Looking on a map this resort may have you questioning it's location. Don't. This magnificent boutique hotel, with a 150 yr. old Suman tree at it's centre, surrounded by lush gardens that lead you to a long sandy cove of soft golden sand and turquoise surf, will win you over. With a charm of it's own, Rendezvous offers everything that it's overblown competitors do without the in your face attitude. We were made to feel like friends come to visit. The service is warm, attentive and gracious. This is the place for total relaxation or active fun - your choice. The food and drink are bountiful, with many dishes particularly scrumptious. The nightly entertainment was served up with a good dose of frivolity and humor - especially the night the staff put on a show.

Before I begin the review I should mention that this is our seventh trip to the caribbean, and we were actually married in Freeport, Bahamas 3 years ago this week. With that said, we have a certain expectation of a caribbean experience and are always very pleased with our vacations.

After researching several resorts in St. Lucia, we decided on the Rendezvous. The resort seemed to have excellent reviews overall. There were a few sticking points in the tripadvisor reviews which we were aware of in advance, and should be noted. For some people this may not be a big deal, but it certainly put a damper on our trip. The three main disappointments were as follows:
1-There is an airport located directly next to the resort. If you are on the beach you will get a close-up view of airplanes taking off right over your head on the average of twice per hour. If you are in your room, you will hear the airplanes as early as 8am, and as late as 10pm. The noise level is fairly loud considering they are full size commercial jets, and they are less than 200 yards over your head.
2-If you and your spouse decide to take a walk along the beach you will notice that there is a huge cemetery at one end of the beach. I don't believe it is on the hotel property, however due to the fact that the beaches are public (which I will elaborate on later), you simply walk into the cemetery at the end of the beach.
3-There are no televisions in the room. In addition to the previous two concerns, we were quite aware of this in advance. We figured not a big deal since we did read in some of the reviews that there is plenty of nightlife at the resort. A week without television isn't the worst thing in the world. And it wasnt....Just the first hotel we've ever stayed at without a TV. Sometimes you just want to relax in bed at night and watch some TV and I feel the hotel should at least have a few available upon request.

About the Rendezvous Resort......

It is an all inclusive resort including all food, beverage, activities, and some water sports. My wife and I are not big on all-inclusive resorts however we figured we would try it out. The quality of the food was fairly good so nothing negative to say about that. Something we were quite surprised about was the fact that there was very little, if any, caribbean food. We were expecting to have some local fish and produce often, if not daily, and that was not the case. There was the option of eating at either an indoor restaurant (with reservations only), or the buffet which was outside. We dined at the restaurant the second night we were there, and decided on the buffet for the remainder of the trip primarily because we were able to eat outdoors and enjoy the spectacular view. There was only one buffet area on property, so that was where everyone staying at the resort would congregate for every meal. In regards to the liquor they claim to have topshelf liquor and all depending on what you consider topshelf that may/may not be the case. Their topshelf vodka was Absolut which I don't consider the best. The did have Bacardi, Dewars, Canadian Club, and Johnnie Walker Red Label so there were name brands there for sure. I would say the liquor is topshelf, however not topshelf "premium" which to me includes brands like Belvedere, Grey Goose, Johnnie Walker Black Label, etc...

Entertainment and activities....During the day there were plenty of activities scheduled throughout the day to keep you busy. Some of these activities included archery, yoga, pilates, water aerobics, etc...In the evening there was nightly entertainment which included live piano, and a live band on most nights. The band usually finished up by 11pm and then the piano took over. My wife and I are in our thirties, so to travel to the caribbean to shoot a bow and arrow during the day, and dance to love music at night wasn't quite what we had expected. Our preference would be to relax at the beach during the day with some cocktails, and go out at night to a club dancing or casino to play craps. After realizing that the nightlife at the hotel wasn't going to satisfy us, we were off to Rodney Bay after dinner for some excitement. It's about a 10 minute, $20US cab ride so not too bad. Once we got there we were able to find the casino relatively easy since its in a new shopping mall. The only problem was that there was only a handful of people inside playing blackjack. It was empty. We tried to find some action outside of the casino, and that got even worse. Once you exit the casino there are security guards located around the perimeter of the mall which is comforting but strange at the same token. After a few minutes of walking around looking for a night club to dance, we decided the safer option was to get a taxi back to the resort. About 20 minutes later, and after about 5 mystery buses that claimed to be taxi's offered to take us back, we were able to get a ride from a mall employee that seemed trustworthy. He did charge us the same $20US fare that we paid going to Rodney Bay and we eventually did make it back in time for some live piano music. That was our last evening venture off the property.

