“Recent Trip. Would have loved to have given a higher rating but....”
Reviewed February 4, 2014

We have just got back from Windjammer Landing.

First the pluses.
Jammer's staff and waiting staff generally were excellent this year. There was far less of the laissez faire attitude we had experienced previously.

Housekeeping (after an initial shaky start - no dressing gowns) were very good and our villa was kept spotless by Mathilda and her colleagues. They looked after us very well and we had towels and flannels a plenty. We rarely had to ask for anything. Excellent!

Food was good, and, as usual I really liked the Jammer's menu. Soups in particular. Big up to Virginia for her cooking of fish. My Red Snapper was so good I called her out of the kitchen to say thankyou. She also has a lovely singing voice !!

Pools were very clean and watersports were good. Trevor and Romanus in particular were great and Romanus continues to provide an exceptional snorkelling experience.

Our Jacuzzi was not heating up and I reported this to our Ambassador, Tasha. She got maintenance to sort this out immediately. Good for Tasha and Maintenance as I had a lovely warm jacuzzi to rest/sleep in for the rest of the fortnight. :-)

The hammocks at the end of the beach under mature trees providing shade are wonderful and were very popular with early risers. I understand that these and the trees are being removed as part of the expansion problem. I really hope that WJL will reconsider this as the owners are not happy about it and there were mutterings during the owners' party!!

Unfortunately there were negatives which impacted our stay quite badly.

1) Building work going on in Villa 47 - apparently unauthorised but involved angle grinders, hammering, drilling, tiles being dropped from a height etc. The Management were sympathetic and chucked the builders out but they kept returning and we had this going on for a week. We never had an explanation as to why the builders kept being let back in! Surely security at all sides of the access routes should have been told! I wrote to Management and have since received an apology but this is not good - especially in the High Season when our contract contains a non-disturbance clause. We were given a bottle of fizzy blanc-de-blanc as compensation by Franz Starker, the Timeshare head. Thanks Franz!

2) Electronic Keys
We had a problem with keys resulting in us being locked out of our villa in the dark in the rain and halfway up a steep hill after midnight. The shuttle driver (a trainee) did not wait to see if we could get into our villa. We used our mobile phones (at high cost) to phone WJ via England and ask for a spare key to be sent up.

On returning the old keys and getting new ones we were accused, quite forcefully, of having an extra set. We were pestered about this, in person and by phone by several members of staff. When we challenged this, the GM proudly stated that his system could "do no wrong" and pointed out that we had accessed the villa with the "new" set of keys at a certain time. As, at that time, we were at another resort where we met with the GM there and also worked with the band we could prove that we were not there at that time. The issuing of this second set to persons unknown negated our set causing us to be locked out!

The unauthorised access situation was eventually solved - after we had returned to the UK - when it was shown that a member of staff had used new guest keys to access our villa to put the blanc-de-blanc in it rather than using the Master set. We had suggested this as a solution to the GM but got laughed at, in public, for the suggestion.

We have, since our return, received an apology from the Managing Director, Mark Ozawa, who was off resort during this period. However, this matter was NOT investigated properly at the time and I spent the second week worrying that our security was compromised in the villa.... This was not pleasant at all.

In spite of all this, we did have a great holiday but those two incidents were enough to make me say that WJL need to sort out its problems and have some respect for their owners/guests should situations crop up like this. It is a great pity because we have always got on with the GM in the past. Maybe he was having an off week!

I look forward to our next trip and hope that it will be better than our last one :-)

We were on a Caribbean Cruise and stopped at the island of St Lucia where we hired a local taxi who took us to Windjammers Landing Resort. . What a beautiful place and the staff could not have been more welcoming, helpful and friendly it makes us want to return for a longer stay. Thank you Staff for making out short visit so enjoyable with lovely memories. I had to enter a rating for the sleep, rooms, spa, breakfast but these thing we didn't use but I am sure they would be as good

You can't really ask for a better view. This is a well run resort. While it is starting to show its age, it's well kept. Some of the staff are excellent (restaurants) while others are simply doing their job. If you enjoy water sports, this is a great choice since nearly everything is included in the price. The meals were quite good but not sensational for the price so it's worth checking out other places in nearby towns. The taxi drivers from the hotel were all great.

First time to St Lucia and Windjammer Landing and as a couple we loved it. The design and layout of the resort gives fantastic views from the villas out across the sea. Our villa has amazing 360 degree panoramic views across a turquoise sea. The staff and manager are very attentive, helpful and friendly. There are lots of activities - watersports and outings, both for couples and families - this is a really friendly happy place. Most evenings there is great music and entertainment. There are numerous outings and water sports and we loved going out in a boat to snorkel and kayaking on the sea and through an inland mangrove river. The tropical rain forest is an amazing place and bathing in a waterfall is lovely.

Room Tip: Villas have great views.

