“Perfect Honeymoon!”
Reviewed August 16, 2012

My husband and I recently spent 6 nights on St. Barths while celebrating our honeymoon. We wanted a relaxing and private getaway without the hustle and bustle of a large resort. Le Sereno was absolutely the perfect fit for us! We received a bottle of champagne upon arrival, a rental car for the duration of our stay, and a couples massage at the spa as a part of the honeymoon package. The staff was always very friendly and accommodating. They were gracious enough to supply us with an I PAD to use during our stay, which we greatly appreciated along with the WiFi! We looked forward to our delicious breakfast each morning at Le Restaurant des Pêcheurs. I miss the bread basket! We are so lucky to have spent this special time at Le Sereno! Can't wait to visit again for our 1 year anniversary!

We spent 7 nights at this hotel in January after a hectic week in New York. We had a La Plage on the lagoon side, Room 27. It was wonderful, spacious and the bed was extremely comfortable. We had a sweeping view over the bay and it was very private. The pool area is usually very quiet and relaxing the pool staff (young men) are very friendly attentive and seem happy to oblige.

Frankly I expected a snobby attitude from the staff. Not so, they we young friendly and a lot of fun. Breakfast at the main restaurant (les pecheurs) was terrific and included in your room price. I was disappointed with lunch and dinner there, which we tried twice during our stay. The daily baked fish special was simply terrible. This is not really important as there are just so many wonderful other places to eat on this island. We found Eden Rock, Niki Beach and Do Brazil fantastic food at reasonable prices, not to mention a lot of fun (it was Russian New Year). We also enjoyed lunch at Le Guanhani next door, the L'angouste pasta was terrific.

Getting a car is a must, a convertible is the best idea. We liked watching the planes arrive at the airport, and driving around to different hotels for cocktails and enjoying the many different view all over this wonderful island. It seems everywhere is very friendly an accommodating. Make sure you take umbrellas if going to a beach, there is no shade and the sun really can burn.

Grab some champagne, pate cheeses etc from a local store in Gustavia and save a bundle. Prices are much cheaper than Australia.

I would stay at Le Sereno again. Ask for a La Plage level room on the Lagoon side, room 26 and up.

Bon Journee

Room Tip: La Plage rooms 26 and up on the Lagoon side.

As I write this review I am sitting on my patio at Le Sereno. From our greeting by the hotel driver at the airport, to our welcoming by Nellie, the hotel's director of guest relations and the subsequent welcoming by Sandrine and Christian Langlade, the new managers of the hotel, our experience was and is exceptional. We were made to feel at home and welcome. It seems everyone at the hotel speaks English (of course, knowlege of a little French helps), and the staff never responds with " No, I can't do that.". The staff is helpful, the rooms are lovely, the grounds immaculate. The restaurant "Le Pechure" serves perhaps the best fish on the island in a beautiful setting. It's manager, Jean-Pierre Guiroux is the consummate restaurateur, professional, warm, and efficient. This is, in my opinion, one of the top 2 or 3 restaurants on St. Barth.

In short, my wife and I have never had a better island vacation than at Le Sereno.

My wife and I spent two days three nights on St. Barths. We had been at the very large Viceroy on Anguilla for 6 nights prior. This resort was a nice getaway from the larger resort. The Lobby is simple and outdoors. Each room has it's own seperate entrance and either beach view or small garden. The bathrooms are kinda indoor / outdoor and the shower was awesome. The beach is very pretty, but small in this area. We at at the resturant for lunch and it was very expensive and not that great. We enjoyed the free breakfast and ate in the resturant once and room service the other days. Best was the free transport to and from the airport. The drivers were great and told us all about the island. Also, rent a car from the resort. It was easy and the pull the car around for you.

There is a small beach bar right next door and that was more reasonable for drinks and a real casual local.

Room Tip: The room we were in had the staff right behind it and it was noisy in the mornings. Ask for one wh...

We stayed at Le Sereno in December. The hotel is great... quiet and friendly staff. The rooms were nice, nothing over the top, but clean and private. Breakfast daily was delicious but preferred dinner elsewhere. The spa services were just ok, but overall we really enjoyed our stay because it wasn't a "scene".

We just returned from a week at Le Sereno for our honeymoon. St Barts is a perfect honeymoon spot. Enough lounging, resting mixed with great restaurants and site seeing on beaches. We thought Le Sereno was just perfect, in every way. It is the absolutely perfect honeymoon hotel. Romantic, quiet and very beautiful. If you want night life or to meet other people and have party on the beach, this is simply not the place for you. If you want to unwind, enjoy the beauty of your surrounding and the person you are with, it is perfect. The friendly and extremely observant, helpful staff was what made it a special place. Ice gets low in your beach cocktail...before you know it, he is there replenishing and leaving a silver bucket of ice for use. Never once did we have to flag anyone down. They just seemed to know when you need something. And so so gracious and friendly...at the front desk, valet, restaurant, beach. Everyone was quite lovely and that really made Le Sereno a special place for us. The rooms are gorgeous. We had one of the La Plage suites over the lagoon with a small terrace. You can either be on the lagoon side or the beach side but we found the lagoon ones offered much more privacy and a gorgeous view. The beach view La Plage rooms were at the other side of the pool and did not offer the same levels of privacy. If you are to get a La Plage room though, I would suggest requesting a higher room number. We were in room 24 and I would say 28 up. Reason being is that they are little more open on their terrace. Ours had a lot of vegation so mosquitos were an issue on the deck and it could smell if the air was still...just that lagoon smell. The higher number rooms were a little higher with less vegatation. I would request one of those.
The whole property (including the rooms) does a have a minimalistic decor and low key vibe to it that may not be for everyone. Its what we really loved but may be too quiet for some. And the decor considered plain by some...though we thought very pretty. We went to Eden Rock and Isle de France which are both similar level hotels. They are just very different from Le Sereno so if you are trying to decide between the three, it just depends on what you would like. Eden Rock is on a beautiful stretch of beach but where the hotel beds are is very small and crowded. A lot more action around the Eden Rock, but we thought it all felt very cramped. We had lunch twice at the Isle de France. It is on a beautiful beach. A very pretty hotel. I had read though that a lot of guests come back at the same time every year and know each other. Saw a lot of that so don't know if that would get old or not. It's a hotel that has a more high end vibe to it...lots of designer labels, etc. than Le Sereno. Fun to watch but a little much for me. We were always very happy to get back to our haven, Le Sereno. So just a matter of taste. Very pretty hotel though.
As for the beach at Le Sereno, much is written about. Yes, it is not the prettiest beach on the island. But it is a very pretty lagoon and watching the waves crash out on the reef is quite beautiful. Also, because it has no waves, much easier to float on rafts, paddle board, kayak etc. But you do have to go out about 50 yards to get white sand under your feet...that was no issue. We'd just swim or paddle out there and then just float around in the very calm beautiful water.
Be sure if you stay at Le Sereno to upgrade your car to a convertible. Well worth the extra cost. We had great fun in our convertible mini cooper. And you really do get out and about a lot more than on a typical island, typical resort. We loved St Barts and would love to go back. And can't imagine not staying at Le Sereno...I could be tempted to try Isle De France or Le Toiny but can't help but think I'd regret it.

Room Tip: If you do a La Plage level room, you can either be on the lagoon side or the beach side but we found...
