“A fun, rustic experience”
Reviewed March 17, 2012

We had fun staying at this resort. Don't expect a "5star, all inclusive tropical beach experience" here. We felt more immersed in the local culture, fully enjoying the dogs, cats, crowing roosters, and horses. Loved the horseback riding experience, especially along the beach. We explored different gorgeous beaches each day (a car is a must), and snorkeled at a few places. Penny's breakfasts were a treat. There were excellent dinner choices close by. Penny and Topher were more than helpful with any requests or questions we had. Talk to Topher about bioluminescence bay tours!!

We were in Vieques for 3 days for a wedding and our stay at the Seagate could not have been better. Penny and Michael, the owners went out of their way to accommodate our needs and were the most wonderful hosts.

Room Tip: The roosters are up early...take some ear plugs!

We stayed at the Seagate Hotel the end of January for 3 wonderful days! Tofer picked us up at the airport and Penny dropped us off at the ferry at 6 am on our last morning. Isabela Segunda is the perfect area to stay as it's so close to all the amenities like groceries (so we could prepare meals in our kitchenette in our room and store food in our full size fridge) and Penny had a lovely breakfast for us each morning. It is close to the ferry and bike rental shop where we rented bikes to get around the island. To say Tofer was a wealth of information on where to go was an understatement!!! Ask him about the bio bay when you go! You won't regret it!!! Because of Tofer our trip was more memorable than had we not had the great fortune of meeting him!

The hammock on our balcony was bliss for those moments of relaxation. Penny is a lovely, caring woman who will bend over backwards to make your stay one to remember! Kindness and hospitable are major understatements. We'll be back!!!

While staying in Rincon, Puerto Rico for 10 days, my husband and I decided to take a mini getaway to Vieques Island. Although our stay was for only one night, we will definetely go back if ever on this island of paridise again! I am an Assistant General Manager at a popluar hotel chain back in the states, so I live and breath the meaning on hospitality. This is what you will find at SeaGate Hotel! Penny has created the most quaint and relaxing property with private rooms/cabins that over look gorgeous mountain/ocean views. I loved waking up & looking our our side window at the stables where the horses stay! Topher was a walking definition of hospitality, and led us to the most beautiful private beaches, made sure we secured a rental Jeep, and even took us out to a bay on the atlantic coast for a few pictures! Penny's homemade breakfast made us feel like we were at a private bed & breakfast - we ate amount beautiful flowers & palms trees :) We hope to be return guests sooner than later!

Room Tip: We had the pleasure of staying in the 2 bedroom cottage - if you can stay in this room I recommend t...

If you are traveling to Vieques Island, I highly recommend staying at Sea Gate. Even if you're focusing more on Esperanza than Isabella Segundo, the surroundings are more peaceful, the staff is great, and overall I think this place is worth the 5 minute drive.

We stayed here for the two nights we were on the island, and let me tell you, the property manager Topher is just amazing, so warm and friendly. He called us the day before our booking to make sure we were set on transportation from the airport (we'd rented a car, so it was OK). When we arrived, he was so welcoming, and gave us a quick guide of the layout of the island and all the sights we could see.

The grounds are really cute, adorned with all sorts of tropical plants, and there were friendly kittens and pups wandering around begging for attention. The room was just great, with cute decor and a fridge to keep our drinks cool. Breakfast had a good variety of items, including fruit, which was good to start off healthy since there aren't a lot of health food options on the island.

When we left for the Puerto Rico, I absent-mindedly left my *passport* in my room. Oh no! Before I'd even realized it was gone, Topher called to let me know he found it, and offered to fly it out on the next plane. Fortunately, I didn't need it immediately, so we just had it mailed to my house in the states. I got it yesterday, which is a pretty quick turnaround for US mail from PR. THANK YOU so *MUCH*, Topher, you are awesome!! :-)

We had beautiful panoramic views from the captains quarters, and our room was very spacious and clean. We had the sliding glass doors open the whole time, and literally didn't see one bug in our room. The grounds were somewhat in disarray, but it was like a tropical oasis. If you enjoy the B&B experience this is a good choice. The value was good as well. There were some basic things such as a hair dryer and coffee lacking in the room, and Penny's service wasn't the best. Tofer, however was fantastic. I emailed him and on short notice he made arrangements for a great biobay tour with VAC, secured us a Jeep, and picked us up at the ferry. However, DO NOT TAKE THE FERRY. It is slow and unreliable. You have to get there very early to even get tickets. It's only $60 round trip to fly from Fijardo. The money you save on the ferry ticket, you pay for in wasted time and aggravation. Overall SeaGate was a good value.

We were only able to spend one night at this little jem due to travel constraints, but if we get back to Vieques we wouls spend much more time there. It is up a hill and a little difficult walking there, but not bad. They will pick you up at the airport or ferry terminal if you call. The rooms are delightfully decorated and have a wonderfdul veranda right outside with table and chairs. The rooms have a small fridge and they serve a nice continental breakfast. The staff will go way out of their way to hel in any way possible. We got in a day early with no reservation (it was the next night) and they called and found us a room and took us there!
Penny and her husband are fantastic and so is everyone else. A great place to kick back and relax, and easy to get to asny other place on the island with the Publicos. There was an island wide power failure the night we were there (which made the biobay adventure fantastic!), and when we returned they had a small generator lighting the entrance and office and had a candle burning in our room for us.
