I'm assuming, if people are interested in Vieques, they have done research and are choosing it for it's laid back, no frills, no resorts, unspoiled beaches atmosphere, so I won't spend alot of time talking about that. My husband and I stayed here for a couple of nights after visiting family on the mainland, and we had such a fantastic experience, we are already planning on returning very soon. And I've already sent some friends there as well on my recommendations, and they also loved staying here. The owner and manager are so friendly and helpful, but not intrusive at all. You can use the well equipped kitchen (free coffee) if you want, or you can go out for your meals. Super cute patio to lounge in, they have all of your beach gear needs (free chairs and coolers, and a minimal fee for snorkel gear). All I can say is you really and truly feel at home, and Owen will make sure that all your needs are met. He'll even be straight with you on recommending activities; for example, he told us that the Bio Bay tour isn't really worth it unless it's slightly overcast (in order to better see the light from the organisms, it should be as black as possible). I loved that he sat down with us and went over the map, to make sure we knew where all of the beaches were, since many of them are hard to find and/or access. And make sure you do the Bio Bay tour, if the conditions are right - it is mind blowing! Spic and span rooms, comfortable beds. Loved having coffee in the morning and chit chatting on the front porch with the owner and other guests. The only thing that could possibly be negative to some people is that this place is in the main town, not on the beach, where the locals live and where the ferry docks, those are in the town of Esperanza which is on the opposite side of the island. But, it's only a 10 minute drive to Esperanza, and we would always end up there for a drink and food after the beaches, anyways. And yes, you really need to rent a car here, trust me - or you'll miss out on most of the spectacular beaches.
