“Amazing Resort-Windjammer”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2006

We just returned from the Windjammer Resort. We stayed in one of the Villas and the veiw was incredible. We have been to several different islands, and this was by far the most beautiful one we have been too. The resort is absolutely amazing. The employees of Windjammer were so helpful, and very, very friendly. The friendliest island also.
The Villa was very nice, and very well kept up.
I would recommend the Windjammer to anyone.

The resort has everything you could want if you just want to relax. The staff is very attentive and pleasant. Very nice spa with massage, facials and manicures. Food was very good with 3 very good resturants and two good bar/resturants. Lots of optional activities but it is fine for just lying around on the beach or the pool and relaxing. The rooms are spacious and being on the side of a mountain offer great views from almost any room.

From Hewanorra Airport (Hewanorra offers Jet Service) the ride is about 1 1/2 hour cab across the island but has amazing views of the island along the way (but you do also see the poverty of the majority of the island along the ride). Can take a helicopter ride a significant amount from Hewanorra airport to the Hilton and then a short cab ride to the resort. The Vigie airport is smaller but is for propeller planes only yet it is much closer to the resort.

We were totally thrilled with how things went for us at the Windjammer Landing Resort, even if North American/European visitors were to adjust to the “islands way of doing things.” From the moment we checked in to the sad time of departure, we had nothing but pleasant experiences and would happily recommend the Windjammer to anyone and give it my highest rating—we would return to this property in a heartbeat without any other consideration!

Our room was the kind of pleasant sort of serendipity one always hopes for on vacation. We arrived in St. Lucia expecting two bedrooms/baths and a common room connecting them. When we opened the door to see our three-story suite with full kitchen, dining room, living room, FIVE decks, and plunge pool to accompany our bedrooms, we were beside ourselves. These rooms really helped to create the relaxing sort of room one loves to laze around in when visiting the tropics! Not only that, but the white Moroccan design literally accented the tropical and marine colors as you looked out your windows in the morning and the sunsets in the evenings—simply beautiful!

The grounds of the property did an excellent job of keeping up St. Lucia’s version of Paradise. The bougainvillea (trees, not bushes!) were in full bloom and just beautiful as they attracted hummingbirds that seemed to swarm around like mosquitoes at times. One unique aspect of this property is that it is spread over the side of an extremely steep hillside—something that would make carrying your bags an impossibility. Instead, the Windjammer has a small fleet of minivans that are constantly on-the-go, bringing guests and their belongings up and down around the clock. We actually got to know the drivers better than probably any other staff members! One of the great benefits of this up-and-down layout, though, was that almost every room had a beautiful view of the Caribbean.

Being a food and wine-junky, I’ve always been skeptical about staying for a week at an all-inclusive for fear of the restaurants not being to my liking or for fear of getting tired of the same menu halfway through the trip. Windjammer offers six food sources, four of which I would call restaurants. We ate at three of them and were quite happy with all of our dining experiences, between the creativity of the menu, preparation of the food, level of service provided, and atmosphere. And for all travelers, one nice thing here is that you have the option of going with an all-inclusive plan or European plan (i.e. pay-as-you-go).

Lastly, the service here was everything we could hope for. On a regular basis their people were checking in with us to see if we needed anything and every single time, we felt it was a genuine inquiry, not just a procedure they were following because they had to. And any time we did have to request something, this request was met when we needed it. Also enjoyed all of the excursion trips we signed up for. For what you got, they were worth the price and excellent quality (did the whaling/dolphin-ing/snorkeling trip, the 1/2 day rain forest jeep trip, and the day trip to the Grenadines)

As I said, we highly recommend this property—it really can meet the Caribbean needs of almost anyone. About the only crowd that wouldn’t enjoy this property would be the people who are looking for a party destination.

The one warning is for those of you driving yourself. The signage on the main road is quite small. If you suddenly find yourself passing a KFC/Texaco station on the right, turn around and go back about 100 yards and turn right!

