Head's up - La Gran Parada does NOT take debit or credit cards, so bring cash!
That being said, blink and you’ll miss it! A local’s place on 200/201, and recommended to us from someone who lives on Vieques, we ate here twice, enjoying their outstanding shrimp mofongo, chicken mofongo, and mamposteao, which is best described as a side dish of cheesy rice and beans. We sampled mofongo at various places in Vieques during our week-long stay, and La Gran Parada's was the clear winner. Delicious.
The décor is very, very simple, though the service varies. Our first night we were served by Carlos, who was very warm and hospitable, making for an enjoyable and pleasant meal. Our second time, we were served by a female waitress who never identified herself, and gave us the minimum amount of attention required. Honestly, this is the only reason La Gran Parada rates four instead of five stars – and it pains me to do so, because the food is just that good.
Generally speaking, it is not the kind of restaurant experience you’ll find in town or in Esperanza, but if you are looking for a quality (inexpensive) meal, and you know what to expect in terms of ambiance and service, it’s worth the visit.
