Certificate of Excellence

I see most previous reviewers award this place the full 5 points for "excellent", and after some hesitation I decided to do the same. The cottages at the Cottage Club are very spacious and comfortable, with some touches of luxury (flat screen tv, iPhone docking station, and some nicely arranges decorative branches), some aspects which are rather plain and simple (all the kitchen equipment, the tiles on the floor and the doors, free wifi only in the lobby area, no proper blind out curtains), and some things that require a bit better maintenance (leaking window mosquito nets, a faulty light switch, rusty window panes).

The really good thing about this hotel is its tranquility, its views of Mount Scenery 300 meters up and the sea 300 meters below, and the central location in Windwardside, which is the main tourist hub on the island with nearly all shops and restaurants located in this small town. The hotel also has free and plentifull parking space, if you chose to rent a car (which I would recommend for at least one day during your stay so that you can experience the fun of driving Saba's Road, and see all corners of the island at your own pace without a taxi driver in your back). The managers know the island very well and provide information and opinions on everything that you ask them for.

The main thing I did not like about the hotel is its breakfast facility: the food itself is taken good care off, with a piece of bread, cheese, jam, fruits and eggs made to order, but it is served at a large communal table in the lobby. If you want to mingle with other guests than that is of course great, because they cannor escape you. But if you prefer not to be disturbed than this is not the right place for you. We tried it once, and then chose to have breakfast elsewhere, and the managers were kind enough to make a few suggestions of which the Tropics restaurant (which is affiliated to Juliana's Hotel) was an excellent choice, with goodies like American pancakes and French toast at reasonable prices (we paid $15 per person at Tropics against $10 per person at the CC).

My girlfriend and I just got back to the States from our vacation to Saba, and one of the first things I'm doing is sitting down to write a review of the Cottage Club. If you're considering going to Saba, then you know it's not the easiest place to get to, but our experience on the island more than made up for its remote location.

As soon as we arrived, Chris and Ina (the managers at the Cottage Club) sat down with us over a complimentary cold drink, showed us around a map of the island, recommended terrific food options, and organized a guide for our hike. Throughout our trip, they helped us with anything we needed, from making restaurant reservations to booking taxis, chatting about life on the island and whipping up fresh and tasty breakfast in the morning. Chris even shared with us his favorite little spot to watch the sun set (highly recommended - ask him about it).

The rooms are quaint and cute (but if you came all the way to Saba, you should spend most of your time outside anyway), the views are exceptional, and the location is right on the outskirts of town. We loved the communal breakfast table and getting to chat with other guests about their plans for the day. The best part, however, was being able to look from the bed out onto the porch and see the million-dollar view. I can't recommend the Cottage Club highly enough.

Not sure I can add anything that hasn't been written already, other than to confirm the good reports of other reviewers. We stayed 5 nights and were sorry we couldn't stay longer. We did a lot of hiking and would recommend bringing good footwear, as some of the trails can be a bit rough and muddy. Also, be sure to go up Maskehorne Hill, especially if you're not game for the hike up to Mt. Scenery (which is often clouded in). It's only about a half hour up from Windwardside and the view is great.

Treated like Gold from check in to check out, my stay was blessed with the caring attention of Ina and Christos, hosts at the Cottage Club, Saba Island Dutch Antilles. I had been there the year before and the then hosts, and Sophie and Patrick also treated me like gold. What was so special is that They are the very essence of what Saba is all about. A laid back, friendly island and people who care that We who visit have the best stay possible. Were they helpful . . . yes, were they friendly . . . yes, are they REAL? YES! OK, so now you know I am a FAN of Ina and Christos and COTTAGE CLUB! If you ever get a chance to chill on Saba, check out the Cottage Club, you won't regret it, hey just ask me. We stayed at The Cottage Club for four nights, and enjoyed it a lot. Very hospitable and relaxed. We went hiking, which was pretty strenuous but absolutely beautiful, and had dinner twice at Eden, also a very nice place with a great chef.
Saba itself is a good choice if you want to take a breather from the much more touristic and busier islands like St Martin.

We stayed here over the Christmas period and spent 9 nights with Christos and Ina the excellent managers of the hotel. They were helpful and attentive without being obtrusive. We had gone here to get away from it all and the Cottage Club made this so much easier - we relaxed on our verandah with clear views of the Caribbean; relaxed by the pool with its geckos and clear view of the Caribbean; relaxed whilst walking around the island with continula clear views of the Caribbean. This is very much a place for taking it easy, unless you are divers (which we aren't!); the friendliness of the staff and other islanders was great and may our visit hassle-free and ideal. Thank you!
