Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort
Ranked #3 of 12 Hotels in Castries
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed August 7, 2007

I booked the Windjammer on the basis of the positive reviews I had read here before hand. I expected a lot as all the reviews were rated 4 and 5. Windjammer is a villa resort built on very steep hillsides. Stunning views but impractical to walk up and down. You travel up and down by calling a shuttle bus. The area is heavy in foliage/trees etc, which is nice but there is a big mosquito problem. I arrived late at night and was shuttled to our villa - no1. It is typical of the majority of the villas here so beware. Split level with one bedroom up and one down. Middle area is living, dining and kitchen. Three large double door openings on this level are all barred, no glazing and no mosquito mesh, nor air conditioning (air conditioning in bedrooms only). The doors look like a jail, check out my photos. This is a fundamental design error that beggars belief !!!. Anything from the jungle can come in (and in our case did) day or night into your kitchen with ease. My daughter was bitten all over watching TV in the living room at night and there was nothing we could do to stop mosquitos coming in. You are at one with the outdoors with no protection. The birds are really bold and constantly have to be chased outside. On our second night my wife and I were enjoying a drink, in the lounge area when a dark shape caught my eye on the kitchen worktop. A RAT!!! I managed to get it out, but we were both horrified and disgusted at the thought of it being in our rooms. Check out the photos of the rat faeces on the kitchen window sill (which the hotel staff didn't remove even after my showing them it ). I complained to the front desk staff the next morning and told them we would be leaving the same day unless it was sorted. Genny the rooms manager showed me a few alternatives which were basically the same, before moving me to a 1 bed apartment that was glazed all round. I have to say both Genny and Richard the general manager made every apology and were genuinely concerned that we were happy with our new accommodation. Because of this and their excellent kids club I am giving them 3 stars. I told them that the standard villas have a terrible design problem that would be easily fixed by spending a few hundred pounds on insect screens. They listened in agreement but I suspect nothing will ever happen. This is very sad as the resort has a lovely beach and some other nice attributes. If you can obtain a villa or apartment here that is glazed, or if you don't mind sharing your holiday with the local flora and fauna, then perhaps this place is worth a look in. I paid 250pounds (500usd) a night here for "room only". I didn't think it was good value. However, most of the Carribean is pretty similar. If you want a real 5 star hotel then be prepared to pay over 500 pounds (1000usd) a night. For many my review will be completely off-putting. This is perhaps unfair because once we'd moved, I did like it and you can have a good time here with or without kids. The staff are great But what happened is true and it is down to the basic design shortcoming of the villa.

Stayed here with the missus for 11 nights in July in an ocean view room. The room itself was spotless, a nice size with a big sheltered veranda and a very private sundeck upstairs. If you are staying in an ocean view room, I'd recommend trying to book one with the letter A after the number as these are far more comfortable, larger, more private and have the sundeck when compared with the apartments below which end in B. Overall we were delighted with the room and was perfect for the 11 nights. There was a cleaning service and a turndwn service every day.
We stayed during the construction period and was fairly unnoticeable to be honest. You get used to the background din. it certainly didn't impede our enjoyment.
We found the food very good with lots of variety. The only exception was the Upper Deck where we only ate once and weren't tempted to return. The Friday night BBQ in Dragonfly is simply stunning and Papa Dons well worth a few visits.
Service throughout is excellent with few exceptions.
Only a couple of minor negative points. Nightlife is fairly non existent after 10:30pm although the bar opens till 1am. Also, the pool beside Papa Dons which was the nearest to us and most private was closed for repairs for nearly a week which was disappointing.
We went out in Rodney Bay on a few nights which is far more lively. All the people are sociable and very friendly and its better value too although there is no need to go in every night!
Windjammer is set in a fantastic location. I'd recommend walking the "strip" in Rodney Bay to see where all the other resorts are located and you'll be happy you selected Windjammer!
We had a super time and would definitely return. Well recommended.

We have just returned from our 5th visit to Windjammer Landing in the last 7 years so i think we (a) love the resort, and (b) have a good idea of the good and the bad by now ! Of course the good far outweighs the bad and the bad are more niggles than anything terrible, of course niggles can be put right i hope.
The main good things are 1. the staff, they are so friendly and as long as you make the effort to smile and say hello they will always return the compliment no matter if they're at the end of a long shift, even the gardeners are always cheery and courteous. 2. activities, lots to do, watersports is well run, has loads of kit...boats, waterskiing, snorkelling, windsurfing and the guys that run it are helpful and professional.3. Food is always good quality although after 2 weeks on-site the menus across the 4 restaurants can get a bit tired, suggest you go out once or twice even if you are on fully-inclusive plan, Coal-Pot, Chart House, Ku De Ta, and Buzz were our favourites, avoid the Edge.4 The villas, this time we had a new villa with pool, previously we have had villas with open lounges and so appreciated the full A/C and lack of bugs in the villa.
The Niggles....1.Mini-supermarket is very expensive and poorly stocked with little choice, if you're planning on doing some self-catering then i recommend a taxi to Rodney Bay to the main supermarket for grocery shopping. 2. the bugs, bites are very common and no matter what you spray on yourself they seem to get through ! maybe the resort could increase its mosquito eradication program, we saw just about evryone with lots of bites, two suggestions, spray repellent from 4pm onwards as beach critters (sand flies) are active then , and eat something with vitamin B in it e.g. Marmite (bring this yourself) , apparently bugs hate Vit B. 3. Housekeeping was sporadic, some nights we had no towels, some times just a few, mostly ok and the villa was looked after well.
After all that i would HIGHLY recommend WJL, we decided to buy a 2 weeks timeshare whilst we were there so we must love it. The mix of families, couples, honeymooners works really well and if our kids are happy, so are we !

