We are staying across the road at Boucan, and wandered over to see Dasheene yesterday. To say the view is awesome would be an understatement, and wowed by this we decided to book dinner there for this evening.
The menu is reassuringly expensive, with most mains $5 to $10 per item more expensive than Boucan, so to be honest, we were expecting some pretty good culinary things (the food at Boucan is fabulous, so we guessed this would be even more so).
What can I say? It wasn't. The food was poorly presented, and my main was cold. The replacement came 2 minutes later, with worse presentation (think student puts prawns on rice with a couple of leaves of kale on top for a garnish), lukewarm, and not very tasty either.
The staff are perfectly friendly, but management have done that unsavoury thing where 10% service is put on your bill, added to the credit card tab, and then when the credit card slip comes, it also asks whether you want to add a tip to the (already tip inclusive) total. I've no complaints with the service, but don't want to pay twice for it, nonetheless...
Perhaps they were having a bad night. Or perhaps they just sit back on their hilltop view laurels a little too much. Either way, I am now very glad that Boucan is our 'local' restaurant. The view may not be quite as awesome, but the cuisine takes top spot, by quite a margin.
