We spent 3 wonderful weeks at Casa La Lanchita, in our favourite suite, the Cabana. Everything about this hotel is great - the view, the accommodations, the location, the other guests, the amenities - and of course, Doug and Marikay who always go the extra mile to ensure that our holiday is delightful and stress-free. And what a nice break from an awful winter! Thanks so much for another amazing holiday!

Room Tip: Every room is great, as they all look out onto the Atlantic Ocean.

Timely and friendly pickup/drop off at Ferry courtesy of Doug. Easy check in/out. Helpful, informative and knowledgeable advice on where to eat, stores, shops, places to see and beaches to visit. Lots of beach items available for use(complimentary), such as snorkel gear, beach towels, beach chairs, coolers, boogie boards, kids beach toys, a library of books, puzzles & games to borrow. Complimentary laundry room. Use of a Jeep(assigned to you alone), for an extra daily fee that is cheaper than a rental agency.

The hotel itself is right on the Ocean facing north with Puerto Rico & Culebra visible in the distance. Easy access to the beach below with snorkeling and even surfing right outside your window. If you are lucky you might see whales, marlins and turtles from the balcony.

There are two pools that are kept fairly warm. Ideal for kids and lit for night time swimming. Plenty of pool chairs for relaxing at the hotel.

Each balcony has sitting areas with tables for eating out on the balcony too or just reading or relaxing and gazing out at the ocean.

There were four of us, 2 teen boys, so we had a master bed for parents. One boy slept on the couch and the other on a portable folding bed.

The kitchen is plenty big with a full size fridge, microwave, oven and stove top with electric burners. Fully supplied with dishes and utensils, as well as various cooking pots/pans, etc. We cooked breakfast and stocked up on some groceries at the local market. This was a good way to cut some costs and save time. We were able to pack lunches and use the cooler, so we could spend an entire day at the beach. Eating out every day can be expensive on Vieques.

The water pressure and temps were very good too. Rooms are fairly dated in terms of decor and furnishings, but it's not the Hilton Resort type place. Linens are all a bit worn, but seem relatively clean. The only complaint is that the tile floor in our room was a tad dirty/gritty. Your feet get very dirty walking around for just a few minutes in the room. This was not due to us bringing in dirt. It seems like the room service did not do a good job sweeping/vacuuming/mopping the floors prior to our arrival. Still, not a big deal and it might have been an exception too. Fans in every room and plenty of breeze from the ocean. One television with Dish Network if you need that link to the states.

Wifi connection was very spotty and unreliable even though we had a router in our room. No trouble with cell phone or texting, Just not good for internet access, checking email or sending pics/files.

One of their cats is very friendly and decided to spend a couple hours hanging with our boys each day. We enjoyed her company.

We would stay here again w/out hesitation if we make it back to Vieques and it's still being run by Doug and Marikay.

Room Tip: Upper balcony rooms are best for viewing the ocean.

Our family of 4 with two children ages 6 and 10 had a comfortable stay and appreciated the tips on the beaches to visit and use of boogie boards!. We like independent travel I(no frills accommodation) so this type of accommodation suited us well. It felt very private (although our first night it sounded as if there was a small party on the floor above us as the kids were settling down to sleep, but this was resolved quickly and not a problem)... the sound of the waves right outside our window was a wonderful treat. We had everything we needed in our room and at la lanchita. Easy drive to the beaches on the southern side of the island, which was our main attraction and reason for visiting Vieques. We miss Pincho, their darling dog too! We will be back.

This was our 2nd stay ........and we weren't disappointed! Great location overlooking the pool and the ocean....5 min. walk to town. Well equipped small kitchen for breakfast and lunches, many great restaurants within walking distance. Quiet, relaxing, convenient!

Doug and Marikay are great hosts..........can answer every question and provide practical advice on everything to make yours a happy stay. .... make you feel part of an extended family. Doug's rental vehicles provide a practical method of getting around the island!

All this and 60-80 degfrees warmer than home!

This small hotel has an unusual combination: The location is superb, overlooking the Atlantic, and the only noises are from the waves. The rooms are great: Room 10 is a well-equipped, comfortable, clean two-room suite with full kitchen and a deck overlooking the pool and the ocean. And the hosts -- Doug and Marikay -- were clearly meant to be innkeepers. They are friendly, talkative, full of advice and generous with their ample stock of everything from snorkels and fins to beach chairs and towels. They are delightful. Take them up on their offer to rent you a car: You need one if you stay at this spot on Viecques' northern coast. It's not far from the ferry, but about 20-25 minutes from the beach town of Esperanza on the south coast. There's a reason there seem to be so many repeat guests. The wifi in the room was a bit iffy, but there's a strong signal at a table by the pool. There is a small beach in front of the hotels, but several outstanding beaches elsewhere on the island. We had a great five-day holiday break from the snow and cold there.

First I want to say we have travelled all over and have never written a review..good, bad, or indifferent. I have never even felt the compulsion nor heeded the "nudging." However, for Doug and Marikay I am want to spend a little time attempting, but not likely adequately, describing our time at Casa La Lanchita. You know, other reviews will describe the stuff that you can do there, but I would rather talk about our feelings; maybe seeing through our heart and mind's eyes you may get a glimpse of our trip. This was our 20th wedding anniversary trip. We try to take a weekend trip just for us at some point each year without our 3 boys. They really couldn't wrap their minds around not getting to go on this trip. They weren't there when we got married; therefore, not going this time. All that to say that, typically after just a couple of days we start thinking: "I wish the boys were here" or "the boys would certainly like to do this" or "I am ready to get home to the boys" or whatever. Not this time! After 5 days were still not ready to get back to family life. We could have stayed. I really hope you "get" what a big deal that was when we realized we were so content at this place. Morning coffee on the roof in the sun reading our books. The days spent doing...whatever. Doug and Marikay are exceptional people and incredible hosts. We learned so much about these two talking with other locals. They are truly tapped into the preservation and conservation of this wonderful island and it's people.
