Casa Ladera
Reviewed December 6, 2013

We spent 3 nights at Casa Ladera and it was truly wonderful. The house was comfortable, clean and gave us all the comforts of home. There was a shower outside to wash the sand off your feet before coming in, a washer and dryer (and soap!) to keep our towels/suits clean and a comfortable living space to hang out when you were at home. The pool was clean and nice and a grill and table outside allowed us to cook out and enjoy our food by the pool. Grocery store is within walking distance as is the beach. The house is gated so you feel safe. There is a patio right off the familiy room that you can sit outside by the pool. Perfect way to start the day. There is a patio on the roof of the other apartment that you can sit outside on and there are big iguanas in the trees that are super fun to look at. We stayed in the bottom floor with 2 bedrooms and a bath and a full kitchen. Athough it may seem weird to share this space with others - it was not! It was nice to have a few other folks around. Everything we needed was there! We loved Vieques! Very private, non-touristy island but so beautiful! Make sure you go to Blue Beach and go find the Black Beach (Playa Negra)! It is worth it.

We stayed in the upstairs 2 bedrooms at Case Ladera. It was MUCH, MUCH better than expected.
You could walk to the beach from the house. It was very private. This is a great place for family vacations. Renee was super and tended to our every need. We will go back.

We spent almost a week at Casa Ladera in the lovely, little Casita. It is a 2 bedroom house off of the pool area. We loved Casa Ladera - it is a shared "compound" of the casita, the main house (with 2 apartments) and a neighboring home. It is about 1/2 block from the beach. Renee, the manager, was fantastic. She picked us up at the airport and ensured we felt at home. We were traveling with a two year old and she outfitted us with a infant tub and lots of sand/pool toys. The pool is lovely and we enjoued the shared setting -- we met interesting folks from all over the country.

Vieques is rustic and unique. The beaches, the water and its residents are sparkling. The island itself is a little tattered around the edges. We highly recommend the Bio Bay (we used Abe's), paddleboarding (with Vieques Paddleboarding) and just relaxing. We used a baby sitter suggested by Renee while we were there (Sandra) and she was terrific with our little one. H

We stayed at Casa Ladera for one night - our stay elsewhere was over, but we liked Vieques so much we decided to stay an extra day and managed to find availability in one of their units. The place was beautiful - nice pool, very close to the beach, well-maintained unit and grounds, and a short drive to Isabel II.

But mainly I want to call attention to the fantastic customer service: We rented a car that was available along with our unit and ended up in a fender bender when a bus driven by a local biobay tour operator backed into us. While the accident was minor, the hassle factor (combined with the complete denial of responsibility by the operator who was at fault, Fun Brothers) was not - yet through it all, the property manager has been extremely supportive and helpful (e.g., driving us to make sure we still caught our ferry the next day, helping me file the police report, talking to the manager at Fun Brothers, who it turns out was just as abusive to her was he was to me).

The bottom line is that she was extremely helpful, both before and during a small crisis, and she could easily have tried instead to take advantage of us. Hopefully, other renters won't have our issue, but in any case it's good to know that the people you're dealing with are trustworthy.

We stayed at casa Ladera during the week of March 9 through 17th. We were a party of four adults staying in the upstairs unit. The unit was spacious, we were never in each others way. The beds were so comfortable, I slept better than I had in weeks. The way the unit is described on the website is true to the fact. The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes and appliances. Casa Ladera is close to everything. There is a market nearby that probably sells everything we are used to here in the states. The owners pay attention to detail and the property is kept up very well. Renee is very nice, she picked us up at the airport and even waited while we resolved a problem with our bags. We rented a vehicle from her and had a problem with the ac which she quickly took care of. The best part of the rental is the the porch which faces the ocean. We sat there every morning with our coffee and in the evening to relax after a day exploring the island. The view is incredible. The ocean is just a few steps away. The grounds are kept up very well and are very beautiful, I enjoyed the gardenias and other tropical flowers. From the porch we also enjoyed looking at the horses that roam free on the island and even got to see some iguanas. The pool is huge and has an out door powder room, grill and fan. We loved staying at Casa Ladera, it's a beautiful place to stay hassle free. We are looking forward to going back to Vieques soon and will stay at Casa Ladera again.

Room Tip: Higher floor has the best views

We stayed five days. Two couples and a toddler the pool was great. Love the outdoor seating options for eating. The kitchen had what we needed to cook most of our meals there.
Loved the outdoor shower for getting sand off and for our son. Washer and dryer meant we always had clean/dry towels and could do out clothes while we were there!
The property manager Renee met us at the ferry and was available for any questions we had.
The property is in walking distance to the beach, grocery store and farmers market.

Only downside was the beds. After five days I was ready for mine at home. No one else in our group minded though. And for the price it all worked out!

The place was clean, beautiful and greatly located with services nearby. They are providing Jeeps you can rent from them directly. No need to care about renting a car.

The place is safe and having a big swimming pool next to our door was really apreciated.

Communication with owners and staff was smooth and quick, you will feel comfortable at doing business with them.

Vieques is a wonderful Island and Casa Ladera is a great place to stay. We have enjoyed the Casita next to the main house as it is well equipped and comfortable for all (4) of us. Highly recommended.

Francois
