Great little fishing village which has been geared up for tourism as there is a number of stall holders right by the beach unfortunately selling all the same things essentially, but the village itself gives you a real flavour of the islands culture.

Stopped here on an island tour . Very colourful homes line the streets of this village . Very photogenic area , although the residents didn’t seem to get any economic benefit from our visit.

Canaries is an 'atmospheric' small fishing village on the west coast of St. Lucia. We visited in the morning, the people were extremely friendly and happy.. There were several fishing boats around the beach, and frigate birds overhead looking for scraps of fish. Lovely place to stop off!

Nice little detour we took on an island tour. Nice to see how the local live and to hear stories of the village from today and years in the past as well.

They describe it as a 'Fishing Village' It's a simple sort of a place that appears to exist on Tourism and Fishing in that order. The buildings are basic and rustic, there is the mandatory Church and numerous small fishing boats pulled up onto the small(ish) beach. It has character in an untidy sort of way.
Of course there are several dozen stalls set up adjacent to the beach which offer all the same tourist souvenirs. Fairly pushy too to make a sale. It is probably not the sort of place that you would make a special trip to see, but as most tour companies stop here on the way to the Mineral Springs and Volcano, it is worth a brief explore.