The beaches were beautiful. They were very well manicured and the water was nice with some small waves which were fun to swim into. Since all St Lucia's beaches are public and not private there are locals walking along all day long. Most of the locals are very friendly and keep to themselves. Of course you have a handful that try to sell you jewelry and such but it wasn't too bad. There was one instance when a local tied his dog up to a sign and went in the ocean. The poor dog was left there with a noose around his neck in the smoldering sun while his owner was swimming. The dog must have been is some pain because he was barking and crying so loud for about 20 minutes. Finally one of the hotel guests confronted the gentleman and asked him to relocate because he was bothering several of the guests. There were some words exchanged and he did eventually take his dog and move on. These are things that will happen on a public beach so I would like to make it clear that it is not the hotels fault. However if it was my hotel I would have a hotel representative strolling the beach during key hours in order to prevent something like this happening. The confrontation between the hotel guest and the gentleman with the dog may not have ended so peacefully. You just never know. There were also at least 2 decent sized pools on property, as well as, a very small private pool tucked away in the gardens. Two things that I want to mention about the pool and beach area that I wasn't thrilled with were:
1-If you were lucky enough to find a towel by the pool then great. If not, then you had to walk to the far end of the hotel property where the watersports activity center was. Not a big deal but there is no reason why they shouldn't have had towels readily available at both pools.
2-If you didn't claim your spot at the beach or pool by 8:30am then good luck. We didn't even get to breakfast until 9:30 so it was a bit complicated to find a decent spot at either the beach or the pool. We were fortunate to luck out a couple of times by chance. Guests would tend to leave their used towels and empty glasses by the beach chairs and pool chairs for hours so it was difficult to tell if they were still there. A good idea would be to have a hotel employee monitor that. If they notice there is an unoccupied set of chairs for an extended period of time the used towels and empty glasses should be removed so other guests could enjoy. On one occasion my wife and I moved the towels and empty glasses after noticing that no one had used the chairs in over an hour.

The rooms were nice. They were certainly clean and decent size. We decided to go for a luxury oceanfront suite. The view was fabulous. The room definitely needed some updating. From what I heard the room we stayed in was recently updated but I couldn't see how that was possible. We did have a balcony in our room which was not private at all. The balcony from our room actually touched the balcony from the next room with no screen or partition which was strange. It was almost like you were hanging out with the people from the next room if they happened to be outside at the same time. The room did have the basic amenities including safe, ironing board, hair dryer, etc. The air conditioning worked but not great. It may have been a little warm due to the fact that we had the top floor but who knows. My wife was disappointed with the shower lotions. The liquid shampoo and soap were both of poor quality. Not a big deal for me but she had expected nicer bath products. Lastly once you left the room there was a terrible odor which was so bad you needed to cover your nose. Some days it was worse than others. We finally figured out that the odor was coming from the garbage disposal located right next to the rooms. The do try to block the view of the garbage with some lattice but you can see if you try. I'm not sure if all of the rooms have that problem but our room #344 sure did.

