The trail to Mount Scenery is basicly a seriously long flight of stairs, but quite doable. The trail can be slippery because of the moss, but they try to keep it under control even though it is not easy. Just be extra carefull when it is raining or has been raining. The view from the top is really amazing and it is the highest peak in the Netherlands.

It was a very cloudy day which made the trek upwards all the more exciting. however, the precipitation made the stairs very slipper so I would advise one to get a good pair of hiking shoes. The view was stunning and reminded me of a Jurassic park scene. We were literally in the clouds and we were very lucky the clouds cleared up a bit for us to get a good look of the view. If you love hiking than this is one trek you should make :)

I thought I had some decent hiking shoes for taking on this climb, but they were no match for the moss present throughout the climb and even worse the descent. My wife's sneakers did not seem to have the same issue, but she still slid several times. We started from the trail shop and grabbed good sticks. The ascent was pretty much on target with the 90 minute estimate. The descent actually took a few minutes more. Unfortunately the clouds refused to move so we did not get the spectacular views that others experienced, but we can now say we've been to the highest place in the Netherlands!

The view from the top is nothing short of spectacular and is definitely worth the effort of climbing the 1064 stairs. Make sure you stop at the Trail Shop and pick up a walking stick before embarking on the hike. The stick will come in handy on the way down. Steps can be slippery, especially during, or just after, one of the frequent showers. Bring plenty of water, as there are no concessions on the way up. Plan between 90 and 120 minutes one-way, depending upon your experience and conditioning. I would not recommend this hike for very young children, due to the height and unevenness of some of the steps. If you make it to the top you will be rewarded by a wonderful view over Saba and some of the adjacent islands.

Sign says 90 minutes but I would say figure 3 hours. As you get higher be careful as some of the steps get covered in moss and are slippery.