Well let's see where do i start. Windjammer was a Great Resort and i must say that there isn't much that i could have asked for differently. The one thing that I did not like was the way that they handle the all inclusive package, instead of giving you a band with all inclusive you have to sign the bills with your room number. Other then that I must say that the Island was a beautiful place. The natives are very polite and will do anything to assist you. While on vacation we took a tour on the boat to the pitons on an all day tour. While there we went into the volcano & the waterfall. The rooms were kept nice and neat and If you travel like my family did then the space that was needed was great. The 5 different places to eat at had delicious plates and everything was served on nice dishes with elegance. This is definitely a place that i would like to travel and see again.

We just got back from a 5 night stay at the Windjammer with our two sons ages 8 and 10. The property is gorgeous with an awesome pool, great restaurants, strong drinks and a gorgeous beach. We really relaxed and enjoyed ourselves. However, we were dissappointed with the villa. We had a two bedroom with a plunge pool. The view off the patio was nice but the lack of windows, screens or air conditioning in every part of the villa except the bedrooms made it awful. The only TV was in an open area and the bugs and birds flew all around. There is no way to keep the bugs and mosquitos out of the villa since
there are no screens or windows. The bedroom has A/C and windows but -HERE IS THE KICKER...the attached bathroom does not. So you are showering and brushing your teeth with the bugs and then running out to slam the door so they do not get into your bedroom -which they do - thus the mosquito netting over the beds. The A/C was pretty poor
and the room stayed about 80. I did climb up on a chair and hit the reset button and that made all the difference. After that, it got nice and chilly!! Again, anytime we were not in the room- we loved the resort probably a 5 star experience but at night we would lay there listening to the mosquitos buzzing by and dreading a trip to the bathroom which became known as the "sauna". For children you can't go wrong - there is an ice-cream shack on the beach, a pizza place Embers and everything you could want. The boys loved the kid's club at night (free) so we could enjoy a nice dinner and wine. If we could re-bbok we would beg and plead to get a villa that is fully air-conditioned. We found out there are a few but you must request them.

We stayed at Windjammer for 5 days for our honeymoon and absolutely LOVED it!! We had an amazing villa with a kitchen, living and dining area and large bedroom with 2 bathrooms. (villa # 63). The patio was very large with a breathtaking view of the carriibbean sea and we also had a very small but nice plunge pool to cool off in.
Most of the people staying there were either honeymooners, couples or families. I would not recommend to somone looking for a singles-party type atmosphere.
Although its not an all inclusive resort- I highly reccomend purchasing the all inclusive package!! It was the easiest and most affordable for us.
The spa was great- got a couples massage that was amazing. The food is pretty good- I am not a food person so my favorite meal was at the italian resturaunt but others seemed to really like the food.
The beach is nice, very clean and great views. Watersports were average- not one of the strong points of the resort.
The shuttle everyone mentions was great for us. We never had to wait more than like 3 minutes everytime. As many reviews have mentioned- the resort is quite hilly (you are on a side of a large cliff) and we could not have managed without the shuttle.
Staff is also great- very friendly and accomodating- lots of fun too.
My only warning or advise has nothing to do with the resort at all. If you are flying into the larger airport I would HIGHLY advise taking the helicopter shuttle. Its a little pricey but WELL WORTH IT!! The ride is an hour and a half and very windy- so not good for those who are prone to car sickness. I had a really hard time with the ride into the resort so on our way out we used St. Lucia helicopters to get to airport. 10 minutes and you get stunning views of the island and the Pitons!
We are already planning our one year anniversary back at the Windjammer!!

We stayed here 10-20 July 2007. We had a 1-bed apartment near the Papa Don's restaurant which had a marvellous view of the Caribbean and was truly delightful. The balcony/terrace was ideal - we spent most of our time whilst at the apartment out there. Aircon in main room and bedroom kept those very pleasant, and there is a full kitchen (which we never used) so one could cook a proper meal there.
We found the resort's restaurants fine, we mostly ate at Jammer's rather than the more formal places in the evening. It has a good menu which we coped well with at lunch and it had enough depth for evening too. We found the Ember's place a little heavy for lunch - there were no lighter options here at all, all seemed to come with fries or bread, pizza, etc. At Jammer's you could just have a Caesar salad.
The shuttle cars system operated very well - we always walked down to the main part of the resort and the beach, and caught the shuttle back. Never had to wait long.
The beach was good, and we enjoyed some watersports including a two person kayak and a couple of snorkeling trips also.
Restaurants were good at nearby Rodney Bay. We dined at the Lime, Cafe Claude and Kudetu (Thai). The Lime was OK, nothing special but competent with quick service (though the menu needed updating as several things were "off" when we called). Cafe Claude was very nice both for lunch and dinner. Kudetu is next door (I think they are jointly managed) and has an aircon area as well as an alfresco one, we chose the latter. The staff at both places were lovely and so was the service and the food. Both are highly recommended by us.
Went on the pirate ship trip to Soufriere which was fine except the last hour was spoilt by them giving every kid a water pistol - resulting in us getting collateral damage (ie an occasional soaking). In future I suggest they delay this so the kids still have their fun, but the adults without kids (like us) don't get fed up. They could have had a great 30 minutes and no one would have minded.
St Lucia is a nice place, a little tatty in places, but the people are really lovely and Windjammer is certainly worth staying at. We'd go back for sure.