So in summary we did enjoy our trip to St Lucia and our stay at the Rendezvous Resort overall. We were disappointed with certain things about the resort due to our expectations. I feel that if we were in our 50's or 60's we would have appreciated our stay much more than we did. That seemed to be the average age group at the resort. In addition the resort is owned by a British family, and the majority of the guests seem to be British. I am not saying that there is anything wrong with that, but in a strange way we almost felt like we didn't belong. There were a few employees which were excellent, and i would like to thank Karen in particular. Not only was she helpful via email prior to our arrival, but she helped arrange a few things for us while we were there. She even went out of her way to find us on our anniversary which was this past wednesday to wish us a happy anniversary. On another note we did feel that some other employees weren't so friendly which put a damper on things. You shouldn't have to feel like you are bothering someone when asking for a drink. I'm not sure if it was because of the NO-TIPPING policy, but it seemed like some of the bartenders and cocktail servers had an attitude.

I should also mention that on Thursday nights they do have a "Beach Barbeque" with a steel drum band, fire dancers and stilt walkers. It was actually the only night that we truly enjoyed ourselves so make sure you try to schedule your trip accordingly. I believe they have this party every Thursday night and it was excellent. Its too bad its only one night a week.

There were other things that we did outside of the resort which I am not going to include in detail in this review. The only thing that I will mention is that we found a great driver from a tripadvisor member who was a godsend. His name is Andy and he has a new BMW X5, and he will take you wherever you want. You can message me for his information if you like. We used him to take us back and forth to the airport, as well as an island tour.

lots already said in these reviews, so i will try not to repeat. Lovely hotel, nicely spread out, much bigger than their website implies (not sure it's 'boutique') - we stayed in a seaside suite which was a great price / quality balance. The room was lovely, a few broken / scruffy bits though particularly in the bathroom (hence my comment about 4, not 5 star).

Food was good and they did the different themed evening well, there was clearly reuse of food (last night's chicken bbq was todays chicken in sauce), but it never felt over-cooked or particularly left over. Word of warning if you want to book the 'posh' restaurant - we left it until about four days before we left and they didnt have availability until we had gone, hence, do this early in your stay. That said, the main restaurant felt nicer as you had the lovely sea-view and it was open - the posh one had no windows - you could be anywhere.

The activities and entertainment : this hotel is a curious mix - it sells itself as a kind of boutique hotel for luuved up couples, however it was somewhat 'Hi-de-hi' (1950's holiday-camp with everyone should attend entertainment for our non-UK readers) where there are lots of communal activities that you are constantly being asked to join in. Whilst they do say 'it's up to you, its your holiday', there is clearly some feeling that you should join in at some point ("join us for archery lessons/hula/classical music hour on the terrace") as we had a comment from one of the staff that we hadnt joined in once in the time we were here. Also, the volleyball court (which was quite entertaining to watch when the super-fit staff always beat the sun-burnt holiday makers) was right in the middle of one of the sunbathing areas which meant balls were landing on people trying to read / sunbathe and at very least it was noisey for up to 2 hours a day.

It also wound up my other half (female) in that the activities were very gender specific - women could join in the volleyball for instance if they decided to, but they certainly werent asked - it was very much seen as a bloke thing (similar sort of thing if my wife ordered wine - i was given it to taste as the man - small point to some perhaps and maybe it's just a bit more old fashioned than some are used to).

Location: next to small airport and cemetry, but neither cause a problem! planes are not too loud or late / early and cemetry rather interesting. It is in the middle of a lovely beach - great for morning / evening walks that so few people seemed to do - if you stay at this hotel you should really take advantage of this.

Overall a lovely stay, not a quiet seculded resort, but generally a good standard of everything and StLucia is a lovely island. Bit of a cliche, but the people are genuinely freindly. Finally, try zip-lining - it is sooo much fun. Hope this is of help to you.

