“Excellent location , poor management, not totally clean”
Reviewed June 5, 2013

The location is outstanding and the gentleman who runs the hotel is friendly and helpfull. And there finish all the good comments. The property is made by cheap matterials but this would not be a [problem either is it was neat and clean. The pilows have not been changed from the previous guests and smelled their hair spray. Disgusting. The windows had not protecting nets and all the insects from the forest came to the bed all night i struggled to get some sleep. Nor was available a mosquito spray to protect for few hours. I become annoying with the hippie Europeans who live and run hotels outside Europe and they dont care for these simple matters as if they make us a favor or give us the "privilege" of wild experience. NO the hotel is not good , nor neat nor clean and they dont understand our needs. Too many smiles without specific action is useless!!!

Room Tip: Chose an other hotel not room!

Stayed in one of the budget cottages at El Momo. Worth the climb up the 60 or so steps. Friendly, has almost like a hostel-feel about it. Clean, basic room. Nice communal area where they serve breakfast.

We stayed at El Momo in the "Cottage in the Sky" for 5 nights and loved it!! Our view was incredible...it was hard to get motivated to leave!! The cottage we stayed in had a lovely kitchen and beautiful porch. We were able to stay-in for a couple nights and cook dinner and have our own private meal, high up the hill. Our room was cozy, we rarely had any of the doors closed and were always basking in a wonderful breeze. Our room had everything we were expecting. It was like indoor-camping, but that is exactly what we were looking for.

Michael was an incredible host. He made sure we had everything we needed and had great ideas for hiking and exploring the island. Every morning, he greeted us with a delicious breakfast and coffee in "dining area". The view at breakfast is breathtaking!! We enjoyed having an "honor-system" bar to get drinks at night, instead of having to walk into town.

The location on El Momo was perfect for us. It is a little hike into and out of town but it isn't too far. We were still able to go into town and get groceries. The walk is actually pretty nice. The hike up to our cottage entailed a lot of stairs, but after a day or two we got used to it.

The pool at El Momo was also great, with a beautiful view. After diving all morning and then the walk back up to the cottages, the pool was a perfect retreat.

We couldn't be more happy with our stay at El Momo. It was incredibly romantic and the privacy and views that the "Cottage in the Sky" offer is unbeatable. Thanks again to Michael for all of your great conversation and hospitality.

Room Tip: Definitely try to get the "Cottage in the Sky"!!!! It was AMAZING!!

The host, Michael, was a charming guy, excusing himself for the run down condition of the place, located with spectacular views, but explaining he was only managing the place for a week. He cooked a very tasty breakfast in the morning for us.

Well, these are about the only positive things to say about El Momo

Wow, paying a bill of 270 USD for a garden storage cabin (price for 2 sheds + breakfast)? This shabby place was not even cleaned for a year or 2.... Just like a stupid wish cookie in a filthy chinese restaurant cannot stop the horror, this place was overloaded with 'creative texts' allover, litterally everywhere, till the (broken and leaking) toiletpot and the 'idea boxes'

Come on, this is robbery!! For a pricelevel of 10 to 25 USD/night you would excuse many things, provided it was at least clean. but when you are asked a standard price but don't even get basics AND it's filthy (no hot water, no soap, no mosquito protection on windows or mosquito nets, mattresses on a solid sheet of plywood, pillows filled with old garbage, dirty towels,....) you can only leave with a bad aftertaste.

The place is not understandable at any level: in comparison with the absolute cleanliness on the island, it is shockingly inconsistent.

Room Tip: Avoid this place: there is to my opinion no curing possible. This heavenly location deserves to bull...

I returned to El Momo from May 2-4. My only regret is that I didn't stay longer, but I had spent the week before in Statia and had to return home. Andries and Garfield were 100% accommodating in making sure that my stay was stress-free, relaxing, enjoyable, and perfect - all the things a vacation should be. There is quite a hike to get up the stairs, but I'm telling you that it is worth it. The view is amazing. It is not comparable to anywhere I've been, and I travel often. When the sun goes down and you can no longer see the beauty of the views, the sounds of nature will compensate for it. The tree frogs sing a lovely song to put you into the deepest sleep you have ever experienced. The cottages are cozy and welcoming. The view from the shower is amazing (open-air, if preferred). I spent some time just laying by the pool doing nothing, which was part of the enjoyment of staying here at El Momo. You are forced to relax and decompress, which is just what I did.

This was my second stay at El Momo. I plan on returning for a third stay, only I will stay longer this time. Saba is a very inviting island, and Winwardside is an easy walk from El Momo. I highly recommend staying here!

Stayed 5 nights in Cottage in the Sky. Views to die for! Very private. Joost and D.J were always available when we needed something. The breakfast and communal dinner we had were excellent.
Definitely strengthened our legs walking up and down the stairs and into town.
If you want more creature comforts and pampering, this may not be the place for you. But if you are self sufficient, adventurous and love simple and unique, this is the place for you.

Room Tip: Cottage in the Sky for privacy and killer views. Had a sink, two burner stove and small fridge. Enou...

We had reserved for 5 nights and left after the first night. The cottages are run down and filthy. They have not been maintained. The paint on the terraces was green and the wood rotting. We had ants crawling on us while we slept and wouldn't even unzip our suitcases. The decorations in the cottage were computer printouts tacked to the walls with push pins and words hand painted on the walls....felt like I was in a kindergarden class. The bedspread was old, faded, stained and dirty. We can sympathize that there had been a drought and rain water was scarce, but we are paying regular rates for the cottage so I think being asked to shower for only 30 seconds, lather and then rinse for 30 seconds was a bit unreasonable. Especially considering the pool was only 2/3rds full and the bottom was GREEN, so swimming wasn't an option. We camp and cottage and travel regularly so we are used to staying in modest and even rustic accomodations, but this was not acceptable.

I will say that I think El Momo was once beautiful and still has that same potential if some money is spent on maintenance and upgrades. The views are fantastic. Staff was friendly.

I would not recommend El Momo in its current state.
