“A real pleasure!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 4, 2012

Casa De Amistad had come highly recommended to us by 2 separate people. We arrived around 10 AM and our room was ready. David was very friendly and helpful during check in.

We had booked last minute and the only room left was one where the bathroom was down the hall from the room. The bathroom was private (not shared with any other guests). We had our own key to access it and it was immaculately clean. There is no window in the bathroom, but there was a small fan to make sure that air circulated.

Our guest room was a decent size and spartan yet tastefully decorated. AC/ceiling fan worked fine. We are early risers and have no noise complaints. Communal kitchen was very clean and well equipped.

Best part about the place was the mini pool -- perfect for a quick dip or lounging. Even though the guesthouse was full -- we rarely saw other guests and never felt like we were competing for any shared space.

David and Owen are very normal AND lovely people -- friendly, helpful, laid back and great hosts. They even offered to drop us at the airport on the last day and wouldn't take money for the extra beach towel we used.

We took advantage of the free wireless, beach chairs, coolers and ice packs -- no complaints what-so-ever about quality. Now that we know the lay of the land, we'd probably rent a house for our next visit, but wouldn't hesitate recommending this guesthouse to others. One tip would be to pay more and get a room with ensuite bathroom. Just make sure you book early.

Right down the street is a very delicious cafe called Mamasonga. Definitely check it out!

Stayed here for two nights in March 2012. We were supposed to stay for three, but there was a thunderstorm the first night and planes were not flying out to Vieques. Owen/David were understanding on the phone when I called the day I was supposed to check in, and suggested a couple places to stay in San Juan where we were "stranded" for the night. We were not charged for the missed night, and we were able to leave our bags and get a meal while our room was cleaned up for early check-in the following day.

The house is lovely, and the backyard with small pool is a really relaxing spot for morning coffee and reading. We stayed in Room 7, which is on the side of the house with a separate gated entrance. Not sure how the upstairs rooms are, but I would say it might be a little better to stay on the 2nd Floor rather than having to exit the house (they are very good about having locks at all gates/entrances) to access to the kitchen, pool area, etc. Also - a small detail that may be helpful to others - there is no door to the bathroom. The bathroom area is set off by a beaded curtain and the rest of the bathroom (toilet, shower) is set back. For couples who don't live together or are THAT comfortable with each other (ie first romantic vacation together) it might be a turnoff. The private porch is fine, but the shared backyard patio is much nicer. The roosters and dogs make noise at all hours of the night, but you get used to it!

The neighborhood is not by the main beach area in Esperanza (a $12-$15 cab ride usually), but there is a good number of restaurants to check out that are walking distance from Casa de Amistad. It's very close to the ferry dock and our cab charged us only $6 from the airport.

Overall I would recommend Casa de Amistad for its warm and friendly staff, but if you want to be minutes from the beach, stay in the Esperanza neighborhood.

We only spent a night here at Casa de Amistad but we were really happy about what they offered. Upon arrival at the island by ferry, the hotel is only within walking distance from the ferry terminal. It's conveniently located near a few good restaurants and a supermarket/car rental place. The hotel owners gave us good advice and recommendations on where to eat and visit. Our room was clean and came with AC, the bathroom came with hot water, our stay was really comfortable.

My boyfriend and I are both locals, living in San Juan, stayed in Casa de Amistad back in January. I have to admit, every aspect of our stay (from our room, to the entire island of Vieques) was wonderful! Owen, the owner, is awesome! He has a terrific charisma and was very helpful! My only complaint is that my stay was too short, so I'm looking forward to going back and fully experience Vieques hands on. Definitely a place worth staying!

Room Tip: Ask for room number 4, it was lovely! It has it's own balcony.

As others have mentioned, Owen rocks. He's the perfect host and will offer suggestions based on his years on Vieques. He's like an old friend instantly.

We loved staying at Casa de Amistad. The guest house is convenient to many restaurants in Isabelle Segunda, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the hosts are extremely friendly and helpful. We stay here whenever we come to Vieques.

Room Tip: Some rooms one have an outside deck

We went to Casa de Amistad July 2008 for 2 nights. The place was basic but clean, the owner was very friendly, the pool clean. They gave great advice for restaurants to eat at.