Feel free to e-mail me if you would like to see the entire travel log and other pix.

We stayed at Windjammer Landing Jan 22 through Jan 29, 2006. We have been to several destinations in the Caribbean and we feel this was the best experience to date. We had our 2 children with us (5 1/2 and 3 years old) and they had an amazing time. A few notes:

1. We moved villas after the first night. It was situated just above the construction taking place to rebuild 2 villas that were damaged due to mudslides. As well our air conditioner in our room leaked so by the morning there was a lake on our floor. The staff were completely accomodating and we were moved to a higher unit up the hill within 2 hours.

2. Most of the rooms and villas are open to the air. Take the mosquito netting for the beds seriously. The bedrooms in the villas can be closed off to the outside, allowing for air conditioning, but the moquitos can still get to you from other areas of the villa. You are provided with bug spray and we fogged our rooms each night.

3. The shuttle service is truly amazing, the longest we ever had to wait was 20 minutes (once) other that that they were there within 5 minutes or less.

4. We ate at all the restaurants. In the evening the dinners at each one were exactly as represented in the menu if not better. During the day the breakfast buffet and lunchtime fare was fine and creative. The service at all dining areas was excellent with the exception of Jammer's during lunch and dinner (they were very slow 90% of the ime and I am not sure why)
5. The beach is lovely especially for small children. We experienced windy, high surf days and completely calm days. Neither were an issue.
6. We only accessed the kids club on one occasion for a theme night but the kids loved it and the staff are very attentive towards the children.
7. The views from the villas are absolutely beautiful and by the end of the week we were reluctant to leave.
8. The staff were the most helpful and friendly of any place we have ever been. Everyone seems to enjoy working at the resort and act like one big family.
9. We took the helicopter from the main airport to the small airport at the other end of the island instead of the 1.5 to 2.0 hour drive because of the kids and it was terrific.
It took us 3-4 days to change from North American mode to Caribbean mode but after that it was bliss.
1 week is not long enough. Enjoy!!!!

I know it's taken a while for me to write this review but since I've just booked to go to the Caribbean again and the reviews on this site have been paramount to my choice then I thought I'd return the favour for others looking through the reviews trying to decided where to go.

Well let me get started, Windjammer Landing, what can I say? wonderful? amazing? the best holiday I've ever had? I could say all of that but it still wouldn't come close!

We stay in villa 106a it was beautiful. It had a lovely balcony and a set of stairs to the side of it that lead up to a secluded roof terrace with a couple of sun loungers, it was very private. The bathroom was really nice with a double shower one at either end.

The room was cool and tropical each morning we had some stunning birds on the balcony and the odd little gecko and even though it was scorching hot it made no difference as the air con done it's thing and we slept well every night on the comfy bed.

The service was second to none, each day the maid came ad restocked with the usual piton (?) local beer water and coke etc. she always left loads of fresh towels and at night they came and "turned down" your room they put the mosquito net round your bed and left some flowers.

The food was AMAZING although at Jammers it was just normal bar food burgers etc. the beach restaurant done the nicest prawn kebabs I have ever tasted. Dragonfly was lovely too and it was gourmet style with very fancy and artistic dishes which were very very nice although it seemed such a pity to ruin the picture. We didn't have the chance to try any of the others.

The staff couldn't do enough for you & were always topping up your drink and asking if you needed anything, the young waiting staff always seemed very thankful if not surprised to get a tip so it was nice to give it but we nver felt obliged to tip.

They had live music on each night of different types pleasant enough nothing spectacular to be honest.

The beach was a little small but there was always plenty of space and the water was lovely and bluey green in colour. Seemed to be a bit windy all the time but then the name is Windjammer! And although it was windy it wasn't so much that it became an issue.

Each day there is a guy who sails onto the beach in his wee boat selling fresh fruit and coconuts he had loads of flags of the world on it and he announces his arrival with the biggest seashell it's all very Caribbean.

