Okay. Well, El Momo is the place to go when on Saba if you want to be treated like a good friend. DJ and Joost make you feel super welcome. After a brief tour of the facilities, you are left alone with your cottage and nature. The cottages are simple, but clean and all needed for an awseome vacation stay is there. No TV (this is great, actually) but for the person who can really not relax, there is wireless internet. Shower and toilet in completely seperate little building next to each cottage for optimal serenity. The pool is just big enough to be able to swim after the little uphill walk. Funny detail is to have to cross the pool over a little bridge in order to get to the office and the cottages. Very cute!

El Momo also produces very interesting tastes of rum you will not find anywhere else, which are a must to try out. The honor bar is a nice touch that kind of tells you how well you are treated and how much your stay is appreciated.

I had a fantastic time and will be revisiting, hopefully not too long from now.

Room Tip: The only reason I put "good" instead of excellent for Sleep Quality is because I wasn'...

I visited El Momo several times. For me it is the perfect get-a-way from hectic Sint Maarten. The nature is so beautiful with all the tropical flowers and palm trees, singing birds and sometimes you can see iguana's. The cottages are clean, cosy and typical Saban style.
Breakfast is a joy with fresh fruit, homemade bread and eggs the way you want them. The restaurant is located in the center of the cottages overlooking the valley and ocean. Every tuesday and thursday a fine eat-a-long dinner is served and once on a while there is a diner chantant, the managers/cooks are also singers.
The pool surrounded by tropical flowers overlooking Mount Scenery is the perfect place for a refreshing dive in the clear water or a chat with one of the charismatic managers or other geusts if you feel like it.
The main activities on the island are hiking and diving which I both enjoy very much. I will defenitly keep on visiting Saba as often as possible and that will surely be at El Momo.

My sister and I chose Saba to visit as part of our Caribbean 2012 vacation. Sadly we only chose three nights on the island. After all our flights had been booked and we researched further we realised the error we had made. Having said that, we didn't dwell on the fact we only had two full and two part days on Saba and instead made the most of our time. We went diving/snorkeling, hiking, climbed Mt Scenery and had to descend while a squall was going through, walked the easy walk down to Windwardside and not so easy walk back up to El Momo at least half a dozen times during our short stay, took many photos, sampled typical Saban food and beverages from a variety of restaurants and bars (I didn't realise there were so many to choose from), enjoyed the hospitality of DJ and Joost with their greeting rum along with the recovering rum once we had when we returned from our Mt Scenery hike, had an enjoyable stay in our Iguana Cottage with amazing views from our shower and toilet - we kept the door open most of the time and enjoyed the view while we had it, ate breakfast late every morning while we waited on my sister to join us - our hosts plied me with coffee to keep me going, took a picnic lunch with us the day we climbed Mt Scenery, fell in love with the scenery, singing tree frogs and crickets - even enjoying the company of a frog in our room one night, and mostly enjoyed the ambience of our mini-vacation in Saba with DJ and Joost. I would recommend El Momo to any intrepid traveller: enjoy and have fun :)

Room Tip: Make sure you don't mind getting a little fitter while on your vacation... there are 110 steps u...

First off: If you have any issues with climbing stairs, high humidity or adapting to an eco lifestyle with compostable toilets and no television, then you're probably better off in a resort on a different island... But since you're checking for accommodation on Saba and should be in for a bit of adventure and activity, El Momo is truly the perfect base for it! I already knew and loved the island from a day trip several years ago, but the three days at El Momo definitely added a lot to the Saba experience! Located conveniently close to Windwardside, this is the place to stay at and rest after hikes (or dives). The setting is just beautiful: a hillside property with lush tropical vegetation, homegrown fruits and a handful of airy one-room cottages in between. No matter if you come over from further away, or like in our case just from a more busy and "developed" neighbouring island, this is truly a location to leave normal life behind, experience something completely different and feel accordingly remote from stress and routine. Saba with its small community is the friendliest place we've been visiting in the Caribbean, of course also thanks to the hosts at El Momo who greeted and treated us just like old friends! We really appreciate this very personal and welcoming atmosphere at El Momo. The hosts are very responsive to all needs, provide excellent food and service, and are always up for a friendly chat, but of course never crowded us! So just the same we've also been enjoying the peace and privacy of our cottage and the impressive nature around. We completely recommend to stay here and hope to be back there as soon as possible! Thanks!

My brother and I stayed here during a quick visit to check out the island's medical school, and while this may be the closest I've ever come to camping, I loved every minute of our stay! Joost and DJ were amazing hosts - they were always pleasant, and thought of every little detail from stocking an always-open honor bar with snacks and beverages to welcoming new guests with a handwritten chalkboard sign at the entrance. The cottages are arranged so that you can leave all the windows and doors open but still have privacy, and the bathrooms are best kept open for ventilation, but still private and fully functioning. They also recycle and are environmentally friendly at El Momo. They will make you breakfast and lunch, even snacks to pack for a long day trip of hiking or snorkeling (they can recommend both, and have a book full of activity/dining ideas in each room). I really can't say enough great things about this place - the views are beautiful, from the ocean to Mt. Scenery and I can't wait to return. My only warning is that the stairs are not for the disabled or very weak. That said, don't let them frighten you off just because you aren't in great shape - they are manageable, even with a heavy backpack on my shoulders!
P.S. Joost was awesome about helping us keep up with our WinAir booking - he was the one to alert us to a last minute change in flight times. If it wasn't for him, we would have missed the flight! He also arranged for a taxi to be waiting when we arrived. So nice!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Sunshine cottage, with the best view from the shower! Also, Donna is an excellent t...

El Momo Cottages is one of the best places Saba has to offer. It's not the fanciest of them all. But it offers a unique Saba indoors-outdoors experience: on the one hand the lovely cottages provide a roof over ones head, a bed, some of them also a private shower; and on the other hand there is no glass in the windows and you can leave the door open at all times because there is absolutely no crime on the island of Saba. And no mosquitoes either. And as the cottages are not jammed one next to another you can still have your privacy even with the door open - especially if you're staying at the finest one that has a very self-explanatory name: Cottage in the Sky. It is well worth the climb up the steep stairs.

The best features of El Momo apart from being very close to nature are the extremely friendly and helpful owner Andries and the unbelievable views from all points on the property. It also has a swimming pool and a semi-outdoor dining room where the breakfast is served. The honour bar offers delicious homemade flavoured rums (made by Andries himself).

And last but not least - it's the cheapest place on the island and a great value for money.
A place I would love come back to.

Two brothers stayed for the weekend on Saba at El Momo cottages. We enjoyed our stay very much. On Booby Hill (what's in the name) we had a fantastic view over the ocean. El Momo cottages offers basic, but very nice cottages, very good breakfast with fresh products, staff with high standards, they make your stay 100%! We had a great time on Saba! Thanks to EL MOMO Cottages!
