“Spyke's Holiday St. Lucia”
Reviewed March 14, 2014

We stayed at Sandals Halcyon Beach in Castries, St. Lucia February 16-23. It was awesome. The resort was very quaint, much to our liking. We stayed in room 610, second floor near the Paradise Pool, room was clean, balcony, air conditioned, tv, well stocked mini bar(beer, pop, water, juice, wine
Champagne, scotch, vodka and of course Appleton rum), wifi all included.
The trip from the Hewanora airport to the resort was very interesting, about an hour and twenty minutes to go 50k, if you are prone to getting car sick consider the helicopter trip or gravol!
All of the staff were very friendly, and very helpful. If you needed anything all you had to do was ask! There were always loungers available at the pools at Halcyon, the one day we went to La Toc we had to wait for loungers as they were either taken or reserved(until it rained and then half the people scattered) then we were able to obtain some loungers.Swim up bar at both pools at Halcyon, good drinks, friendly staff. The restaurants were all good, we usually had breakfast at the Bayside (omelettes, fruit, cereal, toast cheese almost anything you could want), Kelly's Dockside, Mario's and Kimonos(reservations required) we went for supper, and if you needed a snack in between there was the Beach Bistro. We also spent one day at Sandals Grande, it has the nice beach but very busy.
We took one tour while we were there Soufriere Speedboat Experience( Joe Knows) shuttle to the port and then speedboat to the area of the Pitons for mud bath (the girls did not think the mud bath was the spa experience they were expecting) but Big Al and his crew were very entertaining.
Michael from the entertainment staff kept us busy for an hour or two every day in the gym or in the pool doing activities to keep us fit. Thanks Michael! The gym is open 24-7.
The weather was 25-28C and it rained every day but Friday (it would pour for about 10 minutes and in half an hour you would never know it had just rained).
We will definitely go back to Sandals Halcyon, the resort was nice, rooms were clean, food and drinks were good and the staff was great, we always feel very comfortable at Sandals!

Room Tip: If you like quiet get a room on the second floor in one of the middle buildings!

We had a great time. The staff is awesome, the views are beautiful, the weather was perfect, and the food was delicious. We travelled with a group of 11 and there was something for everyone. You could do a tour or you could just lay by the beach or the pool. We visited the Sandals Grande Resort and it was nice. Really enjoyed meeting Charlyn the activities director, Mickey the bartender, plus all of the other staff.

We were only here for four nights and it was not nearly long enough. At first glance it is not as stunning as other Sandals locations but the fact that there are no buildings taller than 2 stories makes it so nice! The rooms are older and you can tell a little bit but I thought it was clean and kept up well. We had a 2nd floor room with a partial ocean view and it was awesome. (funny, we were in room 215 - had just seen another review for that room!)

The staff was all very friendly, there were always pool floats and chairs available at both pools. There was never a long wait for a drink and even though there was not a list of drinks like at other resorts the bartenders knew anything I threw at them. We attended the Manager's cocktail party and put some names to faces. The general manager was very friendly and even helped load our bags when we left. It was really nice.

We did visit both the Grand and La Toc. They were much busier and larger. There were also many more vendors on the beaches trying to push wares and trips. That is THE most obnoxious thing in my opinon. I hate being bothered and not being able to relax. I like to see locals selling their stuff - and would rather give them my money than the gift shops - but I hate feeling like if I go too close they'll accost me. We wouldn't even go down to the beach at the Grand because there were too many of these vendors. If I went back I'd stay at the Halcyon over the other 2 any day - plus it's nice that the Halcyon is 15 minutes from either resort so you can visit any time easily.

My wife and I spent our honeymoon here from Feb 25 to March 7, and we had an absolutely amazing time. The property is beautiful, the food was great and all of the staff are professional and top notch. Upon our arrival at Saint Lucia airport we were taken to the Sandals lounge (right in the airport) and were instantly provided a delicious rum punch- it was then we knew that this was going to be a special vacation.

Our room was clean and modern and comfortable with a complimentary mini bar with some quality alcohol. Our room was cleaned and the mini bar stocked on a regular basis. We were located on the ground floor near the paradise pool, which worked out great as this pool ended up being our favorite spot in the resort.

The staff were all super friendly and very professional. They are prohibited from accepting tips, but that didn't stop anyone of them from providing anything but top notch service, from the restaurants to the bars to the gift shop.

