“Honeymoon - the perfect moderate stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 5, 2013

My husband and I stayed here when on our honeymoon last October. St. Barths can obviously be a very expensive island and we wanted to be able to take advantage of as many great things as possible....when looking at hotel, there are some SERIOUSLY high end accommodations, however we were very pleased in our choice with Hotel LeVillage.
We booked in a Garden Cottage and were upgraded upon arrival to a Terrace Cottage: this is the way to go!!!! Especially if you are celebrating something special. The room isn't the fanciest by any means, but it was very clean and did the trick. Our favorite part was that the living space and kitchen were all outdoors, and very private. We spent most of our time out there. The view overlooking St. Jean Bay and the mountains of St. Barth was absolutely beautiful. I was actually happier having this large-scope view than I think I would have been if we were right on the ocean. The staff was very hospitable and friendly. The hotel itself is perched on a hill, so expect some up-hill climbs, depending on where your room is located. The pool is gorgeous. A typical french style continental is served every morning. We couldn't have been happier with the location, especially seeing as how it was our first time to the island. St. Jean is perfect - there is shopping, plenty of restaurants and beaches....with the expeption of the craziness of Gustavia. We traveled all over the island every day, never stayed in the same spot...so if you have any questions for me, don't hesitate! :-) Over all, staying in Hotel LeVillage enabled us to really enjoy ourselves financially on this trip - lavish dinners, a little boutique shopping, etc. without breaking the bank. We would absolutely stay here again, and it looks like the room categories go up quite a bit higher than what we booked into as well, so there are lots of options!

Room Tip: I would suggest a Terrace Cottage at least. The view will be spectacular and we truly loved having t...

It was awesome and the staff really go out of their way to help you. The pool is as beautiful as the picture. You can walk to the beach from your hotel room, but there are hills. The sights from your balcony are gorgeous. The kitchen area is outside your room and was a quaint difference from other places I have stayed in. They supplied these neat bug zappers with a flashlight on the end of it. There are mosquitoes all over the island, so we recommend the mosquito milk they sell there on the island at their local grocery store. It keeps them away and soothes the bites you received before purchasing. This is a very tropical island, but well worth the trip to see!

This is a lovely hotel with 23 rooms of different sizes dotted amongst a lush garden on the hill. We stayed in no. 22 and it is highly recommended as it is an upper level room with a private balcony with beautiful views. Some of the cottages are spilt with an upper and lower level and I don't think the lower level would be as nice. A simple but delicious included French breakfast served on a lovely patio was a delightful way to start each day. The central pool and deck is also very inviting and the fitness room while small is pretty good. The rooms are thoughtfully fitted out to meet traveller's needs and to handle the hot weather. The rooms are a simple coastal theme decor and very comfortable. Not high end luxury but well above basic. The reception staff were very helpful with booking cars and tips for restaurants etc. Bamboo the house dog was disappointingly indifferent to the guests. It is a short walk down a steep hill to the nearest beach and there are several restaurants in 5 minutes walking distance. The rooms are well set up for self catering and it is a 20 minute walk to a supermarket. A car is recommended for at least part of your stay as there are some lovely beaches to visit, much nicer than the nearby St Jean's beach which is pleasant enough but elsewhere e.g. Saline is far more wild and secluded. All in all, VSJ is highly recommended.

Room Tip: Choose an upper level room. Room 22 is highly recommended.

We stayed in a superior cottage from 4May to 14May2013, and everything about the hotel was just about perfect! The people in the office were wonderful, the housekeeping staff were so cheerful & friendly...and also did a great job, and we particularly enjoyed Carole in the breakfast room and looked forward to seeing her cheerful, lovely smile every morning. Our superior cottage was perfect too. We just can't say enough good things, and can't wait to go back.

We have been coming to this hotel since the early 90's. It is always the perfect place for us. The location within walking distance to St. Jean Bay is ideal. The rooms are not particuarly luxurious, but just right, especially given the relative bargain. The staff is friendly and very helpful. I wish the beds were a bit more comfortable, but they are adequate. We enjoy having the small outdoor kitchen for those nights when we just want take-out and a great bottle of wine from La Cave in Lorient. We will definitely be back next year!

Just back from a week - stayed in No. 6 Junior Terrace Suite.

Our room was very large (2 baths, including one outdoor), spotless, great big balcony overlooking the bay, nice outside kitchen, comfortable bed, high quality design, look and feel - everything clean and bright, maid service daily, and all in all a very comfortable stay. Nice pool, and a good gym as well.

The place is easy to find, ample parking, and although there's a short walk up the hill we didn't find it unmanageable at all. The staff were friendly and helpful, and wifi is free and available in-room, at reception, and in the place used for breakfast. Didn't get the comments re: breakfast posted by some =- it's only 12 euros or so for a good selection of pastries, coffee, bacon, eggs, cereal etc and the view is lovely as well. There is no bar, but there's a fridge with wine/drinks outside the reception and a good library of books inside.

It's only a short walk down the hill to Nikki Beach/Eden Rock, or turn right for several places to eat in the St Jean area. We didn't find the road outside the property to be busy or noisy.

We ate at Eden Rock, Nikki Beach and others (will review those) and The Hideaway and Pimento all nearby, and the supermarket is only 5 mins away by car.

I read the reviews carefully before we booked this, and had been concerned by some reports of (a) its not a full service hotel (b) poor breakfast (c) expensive (d) bugs (e) staff

Well (a) is correct but most people don't want an evening bar so this won't impact on your enjoyment. (b) the breakfasts were very good, stuff done to order - no American breakfast buffets, but not needed. (c) we didn't think so, for the size, location and quality of the rooms/space; (e) a few mozzies around, left out some jam in the kitchen once and saw ants next day - it's the caribbean! (f) we found the staff to be customer focused and helpful, especially when we had a problem with our in-room wifi.

So all in all we'd recommend the location as ideal in terms of having a great beach a few minutes way, several good eating/drinking choices including Nikki Beach's Thursday evening entertainment, plus Gustavia 10 mins away and supermarkets/shops 5 minutes away.

Definitely a recommend from us.

Room Tip: Room 6 was fantastic - separate sitting room, second bathroom outside, huge patio area with table an...
