I have been to St Lucia four times now as my parents were born there. This was the first time my husband had been to the Caribbean, and we did more touristy things that I am used to, such as eating out more than than at relatives' homes.
We rented an apartment in Gros Islet where I have stayed before and spent quite a bit of time in Rodney Bay Marina, as well as in the Village over the water.
There is alot of expansion underway to enable the marina to accommodate larger boats, and I do hope that they also add more bars and restaurants as well. On the Gros Islet side the best places are Cafe Ole for breakfast/lunch, and Scuttlebutts for anytime. I would not recommend Bosun's as the seafood chowder I had there on our first night was atrocious! Apart from these venues there is not much else apart from the banks and mini mart.
Overall our experience was good, but am sure once the improvements are complete the marina will be more like the one at Marigot Bay (beautiful!)
