“Studio Esperanza in Vieques Puerto Rico”
Reviewed January 28, 2017 for a stay in January 2017

This is the second time my husband and I have stayed with Michelle and Juan. Last year we stayed with another couple in the house and this year my husband and I stayed in the studio apartment. We were extremely happy with both stays. The spaces are beautifully decorated (they are both artists), very well organized with all things that are necessary for cooking and enjoying "beach/snorkeling" life in a quaint little village. Both Michelle and Juan are helpful with anything you need and good information about the island. Staying at the home of people who actually are from Vieques gives a wonderful insight into the real island culture. We have been to Vieques six times and will continue to come back from from now on always staying with Michelle and Juan.

“Perfect Vieques experience”
Reviewed January 6, 2017 for a stay in December 2016

First - *highly* recommend!! The pictures were accurate and you get exactly what Michelle describes. So *do not* hesitate to book this lovely little tree house! The studio is spacious and airy. There is an air conditioner for you to use for sleeping, but we were fine with the fans that were provided. There are screens on every window and door (not something you find in all island homes), so the mosquitos were not a problem and we did not use the mosquito net around the bed. You may, however, share your space with a little gecko. In other words, you are in the tropics! This place was impeccably clean. There was not a piece of dust, dirt, or mold anywhere. Even the deck railing and floor were clean! We opted to take our shoes off at the door and then were able to keep the inside free of most sand also. There is a shower outside so you can rinse yourself and items off before you go upstairs to your deck. Once you are upstairs, you are set with everything you need. So the stairs should not be a problem. Inside, the kitchen appliances all work perfectly (you do need to light the stove with a match). The refrigerator made ice quickly (overnight), and kept everything appropriately cold. We cooked a simple meals at home. We also packed food and drinks for the beach every day and there was a small cooler for our use. Michelle also provides "director-type" chairs for your use. If you don't find the perfect beach with a palm tree just for you, then you can rent an umbrella from one of the local vendors (we used Fun Brothers because we could reserve before we arrived via their website). You can also rent beach chairs, if that is what you prefer. Speaking of renting, we rented Michelle's SUV. It is old and a little "loose in the joints," but we found it serviceable for our needs. The bed was very comfortable. We slept well, *with the ear plugs*. There are many neighborhood chickens, roosters, dogs, and horses. They are noisy and can be very raucous all night long. However, with the fan (white noise) and the ear plugs, we were not unduly disturbed. The beauty of this place is that it is in the "real" Vieques, not some sterile resort that may be located on Any Island, Caribbean. Now, about the location! WOW! The only time we used the car was to drive to the beach and to Isabella for groceries, and dinner outside of town once. We parked the car in the yard after the beach and walked to town every night. The restaurants and bars in Esperanza are lovely. You can catch the sunset from the barstools facing the ocean and watch the people walking the Malecon. The neighborhood is safe and the neighbors will wave to you (some asked if we were lost). So, to sum it up, don't hesitate to book...
