly relaxing! There is also waiter service for drinks throughout the day (as with the beach too). Total bliss! The lazy river is a must too – so quiet and private. On the beach they give you a flag to put up for when you want a drink, so you don’t even need to move. Perfect. We had a few days at both the spa pool and at the beach outside the luxury beach front rooms which we found to be the best place. The beach beds are great as are the umbrellas/shades, and although it was busier than the spa pool, it was always relaxing and never felt crowded (as with the resort as a whole). You do get the occasional group of locals wondering by, but all beaches are public there so you will get that anywhere on St Lucia. The sea tends to be churned up by the waves so it doesn’t look too clean, but if you go further out it’s beautiful, clean and clear.
We enquired about having the water sports team take us out on a boat trip for a few hours one day, so we could do some snorkelling and sightseeing, and they were so accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. We wanted to go down to Marigot Bay to have a little look around, as well as to go snorkelling at The Pitons and to see a bit more of the island, and they said it was no problem at all. We were taken out one afternoon by a couple of the guys, and they were so brilliant. They showed us the places down the island, explained some of the history etc and we loved it. They also supplied us with champagne, cold beers and water for our little trip which just made it really special. The snorkelling at The Pitons was great because one the hotels there has its own designated snorkelling area so you felt safe and were never too far away from the boat. We saw sea snakes and of course lots of beautiful fish.

The entertainment we got to see/hear was great and the pianist in the champagne bar was so brilliant - a quick drink in there before dinner each night was really lovely. The bands and entertainment were also fun to watch and relax to each night.

The local airport is just at the end of the beach which means you get the odd small aircraft taking off over the resort. This really isn’t as big a problem as some have made it out to be. They are small planes and aren’t too noisy. You may get two or three a day at most.
All in all, it was a wonderful holiday and just what we needed. Some areas of the resort are a little dated and perhaps needs a little bit of redecoration but despite that, it's incredibly friendly, very relaxing, warm and fun. We would definitely go back and look forward to it.

Room Tip: Luxury beach front rooms are ideal if you like a view of the sea, peace and quiet as well as being c...

Ralph18, Somerset,
On our return from the Rendezvous we felt we had to write to Yasmine, the General Manager, to thank her and her team. In our letter we said: "Before getting too wrapped up in preparations for Christmas, we wanted to express our thanks to you and the wonderful staff at the Rendezvous for helping us enjoy such a great three weeks in St.Lucia. This was our first visit but is unlikely to be our last. We have been lucky enough to have stayed in some very sophisticated and elegant hotels in many different parts of the world. None however have matched the overall attractiveness of the Rendezvous. This is due, we are sure, to your management style, and to the outstanding facilities and welcoming attitude of the staff."

Room Tip: Go for a Verandah Suite if you can

We are a couple in our late 40,s mid 50s and we have just returned from our honeymoon at The Rendezvous hotel St, Lucia.
We flew BA and landed mid afternoon, good flight no problems, we had opted for the helicopter transfer to the hotel and we were not disappointed.
Ten minutes after leaving arrivals we were on the helicopter flying over the island, it was fantastic and one of the highlights of our trip.
On arrival at the hotel we had a warm welcome with cold towels and a non alcoholic drink and then shown to our room.
Our luggage didn,t arrive for another couple of hours so it would be a good idea to take some shorts, t shirts etc in your hand luggage so you can relax better whilst waiting for it.
We stayed in a luxury beach front room on the 1st floor No 243. lovely room and balcony with a good view of the beach and pergola where most of the weddings took place.
Watching someone getting married from your balcony whilst you are in your dressing gowns drinking champagne is quite a surreal experience.
On our first morning we had two welcome meetings, the hotels and then Kuonis, which took up the morning and we were glad to get on the beach and relax afterwards.
Decided that as we were only there for a week we would not do too many trips so opted for the conveniently late cruise, (Through Kuoni), a couple of massages, and the scuba try dive.
The cruise was great. plenty of Rum punch and info from Hyacinth our tour guide as we traveled down the coast to Soufriere where we went ashore to get the choice of a guided tour of the volcano or a visit to the volcanic mud baths, decided on the mud baths and had a great laugh, top tip, don,t wear your best cossies. A visit to a local cocoa plantation, botanical gardens and mineral baths and then back to the boat for the return journey at sunset to The Rendezvous.( Great Fun day).
We had the couples massage which was great and the try dive was also good fun with the instructors being very patient and professional. Didn,t get too see too many fish etc and in fact saw much more when snorkeling in the Maldives, but still enjoyed the experience and would recommend it to any one wanting to have a go for the first time.
The Rendezvous is a lovely hotel with the staff being very friendly and helpful, the food was also very good however I did not see the point of the trysting place which served the A La carte menu and for which you had to book. Although the food we had was good I would rather have eaten it in the open listening to the waves breaking onto the shore not in a small dubiously decorated room listening to some chap playing a guitar. Most of the people we spoke to at the hotel said it was nice but not that special.
Things to remember were
Our morning walks along the beach, don,t worry about the cemetery, the evening sunsets, a walk into Castries just to bring you back to reality, Strawberry daiquiris (Eh ! James) , stepping into the 100 deg plunge pool at the mud baths, the hammock on the beach and most importantly being left alone to relax and enjoy doing nothing.
Things to forget were
Watching some very sad people getting up at 6.30 in the morning to put there towels onto the sun loungers, sad to say they included English people.
There are so many places to relax at the Rendezvous with the two pools and large beach area that we never had trouble finding a place.
BA return flight cancelled and subsequent 27 hr delay, though no fault of the hotels.
Would we go back, possibly, maybe for our 10th wedding anniversary.

Room Tip: If we went back we would not pay the extra for the Beach Front rooms again with the garden rooms bei...

The food was fantastic both in the buffet restaurant and the trysting place, there was even a beach party where the amazing entertainment staff were fire eating and limbo'ing under a flaming pole. The entertainment staff couldn't do enough for you and Josie, Joanne, dean and Webster were great and really helped make our time even more special there were plenty of activities if you wanted them from Batchy ball! , to archery and sailing all with full tuition, just a mention for the scuba center staff who were fantastic and so helpful to two complete novices! All the bar and waiting staff were exceptional especially, Carmen, Francis, Eric, Ian, Cookie, Kato and Sean and Gilbert the pianist in the champagne bar And last but certainly not least a huge thank you to Clavi who went above and beyond to make us happy and even arranged for a decorated limbo pole for us after our wedding, great photos!!,the pools are great and the beach is beautiful, we are already saving to return . Don't let any poor reviews put you off we met friends for life and were more relaxed than we have ever been, some people will moan about anything but we can't find a single thing to dislike, love to all at rendezvous Dionne and Bryan x
