“Waste of Money”
Reviewed April 2, 2006

From the cockroaches in our room to the diesl trucks thundering past our door all day, from the 90 minute wait between ordering food and receiving it (if you can even get a reservation), to the incessant requests to attend a time share meeting, this was a horrible way to spend our vacation! Our room was pretty - until I saw the 2-inch cockroaches, the food was OK, but there was really nothing interesting - nothing I couldn't get for less money in the states. Ask for a drink, and prepare to wait 20 minutes for it, whether it's a simple cup of coffee or a frozen drink. When we were able to sleep through the trucks (the resort is under contruction now, and they start at 8:30 am!), we were woken up by phone calls from the front desk asking if we wanted to attent a time share meeting, or someone to fix our broken air conditioner (which we hadn't complained about - the fan was enough for us). And if you like to shower in the morning, you better be happy with damp towels if you shower before supper - ours were not replaced before 5 or 6 pm. I went down there looking for a great time, a relaxing vacation with my husband. I get better sleep at home with a young baby! And the service is frankly mediocre. I have been on cruises before, and the service has always been better, the food is better, the surroundings more interesting, and they're a whale of a lot less expensive!

We have traveled extensively throughout the Caribbean and this was the only repeat location we again stayed at. We rented a three bedroom villa with two other couples. This was their first time to St. Lucia. What can I say about Windjammer Landing, it's fantastic to us. Food was great, villa was old but sufficient and nice but the staff at the resort is the reason we returned. A couple of the staff even remembered us from two years ago so we felt right at home again.

We never had any problem with shuttles, we did have to wait a few minutes but the resort was crowded so it was expected. The food to me has improved from last time we were there, everything was prepared wonderful and tasty. Even the beach bar grill food has improved immensely.

We did the Jammers Day Sail a little disappointing to me. We chartered a private boat with just the six of us and did a half day snorkeling, dolphin watching trip which was fantastic and wish we would have done more with the great guy we met named Vincent.

My friends had a fantastic time and this will not be the last time we visit Windjammer. All of us did the all inclusive which is well worth it. We drank and ate all day and night and just signed a check at the end of the day or after the meal which was nice.

An extra tip here and there to special people goes a long way and they truly appreciate it. We received special attention although it is not necessary to extra tip these certain individuals went over and beyond their normal duties for us.

In closing Windjammer has everything. If you are looking for a high rise kind of vacation like Hyatts, etc. then this is not the place for you. This is a truly island type of setting with villa type houses some open some enclosed. Our villa was entirely opened except for bedrooms which did have air conditioning so we really soaked up and enjoyed the open air. Water sports guys are terrific. They will do about almost anything you request. Whitney, Gordon, Vincent, Sylvester, Reynolds were terrific.

Our many thanks to those special people who made our trip and that of our friends wonderful: Alvin, Goofy and Ben, Jeff,Castor and Barrington at Embers on the beach, Dion at Jammers, Fina at Upper Deck, Sharon at Dragonfly at breakfast. There are countless others who were wonderful and treated us with the utmost respect.

Management at Windjammer should be very proud of their staff. It is for this reason that we returned and recommended this resort to our friends.

I can't wait for the day until I return again to see my St. Lucian friends at the Windjammer Landing!

We went to Windjammer Landing for our daughter's spring break (she is 6); the high points were the setting--it is beautiful, the grounds are generally well kept; the staff--everyone is great; and the weather (note that that the forecast before our trip was for rain every day and it never rained). Also, the kid's camp was great--not overly imaginative, but the kids had a good time and the great thing is that they have a night program so you can go to dinner. The low point and it is significant is the food (totally disagree with the poster after us)--it was really not very good; the one upscale restaurant, Dragonfly was only open a few nights and mostly sold out when we arrived; the other nights it was a terrible buffet. I had booked very late, so we had a two-bedroom unit which was fine, but I saw a one bedroom unit with a sofa bed in the living room which was MUCH nicer--more room, a kitchen, for less money so if there is availability, shop around for the best room.

Just one more note: if you are not able to walk hills, this is not the resort for you! Yes, there are shuttles, but they weren't totally reliable, especially in the morning and because the resort was so busy, there was generally a wait for a ride.

For families, this is certainly a good place to look for a fun vacation, but if good food is a priority for you, there are better places--several repeat guests told me the food used to be much better.

