If you like snorkeling,go to shell beach. You have to go out to the rocks to see all the really cool fish, but it doesn't take awhile to get out to the rocks. There are hundreds of seargent majors, and a lot of blue tang. Sea Urchins are common, and so are spotted goatfish. There is also a lot of beach glass, and I found a rare type which is being made into a necklace. There are A LOT shells ( hence the name.) Shell beach is my absolute favorite beach. Definitely go there.

Located right in Gustavia, this is not my first choice for swimming, but I love this beach because of the amazing restaurant located on it and because of the shells and sea glass.

This is the beach we went to when it was rough on the others. Its waves were mostly easy and it's also the easiest to get to from town, not requiring driving multiple hairpin turns up or down roller coaster inclines...although sometimes the cruise boaters drop by for a couple of hours, and park themselves center stage directly in front of the refreshment cafe, we usually placed our towels to take advantage of the few outstanding boulders to the left( looking at the sea) while we noticed that the locals are most likely on the very far right....yes this beach seems a to be full of small shells ( but not always )

The beach here is great. Millions of shells create a hard surface, mostly cool to the feet. Park anywhere on the hill jsut before the restaurant (Do Brazil). This is one of the more portected southern beaches and has decent snorkeling. The noise of the water through the shells is pretty cool too, especially at ebb tide.

Be wary, the beach is somewhat small compared to other St. Barth beaches and it is not uncommon for couples to, let's politely say "enjoy one another's company" just past the larger rocks. If you are not bothered by that, go farther down and you will have the shore to yourself. If public sex disturbs you, stay to the right or prior to the rocks!

As for the restaurant, some of the dishes are wonderful, but they are VERY EXPENSIVE - perhaps the most overpriced on the island. Two drinks, a caprese salad and pineapple cost over 60 euros at lunch! (not big fancy alcoholic drinks either). Just check the prices first.

Note: Not uncommon for celeb sightings here as some of the fancy rental cats and smaller yachts moor in this harbor for a quick dip and a bite to eat, avoiding the more crowded Gustavia proper.