I would highly suggest this resort for families with tweens and teens. My family loved the relaxed atmosphere of the resort and the motorized and non-motorized water sports were a terrific bonus to the resort. The beach was nice and service was okay on the beach. My only shock of the trip was the cost of meals. I am by no means cheap when it comes to eating but every meal we ate was 150.00 plus for the four of us. We used the little store on sight to get breakfast items and cheese and crackers and a few other snacks for the kids. We took a one day cruise to the Pitons and did the volcano and rainforest jaunt. We loved the resort and would definitely go back!!!

We spent 2 weeks at this hotel in early November 2013. It was our first visit but friends had recommended the hotel and we were not disappointed. We booked a deluxe ocean view room but were upgraded on arrival to a 1 bed villa with 180 degrees sea views which was a very nice touch and was a great start to our holiday. Apparently the hotel try and do this for guests if they are not fully booked. We are not sure but we think it was more likely we got the upgrade because we booked the all inclusive package. We were glad we booked the all inclusive meal deal as it would have cost a lot more if we had paid as we went or indeed taken a $30 round trip taxi to Rodney Bay to find a different restaurant each night. We did the 25 min walk one morning to get the local bus into Rodney Bay which was fun, if very hot (the walk!) but incredibly cheap - around a dollar each way!

The hotel is built on a hillside resembling a spanish village - lots of terracotta and white paint - very pretty with well maintained gardens. A shuttle bus service operates to ferry people around the resort if you are unable or too tired to walk! There are a number of pools - all clean and well maintained - we were particularly fond of the one up the hill near Papa Dons for early morning and late afternoon dips.

We wanted a lazy holiday so other than a visit to Rodney Bay and doing the Jammers Day Sail - worth it to see the Pitons - we stayed on resort and made use of the excellent watersports facilities, particularly enjoying the snorkelling trips hosted by Romanus (worth it for the speedboat ride to Rodney Bay!) and making use of the hobie cats. The team at the watersports hut - Gordon, Romanus, Coletta, Ezra, Aaron, Randall, Winston, Marcus and Clint were all brilliant - polite, friendly and always willing to help. Our all inclusive package meant all motorised watersports were included too which meant we could enjoy the Big Bubba rides at the end of the day without thinking of the cost!

We thought the food at the hotel was very good, we particularly enjoyed the breakfasts and there was a reasonable choice of venues for the evening although after 2 weeks we knew the menus off by heart! We liked the themed evenings they held in the main restaurant a couple of nights a week and it was great that they had live music most nights in the bar to provide entertainment if you did not want to venture into town. The music was never too loud!

The hotel was carrying out building works at the time of our visit so all guests received a US$100 credit on their bill on arrival - a nice sweetener and appreciated. We used it as a credit towards our Day Sail. The reception staff we met during our holiday - Gemar and Helen - were very polite and helpful.

The hotel is a timeshare resort as well as a hotel and we along with other guests were phoned on our very first morning to invite us on a tour. To be phoned on our first morning, after a long flight from the UK and before even breakfast was a bit much but we did later go on the tour out of interest to find out more about the resort and the hotel did give a further US$100 credit incentive on your bill for doing so. Buying into the timeshare concept at Windjammer was not an option for us but we met a number of very happy home owners.

We would definitely recommend this hotel to friends looking to visit St Lucia for a relaxing holiday although if you want to explore the island more, you may wish to base yourself at a more accessible hotel. For our needs, it was perfect.

We have just returned from a stay at Windjammer. The resort is well kept, facilities were very good (pool, gym, rooms, dining, free watersports), all very clean. The beach was lovely, with a good swimming area. There was a relaxed atmosphere and good vibe, we really enjoyed the week.

The breakfast buffet was varied and tasty, and the onsite restaurants are good for lunches, it got a bit boring over a week of dinners though. Service was mixed - some staff were entertaining and attentive, others seemed pretty disinterested! But if you are laid back about it, it's fine.

Our room had a little kitchenette (sink, fridge, kettle). I suggest you stop enroute from the airport to get some cheese, bread, drinks, biscuits etc at a local supermarket - the onsite shop was $3 for a small loaf of bread, and $7.50 for a pack of biscuits!

The resort is somewhat remote if you plan to explore independently or affordably - it's a $30 return taxi to Rodney Bay, and $50 return to Gros Islet or Castries. It's a 25min walk (in the heat) to the bus stop where you could catch a bus to various places of interest for just a couple of dollars. We met some people staying in resorts in Rodney Bay, though the wider setting wasn't as picturesque the proximity to transport links, giving flexibility to be able to do your own exploring, was appealing.

The resort was overpriced; $200/day for all inclusive. A bottle of beer is $5, cocktail $8, basic burger $16, can of coke $3.50, ice cream $6. They add 10% service onto everything, even a bottle of water. This is at least double prices in more local restaurants.

If you get the chance; explore the rain forest/interior, do a road trip to Soufriere, spend a few hours on Pigeon Island (eat at Jambe de Bois) and party at the Friday night Jump Up at Gros Islet (eat at Flavours of the Grill).