Each year my husband and I travel with our 2 kids during their school March break. For the past 6 years we have visited different Caribbean locations staying 10 days to 2 weeks each trip. We may have found our first repeat location at the Windjammer Landing!
If you are looking for something a little different from the traditional all inclusive, buffet restaurant, apartment block, type of resort - try this place. For starters, the villa setting makes for a pleasant change from the usual resort accomodation. The four of us had 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a living room & dining room in which to spend our vacation, instead of us all cramming into one room for two weeks. Because this resort is traditionally an "a la carte" resort, the food is fantastic - not the usual trough, rehashed, buffet food offering. The 4 restaurants covered everything from a beach grill serving thin crust pizzas, burgers, etc through to a haute cusine restaurant serving dishes like mahi mahi in philo pastry. We never had a problem getting a reservation and did not have to get up at 8am each day to make the reservations for dinner, like some other resorts. If you choose the all inclusive option there is no annoying plastic bracelets to show you are a guest, instead you sign everything you eat and drink to your room but the bill at the end of your holiday is zero! You can run a tab on the beach and only sign one bill at the end of your day. We kept a rough tally of what we ate and drank each day and found the all inclusive option cost for 4 of us was very fair. We tend to eat and drink average amounts and my kids eat enough for adults! The beach grill staff is great, they will provide you a flag and all you need to do is hold it up and they come right to your lounge chair and serve you drinks and food - very decadent!
The entire staff is very attentive, with your own personal ambassador who checks in with you periodically to ensure your stay is going well. There is a 10% service charge added onto all food and drink bills that we were told is pooled and shared among all the staff. Of course because we picked the all inclusive option that was included in our package, so it was not an extra charge. We made a point of adding a few extras EC dollars in cash to each bill to bring that up to 15%. These people work hard to make your vacation a memorable event.
All the motorized water sports are free - another unusual perk for an all inclusive vacation. The entire family waterskied and my 8 year old learn how to get up on skis in one day.
The resort is not that large so you really get the personal feel, not too many guests and it seemed like a ton of staff to cater to all your needs. The kids club is great though it is better suited to the young child (under 6). My 8 year old preferred the teens club, which was a room with ping pong tables, pool tables etc.
The only excursions we took outside of the resort were horseback riding and we chartered a boat for half a day. The horseback riding was good and the boat excursion was fantastic. We had the boat to ourselves and asked the captain to find whales and dolphins if he could during our trip down to the pitons. He was able to find both and we experienced large schools of dolphins and whales surrounding our boat. Much better than any marine park - you see dolphins jumping up and doing tricks because they want to not because they are trained to do so!
The only negatives to this resort - and they are minor - were:
The beach needed more umbrellas. The guests tended to cluster around the areas of shade provided by the few palm trees. Sometimes it meant that other people were invading your personal space. More umbrellas or huts spread out across the beach would make a huge difference.
The service was a little slow at dinner time. My husband and I did not mind the wait as it allowed us to have a glass of wine but the kids would get a little antsy. We solved this by bringing a pack of cards to dinner to amuse our kids. The positive to the wait is your food is cooked fresh and everything is very hot and tasty.
Remember this resort is built on a hillside so it is not a good place if you have mobility issues. The terrain is very steep - everywhere! There are shuttles that come extremely quickly to pick you up and drop you off at your villas but sometimes you want to walk around a little. I saw some families struggling with strollers and some older people having trouble getting in and out of the shuttle buses.
I loved this place - it provided my family with everything we needed for a relaxing, luxurious vacation. We have stayed at many 5 star resorts and this is the first one that I would actually consider going back to next year.

St. Lucia is a beautiful island with some extremes of natural grace and staggering poverty. Sadly, you'll see little of either at Windjammer.

The food is very generic and reliably overcooked (typical of "all-inclusive" resorts). While the service is pretty good, it's a bit uneven. The staff is relentlessly willing to help, but is often forgetful.

And the "gated community" nature of the place makes it unlikely you'll ever encounter locals. In fact, one day we were there a rasta guy in a beat up rowboat was chased off the beach when he tried to land.

It's very nice and very clean and very family-oriented. Not a great choice for D.I.Y. travelers or young hipster couples who dislike white-bread middle Americans who inexplicably order burgers vs. local cuisine.

Safe, decent, and sunny. If you want more than that, try elsewhere.

We stayed at Windjammer for a week and were in awe with our surroundings. We really liked the non-traditional style of the hotel. We were in a normal room, which had a great view and a balcony. The only annoying thing about our room was they pushed two double beds together to make one big bed with the crease in the middle. But we got over that b/c it was still comfy. We flew into Castries, which I highly reccomend. Some people had to take a 2 hour cab ride from the other airport. We didn't do the all inclusive b/c we don't drink that much and found we saved some money that way. Do the day sail to the Pitons, its fun, and worth the money. Also, take advantage of the boat ride they offer to go snorkeling. They take you to a very nice little spot for about an hour. There wasn't much to see snorkeling by the Windjammer. Loved all the activities available to you if you feel you want to be active. It does rain a lot but only b/c it is so lush. It usually only lasts 20 min to an hour. I think one day it rained all morning until about 11, then it was perfect weather again. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect vacation. Very romantic but also a great family spot. Would definitely go back to Windjammer.

We just got back on Feb. 27th and can tell you it is an amazing place! We had an Oceanview room that was more than adequate with two private balconies.

The room had a great view and was very clean. We were situated across the street from Papa Don's Restaurant which has a beautiful pool and hot tub that people don't seem to know about.

We did the AI and I think it was worth it. The food is not buffet style but ala carte so you get a better quality I think. On the beach the Embers makes great shrimp shishkebobs and margaritas.

I was very concerned before we left about the weather. All I could see predicted was rain and clouds, not the case! Rained only twice and for only a brief time and yes there were some clouds and boy did you appreciate the break from the sun.

I had read about being pressured by the timeshare pitch. That wasn't our experience and we did consider buying in.

We also took the helicopter to and from the airport, St. Lucia Helicopter staff are as nice as the staff at the Windjammer. Definitely recommend the helicopter ride.
