We stayed at Tom Beach Hotel so our continental breakfast was served at La Plage. The french pastries were fresh and tasty. One morning we ordered from the menu and were not really impressed with the entree so we stuck to the continental offering for the remainder of our stay. We did order a lunch to share on day and enjoyed it - very fresh ingredients, flavorful and well presented. The staff were very friendly and attentive yet not overbearing.

Awesome beach. Very come and next door to the Eden Rock. Cool casual walk up beach bar too. But hands down one of the best hamburgers I have ever had. Worth every penny of the 38 Euros!

We made a choice to do something a little less formal than the restaurant at Eden Rock and we were certainly pleased. The on the sand setting, was very nice. The ambiance was good (loved the video fish tank which looked close to realistic). The waiters and service were incredible.

I ordered the ceviche to start which was one of the best I have ever had. Very different than Mexico but equally or better in quality.

For my main course, I ordered the grilled lobster and it was out of this world. Very simple but tender and suite.

For desert, I had the lava cake.

Definitely come try this place out if you are looking for something a little less formal (and less expensive) than the hotel restaurants.

This is a great taste of France for visitors to St. Barts.

We are currently on a cruise on the Oceania Riviera. St. Barts today was our last port of call. Rather than taking a tour we decided to go off on our own for a day at the beach.

We shared a cab with another couple ($25 from the port) and arrived at one hotel where they didn't have any chaise chairs except for registered guests. The staff recommended we go down the beach, just short of the airport, to the Tom Beach Hotel. There we were able to rent chairs ($44 for 2 and an umbrella).

Our chairs were located next to the restaurant. So, after sunning ourselves we decided to lunch at La Plage, whose entrance is right off the beach.

What a wonderful lunch it was!

My wife and I shared a bottle of water (9 Euros), an order of Frites Maison (French Fries at 8 Euros) and an order of Mahi Mahi Maracuja (32 Euros).

Everything was delicious.

The fish was prepared perfectly. It was tasty and absolutely fresh. The filet was placed on top of a sweet potato purée, covered with grilled vegetables and onions. The portion was just about right to serve the two of us.

The French Fries had that perfection of taste that somehow we can't ever seem to get in the States.

While we dined a lovely French girl came by our table modeling beautifully designed clothes from the hotel's store. The waiter was friendly and helpful in advising us on just the right dish and the hostess could not have been nicer.

We also found the complimentary WiFi to be far better than on our ship. The hostess was kind enough to hook me up on my iPhone.

Our bill was pricey by American standards...certainly far more than we'd ever spend for lunch at home. At 49 Euros this was just short of $60. Adding a 15% tip our lunch was close to $70.

Was it worth it? You bet. It wasn't just about the food. The experience was worth every penny.

Life is short. It's great to live it...if only for a day...in the French style!
