I'm assuming, if people are interested in Vieques, they have done research and are choosing it for it's laid back, no frills, no resorts, unspoiled beaches atmosphere, so I won't spend alot of time talking about that. My husband and I stayed here for a couple of nights after visiting family on the mainland, and we had such a fantastic experience, we are already planning on returning very soon. And I've already sent some friends there as well on my recommendations, and they also loved staying here. The owner and manager are so friendly and helpful, but not intrusive at all. You can use the well equipped kitchen (free coffee) if you want, or you can go out for your meals. Super cute patio to lounge in, they have all of your beach gear needs (free chairs and coolers, and a minimal fee for snorkel gear). All I can say is you really and truly feel at home, and Owen will make sure that all your needs are met. He'll even be straight with you on recommending activities; for example, he told us that the Bio Bay tour isn't really worth it unless it's slightly overcast (in order to better see the light from the organisms, it should be as black as possible). I loved that he sat down with us and went over the map, to make sure we knew where all of the beaches were, since many of them are hard to find and/or access. And make sure you do the Bio Bay tour, if the conditions are right - it is mind blowing! Spic and span rooms, comfortable beds. Loved having coffee in the morning and chit chatting on the front porch with the owner and other guests. The only thing that could possibly be negative to some people is that this place is in the main town, not on the beach, where the locals live and where the ferry docks, those are in the town of Esperanza which is on the opposite side of the island. But, it's only a 10 minute drive to Esperanza, and we would always end up there for a drink and food after the beaches, anyways. And yes, you really need to rent a car here, trust me - or you'll miss out on most of the spectacular beaches.

Casa de Amistad is within walking distance from the ferry pier in Isabel Segunda, and it's quite easy to drive to any of the beaches from this guest house (ample parking in rear of property). The hosts were warm, welcoming, and provided valuable information about the island and its acitivities. The accommodations are clean, comfortable, and tasteful. The rooms are painted in soft, warm colors, with wicker furnishings and tiled floors. There are several communal areas, including an upstairs lounge, rooftop deck, downstairs TV room, breakfast room, kitchen, and courtyard. Our favorite part was the courtyard - designed as a tropical container garden accented with bistro tables and a crystal clear plunge pool. Also on the main level are an internet bar and gift shop. Special touches included complimentary use of beach chairs, towels, and coolers. Snorkel equipment can be rented for $10 per day. We would stay here again in an instant.

We absolutely LOVED our stay at Casa de Amistad! My fiance and I were traveling on a budget, and this funky little guest house was a great fit for us. We stayed in room 5, which had a separate bathroom down the hallway, so it was a bit cheaper than the others, but it had a lock on the door so no one else could use it. The atmosphere at the Casa was so much fun, laid back, and eclectic... it was great to just be there and hang out. The staff was so friendly and helpful! We didn't have a rental car during our stay, and Owen, the manager, "hooked us up" with the best taxi drivers on the island so that we could still get to the best beaches. There was a common kitchen downstairs with a stove, microwave, and refrigerator with all the cooking items you need so you could cook some of your own meals and save some money instead of eating out every meal. There was a grocery store 3 blocks away, a bar called Al's Mar Azul and a restaurant called Coconuts about 2 blocks from the Casa that we really liked to go to. We are thinking about going back for the honeymoon!

Just returned an hour ago! from Puerto Rico...the last three nights spent at this amazing guesthouse in Vieques. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, but not intrusive at all. If you want quiet places to read or daydream there are little sitting, reading areas to be alone. it is nice not to have to eat out for every meal...Owen and David have a well stocked kitchen, we made pasta one night and had toast and cereal in the morning...they provide freshly brewed coffee. As other reviewers pointed out, they also provide beach towels, coolers and chairs, there is a small fee for snorkel gear.
I LOVED our three days at this charming, comfortable place..it is very special.

Casa de Amistad is a great place to stay. We stayed in room 1 and were serenaded nightly by the Coqui's outside our window. The location is great with a short walk to everything you might need. I can't say enough good things about our hosts David and Owen. If you like to meet interesting people and make new friends then Vieques is the place to go and Casa de Amistad is the place to stay. We had many relaxing times sipping coffee in the morning with Mac, David and Owen, or running into them in a local bar in the evening.
