Arthur's theme song. We really enjoyed our time with Arthur. He was a hilarious guide who kept us highly entertained throughout the whole tour. We enjoyed seeing the beautiful sights of St. Lucia with him, and we loved the stop at his place. Momma's cooking was a nice touch to the tour. We loved it!! We also loved learning a song along the way. Overall, a very enjoyable time.

“Creole Fiesta Excursion to Lushan Country Life”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 22, 2011

We did this tour last week, and while everyone in St Lucia was professional, friendly, and knowledgeable, the tour was unfortunately not as described on the various websites that offer it.

It was supposed to be "interactive," but WE DID NO COOKING and that's what we were hoping to do. The food was already prepared after we finished our tour of the grounds, and we were shown some of the preparation in stages that had already been started by the cooks at Lushan Country Life. We didn't learn much about Caribbean/Creole cooking in general, but were only given samples of a few particular dishes. We didn't chop any herbs so we don't know what herbs are common to St Lucian/Caribbean/Creole cooking, and we definitely didn't feel like we had mastered the art of Creole cooking after the tour and we didn't help create any dishes.

The grounds are beautiful and the guide was very funny and informative, but if you're hoping to learn any Caribbean cooking, you're better off with at a different venue.

Arthur A, Manager at Lushan Country Life Tours, responded to this review, April 29, 2012
So sorry you were unable to paticipate in the cooking. Aparantly there was a miss communication by the company providing that tour; the staff at Lushan Country Life were unaware. You received the advanced preparation done for shorter tour.

“A little knowledge goes a long way”

Having failed to connect to the Forestry Service in St. Lucia in order for us to walk the Millet Trail in search of the elusive St. Lucian Parrot, it was suggested on short notice that we could find a short walk and some interesting information at Lushan Country Life. It was indicated that though we would not see the St. Lucian parrot on the grounds of Lushan Country Life, we should see other birds. But we did not see them as apparently there was some hawk in the area keeping them in hiding.

What we did see was a delightful labor of love. The Anthony family has created a brief look into the history of the Island and some lovely taste/touch/feel experiences with local flora. The walk is easy, the land shows great care and is refreshing to the eyes, and the breezes through the forest give wondeful testimony to the idea of trees creating "lungs" of the earth.

This was an easy, inexpensive way to get a glimpse of local culture and worth the time and money.

“Loved it!”

My husband and I went on a southern Caribbean cruise with another couple. One of the ports of call was St. Lucia. We weren't really sure what we wanted to do while we were there and we happened to stumble across this tour. We were lucky enough to have Arthur Anthony as our tour guide. He drove us around the island - telling us so much about it. We really saw and learned a lot. (He was very friendly and funny too!) Toward the end of the tour he took us to the "Lushan Country Life" part of the tour. Arthur and his family transformed their 7 acre lot into this wonderful informational, cultural tour. They recreated what life was like long ago for the Lushans (before all of the technology). We toured the lot, visiting huts, tasting food and basically experiencing what life was like. It reminded me of the Polynesian Cultural Center in Hawaii. Great for those who love to learn about history and enjoy nature. We ended the tour at the beach where we were able to spend about an hour before being taken back to the cruise ship. It was a great time!

“Lushan Country Life Tours”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 6, 2009

We visited St Lucia as a cruise stop. We were really disappointed to find out how expensive it was to go anywhere. After shopping briefly at the port, we were approached by Arthur Anthony, the Managing Director of Lushan Country Life tours. He needed two more people to make his tour and it was at the right price. We were taken to see the local university, pretty overlooks, a beach, and his family run business. He stopped along the way to talk to locals so that we'd get a feel for their island. The family business is on the land where he grew up. His sister, father, and mother were all there working (we stopped by his brother's house along the way!) The grounds were lush and tropical. I have difficulty walking and could not take the walking tour, but he made sure that one of the guides showed me the map of where they were going, what they would see, and provided me with fruit samples that are grown on the land. My only disappointment was the beach that we stopped at. It wasn't very pretty and didn't seem like anyone was using it on a beautiful day. That would be the only thing that I would change- to stop at a better beach. The tour took about 3 hours. He was very personable and knowledgeable about the island. We were able to see things that we wouldn't have seen otherwise.