There seems to be a problem with the room reservation system at this hotel. We booked an Oceanfront cottage through Virgin Holidays. When we arrived at the resort we were told we had been 'upgraded' to a first floor suite. Nice room but not what we booked or wanted and as the cottages were full we had to accept it. The point is that we paid a hefty premium for a cottage as they are on the beach and have reserved loungers etc. And Virgin confirmed that is what we were getting. We should have been advised of any change well before we traveled. The hotel were trying to persuade other guest to move to another hotel, Le Sport so evidently there was a general room allocation problem.
There seemed to be a lot more flights from the adjacent airport this year.
Otherwise OK

We had an amazing time at this resort. There is not much that hasn't been said but a few of the key points are:
- food and drink very high standard for all inclusive. Choice of 2 restaurants which was great for variety! Most nights there was loads of choice for vegetarians and there were always some choices.
- service from all the staff is fab with some real characters amongst the staff
- Wide range of activities so there is something for everyone but there isn’t loads of pressure to join in.
- Rooms are kept spotless and everyone seemed happy with their rooms whatever type they had ( we had verandah room which was v spacious! )- no bath but the shower was very relaxing and powerful.
- We were lucky enough to make some great friends and take part in their wedding which made our trip extra special but everyone was very friendly and there was a lovely atmosphere at the hotel
- Grounds and beach all well maintained and beautiful!
The only downside we noticed some mornings is that there is a fair amount of noise from outside the hotel so sleeping in is not always easy but this wasn’t a big issue at all.

Overall if you are looking for a relaxing resort based break in lovely surroundings then don't think twice about booking this hotel - you will enjoy it!

we went to the Rendezvous resort not knowing what to expect as we had booked to renew our wedding vows (50th) and hopefully have a great time .But this was not so- we had a seriously wonderful time from arriving at the hotel till leaving.Friendly happy smiling faces great food & services clean rooms fresh iced water put in your room each day plus so much more. One can be as active or lazy as one wishes, just lay on the beach or by one of the many pools and have someone take your order and bring it back to you. Just go enjoy & relax.

Our magical story starts with Janet and the rest of the staff at Tropical Sky. On choosing our destination in St Lucia, Janet was extremely helpful and knowledgeable regarding this destination. It was everything she had described and more.
Unknowingly to me, my husband Andrew had contacted Janet to arrange for my partially disabled 80 year old father and 74 year old uncle to fly to St Lucia the day before my wedding as a surprise for me. I have never been married before and lost my mother 3 years previously.
The night before my wedding I was looking out to sea with cocktail in hand and Andrew asked what we should do about witnesses. I explained that we could use staff or anyone off the beach would suffice. He then said “what about those two people standing behind you”. When I looked round and my dad was standing there I could not believe it and still I am in shock. Lots of tears followed as you might expect. Janet arranged all of this and managed to keep it a secret even when going over all the final details!! I cannot thank you all enough.
The hotel and staff at the Rendezvous were fantastic, helpful, and very friendly. A big thank you to Sandra, who handled all of our wedding arrangements, and made our wedding day run with ease and lots of smiles. Sharon who did my hair for the day was perfect could not have hoped for better. We chose to get married in the new gazebo on the beach, (the first couple to do so) which was in the perfect spot and decorated with wonderful flowers and was extremely romantic. The rest of our honeymoon was so romantic and full of fun a special thank you to Natasha who kept our room spotless and on our wedding night decorated our room we care and attention. A special thank you also to Pauline, Dino and the rest of the staff who spoilt us rotten and made our stay extremely comfortable and fun. The Rendevous is the perfect place for a wedding especially for the older couple. There are only two weddings per day allowed. We stayed for 10 days and there were only two weddings our entire stay. Ours was the only wedding on Valentines day PERFECT. Our room (130) overlooking the pool and beach was perfectly located for swimming in the pool and listening to the waves crash of an evening. You can here a little airport noise but you seem not to notice as the hotel and staff in general are so good you are to busy enjoying yourselves. We met and made some fantastic friends Wendy and Kevin, Kathy and John and the only other couple to be married besides us Janet and Robert.
Lastly a big thank you to my new husband who is the most perfect man in the world for giving me the best surprise of my dad at our wedding and lastly the last surprise a flight to the airport on a helicopter for us all (an absolute must) What a perfect way to end the perfect wedding/honeymoon.
