Hotel Villa Lodge 4 Epices
Reviewed August 7, 2012

We had a wonderful stay with our family in the Villa Lodge. We stayed in the room with the small pool which was perfect for us. The rooms are very nice decorated and the view from the terrace is impressive. Chrystele did a great job and and was always very helpful. She gave us perfect recommendations for beaches, restaurants etc. Every morning you start with a good french breakfast overlooking the bay and the pool. We enjoyed it so much there that we will definetly will come back.

The website doesn't do justice to the beauty of Villa Lodge and its location. Our room (4) was much larger and better than the photos we had seen before going. Crystèle, the manager, and Guillaume the owner, were both extremely friendly and helpful in anything we needed throughout our stay. The swimming pool and breakfast area was also really pretty with an amazing view.

We recently stayed here for 3 nights. I booked this villa largely based on the other reviews here on Tripadvisor - but have to say that unfortunately our experience did not live up the reviews.

We were met by a frantic Chrystell - the manager who claimed not to have got our email saying when we were arriving - but there was only a 45 minute delay here - not a huge deal as we only got the ferry across from St Martin - the french side. Very easy to do by the way and great if you are spending time on both islands. Is an hour across each way and it leaves either in the morning or afternoon.

The villa itself - while stylishly designed - believe me I am a boutique kind of hotel person. However - a lot of the design here was not functional - coffee cups with a bizarre handles that you couldn't hold properly - sharp edges on the bed - longer on one side - difficult to get into. Shower whilst quite big - had a rather small shower head.

These might seem like small niggles - but when you are paying 600 euros a night you expect better. Things like being asked to pay 2 euro for the nespresso capsules in the room was also annoying, and only one bottle of water provided for the entire stay - despite being told not to drink the tap water. There is also no one around after breakfast - which was also pretty basic. So nowhere to get ice in the afternoon - despite there being a very large kitchen on the premises. I do realize it is a villa rather than a hotel - but still. Also - the owner was not around on our stay until the very end - but he did seem nice - which I see was noted in other reviews.

St Barts in high season is generally expensive - but I still think for the high nightly rate - they need to deliver a better service.

Other things to note - the villa is not on the beach - nice view from the balcony - so you WILL need a car to get around....also note the roads are super narrow in St Barths - so make sure you rent a smaller car than normal...

Hope this helps!

In 2010, my wife, brother, sister-in-law and niece stayed at Isle de France... This year we chose to stay at Villa Lodge b/c it seemed to offer a better value. I'm happy to say that we made a great choice. Villa Lodge is located on a hillside, overlooking Grand Cul-De Sac Bay. The views from along the infinity pool are panoramic in scale and offer a sense of maximum relaxation.
As for the rooms, ours had an ocean view with a very large deck and an attached kitchenette which we used a couple of times. My brother had the Saffron Villa which is located above the other villas (on the hillside) and comes equipped with a large living room and spacious deck.
The service at Villa Lodge was excellent in every respect. Every morning, our breakfast was ready and waiting at 8:30, prepared for us by Lucienne. Pineapple, Grapefruits, croissantes, pastries, freshly squeezed orange juice and newly brewed coffee helped get each day started on the right track.
Lucienne also provides the cleaning services and does an excellent job. Our rooms awaited us freshly cleaned each day after breakfast.
Chrystelle, the manager of Villa Lodge was extremely friendly and very helpful in setting up our reservations, and in organizing different activities for us during our stay, including the best Catamaran sunset cruise imaginable. She also teaches an aquatic sports workout program which my wife and sister-in-law participated in and loved.
As part of our package, weHUAC scheduled 2 massages with Arnaud (Chrystelles husband) who is a licensed chiropractor and fantastic masseuse.
The owner of Villa Lodge, Guy Perrier was a great host and came to check on how things were going every morning. He also took us on a great snorkeling tour of Marigot Bay and hosted us one evening at the Villa Lodge poolside bar for appetizers and champagne. His wife, Marie-Aimee is an interior decorator and did all of the design work at Villa Lodge. They were such great hosts and really added to the overall experience in a positive way.

Overall, we would highly recommend a stay at Villa Lodge 4 Epices. It was clean, stylish and hugely relaxing and the fact that it was a Villa and not a Hotel offered us the flexibility to feel that we were more at a home away from home rather than just staying at a hotel.

Had an amazing trip, was the only couple at the villa at the time, felt like it was our own place. The room was fabulous and decorated so interestingly and unlike most cliche hotel decor, the woman who owns it is a designer and it shows! The owners husband, Guy, was around all the time, and was extremely helpful and kind and if you needed anything was there to help. Chrystele, the woman who runs the place, is amazing. If we needed anything she would come help immediatley at the villa, she helped us while on the property, but also well off with anything from great beaches to visit and restaurant s to eat at. Had such a great stay, would hands down go back everytime we are in st barths, not only was the staff beyond helpful, overall wonderful stay, would suggest to anyone.Felt like a second home for us, were treated as if it were our own!

Chrystele bent over backwards to make our trip a great one! The hotel is hip and trendy and the views from any room is wonderful! Being Americans, I felt because I didn't speak the language I was a bit irritating to them but hey St. Barts talks about being the best and that's what we wanted. We where frazzled at first because I didn't do much research on what we needed. Different plugs for our hairdryers and cell phone chargers. Having a family back home we needed to keep in touch! So we rented a phone, got some food to have on hand. Then all was good. The breakfast brunch was good, they could have had a little more as far as a variety of fruits and cheeses. It was wonderful but the same thing every morning was a bit. You do have to have a car to drive everywhere, not a hotel so you don't get that kind of service but that was all good after we got settled. The car thing was a pain if you like to drive around on those small roads. After having some wine or a few cocktails at dinner, then drive home? Bad idea! The cab drivers on the island are mean, late and don't really like their jobs it seems. Chrystele did a great job we difinetly where high maintenance. She set us up with a friend of hers that does private hiking tours. Hélène Berneir owns a place called Easy Time. She was so great! So we did that and drove around the whole island and looked at the beaches, the restaurants, Le Ti, best and friendly! We would go back seeing the other places. You really can't go wrong anywhere on the island I suspect. If you like privacy, it was wonderful!!

We spent only a 4 nights on the island, so we do not know if the location is the best. It seemed quiet, yet close to several excellent restaurants. The hotel is beautifully designed with luxury furniture ( ligne roset) and the style is just perfect for the island. Cannot forget about the staff, that helped you all the way, from picking you at the airport, arranging car, recommending restaurants and helping with anything you need. There is no gym, but also no big crowds of large hotels. if you looking for a small boutique hotel, then it is for you.
