“Only for the French - just okay”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 2, 2012

It was just okay. But I would not go back again.
I was at Club Med Turkoise in Turks and Caicos only two months earlier in September 2012 (3 tridents) and decided to try this one because it is a 4 tridents. True, the room here at Les Boucaniers was nicer but all in all the holiday at Turkoise and the whole experience was way better there than here.
The major turn off is that seriously they all speak only French. Sure you have the local language GO but it is unbelievable that the gym instructor or the diving guys do not speak all fluent English, some of them not a word at all.
With the typical French "grandeur" I found that people were quite arrogant and not genuinely friendly.
I would not recommend it unless you are French, then yes you would feel welcomed and at home.

We stayed 1 week in November at Club M. The Front Desk Team has many lessons to learn. A week starting bad because of un-skilled, arrogant and non trained staff is hard to compensate.
How can it be that difficult to organise a smoth and quick check in procedure ? How can it be a surprise that people, having a booking, arrives with one of few flights from Europe ? And how difficult is it to check the suites/room before presenting them to the guests? Our terrace was 50% covered by black mould. Not acceptable.
Having said that, the rest of the stay was very good. All team members in Restaurants, Bars, Activities etc. were outstanding welcoming and nice. And very patient with the some 500 guests profiting from the all inclusive package. The beach, the water and the sun completed the picture.
Surprisingly enough, during 7 days of stay we saw no signs of local management on the location - maybe time for Club Med Top Management to step down from their shining offices, wherever they are ?

My wife and I just returned from Club Med Buccaneer's Creek and had wonderful time. It was my wife's first time at Club Med and she loved it. I read the reviews that some guests did not think the club was accomodating to Americans but I disagree. It is true that 99% of the guests are francophones (Martinique is, after all, part of France), so the staff naturally/understandably will assume that guests speak french. My wife and I only knew enough french to say the most basic phrases, but we did just fine. Even the GOs who don't speak English will try to help you if you signal that you need assistance (we actually found that most of the GOs who only understood basic English phrases went out of their way to say "hi" to us so that they could practice speaking English. Two of the GOs named Stefan and Clement who worked in the windsurfing shack were particularly nice to us.). The food was really good (french cuisine dominated the menu, even on the theme nights) and the wine/drinks were also good (the ti'punch is the local Martinique drink of choice). Also, the new chef du village Nathalie was always present to greet people and seemed very hands-on.

Some things that I wish I knew before going are as follows:

1. If you do not book your flights with Club Med you must arrange your own transport to/from the airport. The reason for this is local taxi unions, which seems believable and is not Club Med's fault. A taxi ride from the airport at "off" hours (i.e., any time after 8pm) requires a massive surcharge. We arrived on American Airlines at 10pm and would have had to pay over 100 euros for the 45 minute taxi ride to the airport, EXCEPT that Club Med arranged a taxi for us for 80 euros flat, which is still a lot of money but was greatly appreciated. To reserve a taxi with Club Med you must call the reception and ask to make the taxi reservation via e-mail. This was very helpful for us, as the taxi driver was waiting with a sign to take us to the Club from the baggage area. You can rent cars from the airport (we recommend Jumbo Car en.jumbocar.com/), but the kiosks all close at 10pm. If you rent a car from the airport you can drive to the club, but make sure you have a GPS handy as the roads near the club can be difficult to figure out. There is no public transport to the club.

2. The roads in Martinique are excellent. I have been all over the Caribbean and these roads were the best I have seen, so rent a car! There is a permanent Europcar desk at Club Med where you can rent a car, and if they are totally booked the front desk will make other arrangements for you (there are multiple car rental companies nearby in St. Anne - once again we recommend Jumbo Car). There is a gas station right next to the road leading to Club Med, so no need to drive around looking for a place to top off. The car can be left at Club Med's free parking lot and Jumbo Car will pick it up the next day if you rent it from St. Anne.

3. Bring mosquito repellent if you tend to get bit (kind of a no-brainer, but we overlooked it when packing).

4. Martinique is not a developing country, so don't expect developing country prices if you venture out of the club.

5. There is a system for beach towels that we never quite figured out.

6. If you need anything, English speakers should contact the front desk and requests assistance.

7. There are two daily snorkeling trips that are free for guests.

8. If you have kids, this Club has no kids club. Plus, all the kids on vacation there speak french, so if your kids are not comfortable communicating with non-English speakers they probably will be spending a lot of time with you....

That's it! We recommend this Club (I have been to five other Club Meds and thought that this one was great).

Room Tip: Just ask for a good room.

The situation of the club is perfect ....but if you are going and expect a very nice and friendly service just forget it !
If you want to experience how to clean your own table to enjoy your meals or if you dare going to the restaurant 15 minutes they are closing .... You will not be able to eat what you want and if you ask for something they will nicely answer : Non !
Worst service ever.... For 2000 euros a week per person .....

Stayed there with my husband for 1 week for New Years eve. The club is beautiful, the GOs not always friendly and often looking down at you!!. The Chef de village Samuel Morgante (at the time) was very nice, polite and always said hello to us. The local employees were super friendly and we did have some good laughs with some of them. The food was good, and actually very good over the festivities. But the music was too much, mainly techno stuff style Boom Boom for the new year eve party, no range and the champagne from the fountain that night was not drinkable. We are both in our 40s but that New year Eve party was more for people in their 20s in my opinion. Rooms generally good, good sports. Would go back but not for New Year. We've choosen club med la palmeraie this year, Hoping it will be better!!
Oh don't forget your Jungle anti tropical mosquitoes spray (Deet max power), plug in tablets for the room, paratiko bracelets, and monoi oil (for your legs againsts yen yen) it is full of it!!!
And finally never bring dirty towel back in your room (again yen yens)

Room Tip: Ask for a room near the Tower, we did not pay for sea view but still got it at an angle, bonus!!

Great destination for all inclusive. La Martinique is clean, we did an island tour. People are very nice. Infrastructure of the club is not luxurious but very fine. Food met our expectation: very good. Do not miss the tour with La Blanche Hermine with Éric and Véronique. Even is there is no formal structure for children our son enjoyed himself with windsurfing and snorkling.
We did very nice encounters but miss the time where the Club had only large table which forced people to....

We have just returned from spending a week in magnificent Martinique and had a lovely time as we have become accustomed to with Club Med. However I would like to say that this resort is a very different Club Med to what we have experienced at other Club Med resorts and would not like to think that if any first timers paint all other resorts with the same brush. I had read honest reviews before booking that the resort is very French, however presumed ( wrongly ) that the the team would still accommodate international guests as other resorts do in other areas of the world. I am not sure if this is due to the current management or wether it is due to the fact it is a French owned island and the resort attracts 98% French guests. We personally would prefer to see that the other 2% are more warmly welcomed - maybe a brief 'bonjour ' in their native lingo as other Club Med's do at the beginning of the evening show wouldn't hurt ? Restaurant service was lacking compared to others, seemed hard work to find a table rather than be shown one and we were surprised at the lack of table service especially at breakfast. However my family and myself had an enjoyable time, although no kids clubs our kids had a good time. Watch out for the crabs as there's heaps inland by the rooms, ensure to pack mosquito spray, 30+ suncream, phrase book, stray cats in restaurant area appear to be harmless and welcomed - would highly recommend the St Lucia day trip & hats off to JJ & Frankie ! Would definitely go again but will investigate nearby islands prior to returning. Hope this helps : )
