“Wish I was still there...”
Reviewed February 1, 2014

I am so glad we ended up staying at Casa de Amistad. We stayed 4 nights in the newest part, room 8. Dan and Owen were a great help with tours & suggestions. Dan even drove is too pick up our Jeep!.... A MUST when staying on the island. I would suggest using the kitchen to make breakfast...or try Roy's Coffee shop, but with a grocery store so close, you'll save a lot of dough by making yourself some food in the well supplied communal kitchen. I wish I was sitting by the pool, having breakfast, deciding which beach to go to today.

Room Tip: Rooms 8 & 9 are the newest.

This was our fourth stay with Owen and Dan, and we got to stay in one the new rooms. Wow, they really did it right. The decor is minimilast but very warm, inviting and peaceful. There is also a new patio if you'd like to have a little more privacy with your morning coffee. Having the coffee maker, fridge, and microwave in the room is nice too. They provide coffee as well, which is great if you don't want to go the 30 feet to the shared kitchen! So, if you can, book room 8 or 9 for an especially wonderful stay!

Spent five nights at this wonderful establishment. Owen is a great host with tons of useful information and lives just behind the property. I stayed in room 7 and even though it was small, it was very comfortable. It's by no means a very big deal, but only rooms 8 & 9 ( the newest rooms ) have TV's. There is a TV room in the main part of the inn. I can't tell you how nice it is to have a full kitchen in the main part of the inn to use as you need. Just buy your groceries a short walk away and you can save a ton of money eating breakfast and lunch at the guesthouse. You can eat either in dining area or out by the pool. The guest house is located within walking distance to everything in Isabel. You'll need a car to get around the rest of the island and to the remote beaches. Owen also recently installed wi-fi and it works great in room 7. And for just a couple of dollars if not free Owen keeps beach towels, beach chairs and coolers on hand. Everything operates on the honor system and you just leave a the small amount of money in a little black box.

Casa de Amstad was one of our very favorite places on Vieques. Owen does a masterful job of making luxury work in Isobel -- we really had a fine time. He is incredibly knowledgeable, even checked on our rental car prior to our arrival (in case you have not heard, you simply must rent several weeks or even months out!). We stayed in the "new rooms" which are truly splendid -- it is affordable, right in the middle of things in Isobel, and very, very safe (all of Vieques is, but to hear some people tell it, this might be important to you). Hundreds of cable channels, WiFi, huge, new beds, sparkling showers, and plenty of room. They had beach towels, beach chairs, boogie boards, coolers and ice-packs, an honor bar (we went at Xmas time, and Owen had stocked up on a local rum concoction that my wife just loved). Owen knows everyone worth knowing, and is such a jovial fellow -- he joined us for coffee (after making it -- PR coffee is amazing) and talked over the plans of the day. They had clearly weighed the trade-off between packing people in, and making guests comfortable, when they built the place, and we were VERY comfortable. Gay friendly, we met some truly great folks there (we're straight) -- awesome! We felt VERY much at home! If you are coming to Viweques to party in Esperanza, you still can, but the Casa de Amistad gives you that island of peace across the island that even hard partiers would need, I think. We just loved the peace and quiet, and gentle breezes, etc.

Room Tip: We stayed in the new rooms, but I do not think there is a lesser room in the place. The "old r...

What more can be said...we had an amazing time during our 5 days and 4 nights in Vieques. Dan was an incredible host who was a pleasure to meet and spend time with each day. Our accommodations were fabulous and included air conditioning, beautifully decorated rooms, a private bath, spacious shared quarters (a patio area by the gorgeous pool, kitchen, television room) and small personal touches that made you feel like you were home. Thanks to Dan's recommendations we enjoyed a spectacular Bio Bay tour which included swimming and adventured to numerous beaches that we had to ourselves. Not to mention we enjoyed happy hour just a short walk away at Mar Azul Bar and Mamasongas who just happens to have amazing key lime pie. Casa de Amistad was the perfect place for us to enjoy our 2nd wedding anniversary and we hope to be back soon!

Owen has done a great job with this place. Down to the details it is a great place to stay. Small pool in a lovely courtyard, very sufficient kitchen, and we had one of the newer rooms with a king bed which was great. highly recommend.