The resort itself is the smallest of all of Sandals resorts on the Island, which worked out perfectly for us. We were recommended this location by our travel agent and it was the perfect honeymoon location- quiet, not too large and no crowds which meant there was always plenty of space at the pools, bars and restaurants. Although it appears that Sandals Grand is the largest and most popular of all of the Saint Lucia locations with the youngest crowd, Halcyon was perfect for us. However, if you prefer a younger crowd and a more lively nightlife then Sandals Grand would be a better choice.

We enjoyed ourselves so much that on our last day we booked our next Sandals vacation!

Sandals Halcyon is the ultimate holiday resort to unwind and experience complete relaxation.

We stayed for a week in Feb 2014 as part of a group of 6. We all had rooms in the 300 area (near the cabanas) overlooking the gardens and a sneaky peek of the sea.

All of the restaurants produce amazing food. The only issue we ever had was in Kelly's Dockside restaurant... despite getting to the restaurant early to reserve a 6 table - we were forgotten and then when we were seated the service was very slow BUT the food was wonderful, and the keyboard player was very funny too!

We visited the Grand for an afternoon to see their famous beach but we found the resort to be very noisy and busy - we much preferred the relaxing, garden setting of the Halcyon.

Agnes who worked in the bar by the quiet pool is one of the kindest people you will ever have the pleasure to meet and speak so passionately about Sandals, its hard not to be sucked in and just enjoy the place even more!

The Sandals 'brand' is quite heavily featured, t-shirt sales by the pool, photography sessions and the 'soon come back' offers are pushed quite a lot BUT they are more than happy if you are not interested and just leave you to it.

The drink selection is wonderful. Complimentary fruit juices, soft drinks and water were available in our room at all times and stocked daily. The waitress service around the pools and on the beach is a lovely touch although the staff never write anything down and quite a few times our orders were forgotten (I know, a petty gripe - but when everything else is SO good, this stuff stands out!)

The Japanese restaurant, Kimonos (you need to make a reservation) is well worth a visit. Our chef (I WISH I could remember his name... maybe Duane?) was so much fun and the food was fantastic!

We would go back in a heartbeat.
Actually, we might have to, the glass Christmas bauble that we bought in the gift shop broke on the way home... any excuse to go back, I'll take it!!

We just got back from a wonderful, relaxing holiday at Halcyon. We were in room 215 with view of ocean and a beautiful garland over balcony and close to the quiet pool where we met a wonderful bartender, Agnes! We only went to that pool in late day. She truly was the most delightful staff member at this resort as well as Davina Divine who we met twice in Mario's and one morning at Bayside. We enjoyed all the restaurants and had an excellent dinner at the French restaurant at La Toc. We had hoped there would be more of a selection to have breakfast al le carte at a different restaurant, rather than the daily breakfast buffet at Bayside. We had been spoilt from another resort where a couple times a week we could order breakfast in our room to enjoy on our balcony. We have always been beach people so unfortuntely we were very disappointed at the beach at Halcyon. We decided to go twice to Sandals Grande because they had the white sand beach and clear aqua water. We had a lovely lunch at Creperie and Barefoot Beach Bar. We did the Joe Knows Who Tour with a good crew and good company. Travelled by water to the Pitons then by land. There we had a great lunch in front of the beautiful Pitons. If you like a smaller resort and are pool people then I do recommend this resort.

Room Tip: Room 200 block were an excellent location, close to Paradise Pool but also gardens in front and ocea...

We visited Sandals Halcyon as part of the Sandals Stay at One Play at All Three Exchange Program. There are shuttles between the 3 resorts approximately every 2 hours. Our shuttle from Sandals La Toc took about 30-40minutes. Our first impression was that this seemed to be the oldest of the 3 resorts in St. Lucia, but don’t let this fool you, the entire resort is situated in a garden full of lush vegetation, an island paradise. The resort is located right off of the main highway which leads to Castries. When we visited, the beach was very narrow, beach chairs were pushed up against the break wall. We had an opportunity to have dinner at Kelly’s Dockside, which had some phenomenal filet mignon. We also ate at Mario’s where the signature dish, braised veal shank with saffron risotto, was to die for. The veal melted in your mouth. I highly recommend trying this dish and will definitely be back to this restaurant the next time I am in St. Lucia. The service at the restaurants and the main bar were great, although we did arrive early to avoid the lines that some trip advisor reviews mentioned.

Tips:
Some restaurants are closed during certain days so keep an eye on the “The Daily Breeze” (resort newspaper) and plan accordingly.
If photographers take any pictures of you while visiting the other resorts make sure to purchase your pictures at that resort, pictures do not follow you back your home resort.