We sampled nearly all of the cocktails on the menu and all I suggest is to be careful as they are potent the rum is lethal!

Whilst we were there we saw someone get married and it was so special that I decided on a Caribbean wedding and am now going to the Dominican Republic in May to tie the knot that's how nice it was.

The pool was small but pleasent enough and although there was a main one at the bars and beach there were a couple of smaller ones and there was one at the spa which was right next to our room and as our villa didn't have a private pool we sneaked across when it was late for some night time swimming (I don't know if your meant to but we did and din't have any problems)

The resort is hilly but you just need to ring reception and the shuttle is there withing a minute or so.

I recommend this 100% and if you every get the chance to go take it!

We spent an amazing week at Windjammer Landing for our honeymoon September 26th - October 2nd. We spent many, many hours searching for a honeymoon desitnation, and finally decided on St. Lucia and Windjammer. We hit the jackpot! St. Lucia is such a gorgeous island, and we got to see the majority of the island on our ride to and from the airport. Our drivers both times were excellent tour guides, and explained a lot about the island to us.

The resort is absolutely gorgeous. Lots of tropical flowers and lush vegetation, and the blue Caribbean Sea as a backdrop. All of staff that we dealt with were so nice and helpful, and always had a smile on their face. Everyone we met was very friendly. The villa was exactly what we were hoping it would be. We had perfect views of the water, and the inside was just rustic enough to make you feel like you were on a tropical island, but still had modern conveniences that made us comfortable.

We went on the Jammers Day Sail (which was an absoluet blast - we had a very fun group of people), as well as snorkleing a couple of times. We enjoyed being on the beach so much, that we never even had a chance to go into the pool. We ate at all of the restaurants - Upper Deck, Jammers, Papa Dons, and Dragonfly - and all were great. Drinks after dinner at Jammers was always a good time! Definitely have to try the Piton beer!

We had the best vacation we've ever had, and had such an amazing time. We were so lucky with the weather - every day we were there was sunny. We had a couple showers at night that lasted about 10 minutes, and then they were done. It was nice to be on vacation and be able to do all that was offered, or we could just relax on the beach with a book. We met some wonderful people (Hi Lauren :)), and only hope to return as soon as we possibly can!

We just returned from our third consecutive visit over Christmas to the Windjammer Landing. It's not like us to visit a resort for consecutive years, but we had such a wonderful time last December we really wanted to return. We were a bit concerned because of the damage caused by the mudslides, and we had heard that two of the restaurants had been closed. However, we were assured that they would be reopened by the time we arrived, and everything was pretty much back to normal. (Four villas had to be demolished due to structural damage caused by the mudslides.)

We found that the Windjammer Landing had undergone some nice renovations since last year. We requested the same villa that we had last year, and were pleased to find all new furniture, with the rooms freshly painted. The views were spectacular, and we were very pleased to see that our request for the same accommodations was honored.

The staff at Windjammer are by far the most gracious and courteous one could find anywhere. They are really eager to please their guests, and go out of their way to prove it to you. There was a special lobster dinner available when we were there, but I was told that there were no more lobsters toward the end of the week. When Windjammer staff learned that there were more lobsters, they sought me out to tell me that they would put aside lobsters for us. That's just one example of how the staff sincerely wants to please its guests.

The food at Windjammer is wonderful. Care is taken to make one's dining experience great, and we are pretty fussy eaters. We enjoyed all our meals at Upper Deck, Dragonfly, and Papa Don's. It's unusual to find a resort that caters to families with such excellent food. The lunches at Jammers were also top quality, although the service at Jammers at lunchtime can be quite slow. There are just so many people and only two places to eat lunch.

The water is great for swimming; the views are spectacular; there are timeshares at Windjammer, but they sell themselves so there are no pushy sales pitches attempting to sell them to you. Everything is 100% professional.

I highly recommend this resort, and would be happy to answer questions if anyone would care to e-mail me. We spent 11 nights at Windjammer, and we really had a wonderful time.
