Yes, it looks like a dive. But this is the real thing. Puerto Rican food without the hype. Near the airport. The staff are tremendous and the food is authentic Puerto Rican "comfort food"

If you are looking for authentic local Puerto Rican food, look no further. If you can deal with a less than stellar atmosphere in a very, very casual setting, the food is worth it. Very close to the W hotel, and a good value! Food was delicious, as evidenced by the numerous locals who ate with us.

We were staying at the W and were completely disappointed with the food. The resort is great but the food is expensive and sucks. La Gran Parrada on the other hand is inexpensive and the food is so delicious! Two of employees at the W told us to go there and I am so happy we did. No sugarcoating, the place looks like a dump but don't let it scare you. The waitress helped us pick the best dishes and we got the seafood and chicken arepas, conch salad, shrimp mofongo and cilantro chicken. Every single plate was awesome. It was hands down the best food we had in PR.

We spent our honeymoon in Vieques and this restaurant was highly recommended by pretty much everyone we interacted with. We came from a night paddle in the bio-lumnescent bay, and looked VERY casual but decided to stop in anyway. The waitress welcomed us in, showed us to a table, made suggestions for orders, and was extremely attentive for the entire meal. We ordered the arepas with chicken as an appetizer, the mamposteao, and the stuffed mofongo with friend pork chunks. The waitress let us know that was more than enough for two of us, which was good, because we would not have been able to manage anything more. The mamposteao is a cheesy rice and beans dish with a wonderful flavor, and the mofongo, made with yucca, is lighter than plaintain based mofongo that we get in Northern Manhattan. We washed it down with Medalla beer. We didn't get to try to cocktails or the desserts, but would go back if we had more time on the island.

This place is perfect if you're looking for amazing mofongo, no nonsense, fresh food, and some delicious hot sauce. Two of us got the chicken mofongo, my daughter got conch and my husband ordered the pork. We all loved our meals. This place was no nonsense, you come for good food. It's simple and very casual - we went straight from the beach and were fine there. It was one of the best meals we had on Vieques and the only warning is that you will leave there as stuffed as the mofongo you just ate.
